DANIEL WILKERSON AND SCAG FORD FUNNY CAR TEAM FOCUSED ON LAS VEGAS FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Daniel Wilkerson and the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car team can’t deny the progress they’ve made just three races into the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series season. They head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals determined to keep it going.

Wilkerson and the SCAG team, led by Daniel’s father, Tim, are coming of a quarterfinal finish at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where they qualified in the top half of the field for the second consecutive time. Sitting 10th in the points standings, Wilkerson is looking for his first Funny Car victory in his first season racing the full NHRA Mission Foods Series schedule.

“I’m excited to get to Vegas. Coming off a weekend in Phoenix where we learned a lot and made progress, I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the SCAG Summit Ford Mustang,” Wilkerson said. “Four-wide is a little different. I have pretty limited experience racing in the four-wide format, but I think, as long as nothing crazy happens, I should be fine. We get four qualifying runs, which will help our progress continue so we can turn on a few more win lights on Sunday.” Continue reading

DAVE RICHARDS AND VERSATRAN/BLUEBIRD PREPARED FOR FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Dave Richards and the Versatran / BlueBird Funny Car team enter this weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the third of 20 events on tour and first of two in the four-wide format, with some renewed optimism.

Competing the full NHRA Mission Foods Series schedule for the first time, Richards and his team stayed and tested at Firebird Motorsports Park following the NHRA Arizona Nationals, the second event at which the young team qualified 17th, just shy of making the 16-car field for race day.

“This whole Versatran / BlueBird team is looking forward to Vegas. We had some disappointment in Phoenix with not qualifying, but we stayed and tested, and we’re feeling really good,” Richards said. “We made two runs and learned a lot. The car is getting happy. We’re figuring it out.” Continue reading

AFTER 2 WINS IN PHOENIX, JOHN FORCE RACING LOOKS TO KEEP MOMENTUM GOING IN VEGAS

John Force won rescheduled Winternationals final at Phoenix, while Austin Prock earned his first-ever Funny Car win

LAS VEGAS – John Force Racing comes into this weekend’s NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway looking to keep its momentum going after capturing two wins this past weekend in Phoenix.

After weather postponed the final round of the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., two weeks ago, team owner and 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force won the rescheduled and relocated concluding round at Firebird Motorsports Park as part of the NHRA Arizona Nationals weekend. It was the 156th national event win for Force, the winningest driver in NHRA history.

Also celebrating in the Winner’s Circle at Phoenix was Austin Prock, who won in just his third NHRA start in a Funny Car.

“Clinching the victory in Pomona (Phoenix) was thrilling,” said Force, driver of the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car. “It’s still early in the season, but this win sets a positive tone we’re all proud of. Yet, we’re mindful of the fierce competition out there; we’ve got our work cut out for us.”

JUSTIN ASHLEY AND SCAG TOYOTA TEAM RIDING MOMENTUM INTO LAS VEGAS FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team come into this weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Trip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway looking to extend their final round streak to three.

Ashley and the SCAG Toyota team have reached back-to-back final rounds with a victory at the NHRA Winternationals, contested during Saturday qualifying at Firebird Motorsports Park, and a runner-up finish Sunday at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. Their performance has them sitting second in the points standings after three of 20 events in the NHRA Mission Foods Series schedule.

“We have momentum heading into this weekend. With the Winternationals win and a runner-up finish for the Arizona Nationals, we feel good about the things we’ve done.” Ashley said. “Mike Green, Tommy DeLago and the team have been working incredibly hard to put this SCAG Power Equipment Toyota team in a position to win races. But ultimately, once we get to Las Vegas, all bets are off. The other races are in the past and our focus will only be on the runs at hand.” Continue reading

HULL EXCITED FOR FIRST FOUR-WIDE EXPERIENCE IN FUNNY CAR

LONG BEACH, CA – Even though he is already four races into his inaugural Funny Car season, driver Buddy Hull is still experiencing firsts. This weekend, he will be piloting his Jim Dunn Racing KGC nitro Funny Car for the first time at a four-wide race, at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 12-14.

“Four-wide races are one of the coolest parts of NHRA drag racing. They hold a special place in my heart not just because they are electrifying for both drivers and fans, but because I made my professional debut at the Charlotte Four-Wide Nationals back in 2021, when I was racing my Vertex Roofers and General Contractors Top Fuel dragster,” said Hull. “I’m a sentimental guy, so the four-wide races literally track for me how long I’ve been competing at the professional level. And this year is even more special, because it’s my first year driving for Big Jim, and my first in a Funny Car. It all feels very meant to be. I’m only in year four, but then I look at guys like Ron Capps who just celebrated year 30 in Phoenix. That’s the kind of racing career I am striving to have.”

DOUBLE TROUBLE: FLEXJET FACTORY STOCK SHOWDOWN RACES FOUR-WIDE FOR FIRST TIME IN VEGAS AND CONCLUDES RAIN DELAYED WINTERNATIONALS

LAS VEGAS, NV – The NHRA Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals will be packed with Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown action this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 12-14. The fan favorite class featuring Chevrolet COPO Camaros, Ford Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks will battle it out across four lanes for the first time in Las Vegas and just the third time in class history.

In 2022 and 2023 the factory stock hot rods raced at famed zMAX Dragway outside of Charlotte, North Carolina with Bill Skillman and Lenny Lottig taking home the NHRA Wally trophies for their winning efforts, respectively. This weekend a tough group of Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford competitors will be lining four-wide to see who will race to the winner’s circle on Sunday in the third race of the NHRA Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series.

Before the four-wide champion is crowned there is still some unfinished business to handle as points leader Mark Pawuk, 2023 series runner-up Stephen Bell and David Davies will be racing to finish the rain delayed NHRA Winternationals. The trio of drivers’ race day was cut short in March by a rain and hailstorm that forced the abrupt conclusion of the historic west coast race and moved the final two rounds to The Strip. Pawuk and Davies will square off in one semifinal and Stephen Bell will have a bye run into the final. The final two rounds of the Winternationals will be run on Saturday in conjunction with the final two rounds of Las Vegas qualifying. Continue reading

GREG ANDERSON LOOKS TO CARRY PHOENIX MOMENTUM INTO LAS VEGAS AT 4-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Pro Stock veteran Greg Anderson is no stranger to the NHRA winner’s circle as proven by his 104 career wins. This weekend at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas, he’ll look to add another to his impressive resume at a track that means a great deal to him.

Anderson, the winningest driver in the Pro Stock field, and the rest of the stars of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will again take to the track this weekend at the 24th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Anderson is coming into Las Vegas hot after his win in Phoenix, his first of the year in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro.

“I’m excited to get to Vegas because obviously I love the Black family,” said Anderson. “Ken and Judy Black have been my team owners for 20 plus years. We now have new ownership but they’re still the greatest supporters you could ever imagine. They text, they call at races. They certain are not out of the sport. They’re at home but they’re still watching. They’ll be in Vegas next weekend and I would love nothing better than to show off in front of them so I can’t wait to get there.”

STRONG START IN FUNNY CAR HAS AUSTIN PROCK FEELING GOOD AHEAD OF VEGAS’ NHRA 4-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Less than a week after his first NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Funny Car win, Austin Prock has a chance to keep rolling at this weekend’s NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The 2019 NHRA Rookie of the Year moved to the Funny Car ranks for the first time this season for John Force Racing, joining a successful team that also includes his father, crew chief Jimmy Prock, and his brother, Thomas.

He stepped in for Robert Hight, who stepped out of the car prior to the season to deal with a medical situation, and Prock has proven to be a natural piloting the 11,000-horsepower Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Prock has picked up two No. 1 qualifiers in three races and grabbed his first NHRA Funny Car win on Sunday in Phoenix, becoming just the 19th driver in NHRA history to win in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. Now, he’ll aim to get his first Vegas four-wide victory just days after a monumental weekend. Continue reading

NEW CAR HAS DOUG KALITTA HUNGRY FOR FOUR-WIDE EFFORT TO STEP UP TITLE DEFENSE

YPSILANTI, MI – Doug Kalitta’s title defense is underway, but it hasn’t gone as well as hoped…yet. The 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Season resumes April 12-14, 2024 at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Kalitta has two Las Vegas wins in seven final-round appearances, and while the Mac Tools team hasn’t won a race yet this season, recent changes have the team liking its chances this weekend.

“We switched to a different car before Phoenix, and it was pretty happy actually,” Kalitta said. “Alan (crew chief Alan Johnson) and the guys like what they’re seeing with this new chassis so we’re all looking forward to seeing what we can do in Las Vegas. What I know for sure is how hard Mac (assistant crew chief Mac Savage) and all my guys are working to get this Mac Tools car running the way we all want it to run. We’re hungry and want to get a race win under our belts as soon as we can.”

Kalitta has three quarterfinal finishes in three races so far this season and enters the fourth race sixth in points. That’s a solid start for some, but the defending Top Fuel champion is ready to move deeper into elimination rounds going forward, and this weekend’s four-wide race in Las Vegas would be the perfect time to do it. SHAWN LANGDON, KALITTA AIR CAREERS TEAM ENTER LAS VEGAS WITH TWO WINS IN THREE RACES

YPSILANTI, MI – As the old song said, “two outa three aint bad.” Shawn Langdon, Crew Chief Brian Husen and the Kalitta Air Careers team are on a tear entering the season’s fourth race with two wins in the first three. After a flawless season debut in Florida, Langdon’s Kalitta Air Careers Toyota team will roll into Las Vegas as the points leader hoping to keep rolling. The 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Season resumes April 12-14, 2024 at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After last week’s win in the Arizona desert, Langdon and first-time crew chief Brian Husen enter the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas on quite a tear. The team won 10 of the available 12 rounds of racing to start the season, and although the competition is incredibly intense in Top Fuel, the current points-leading team shows no signs of slowing down. After struggling a bit over the last few years, running consistently well is a welcome change.

“It feels great; I’m just really proud of everybody with all the hard work that went on in the off season,” Langdon said. “It was hard to struggle for the last couple of years. You have to bite your tongue a little bit, keep your head down and keep working, and eventually, the tide is gonna roll the other way. You don’t know how long that’s gonna take, but it’s paying dividends right now. Internally, we feel very confident with the team we put together, and we feel very confident in ourselves. Now we have to keep working hard and hope the results show it.”
