About
June 2009 With a rich 37 year history in drag racing as a competitor, world champion, track operator, race promoter, journalist and freelance photo-journalist, Mark Walter created this website to cover the world of sportsman drag racing. Drag Story will report on race events through photo journalism, with a smattering of writing thrown in for good measure. As the site grows, we will add video as part of how we cover events. Mark is joined at Drag Story by his wife Joanne. Joanne will help extend the coverage and bring a slightly different perspective to the mix.
The idea of covering a race through video and photo journalism came out of the success Mark enjoyed with his reporting of the Ontario Street Car Association, National Street Car Association, Canadian Street Car Nationals, US Street Nationals and other drag racing events. In 4 days at the 2008 US Street Nationals, his galleries enjoyed over 45,000 views.
Drag Story’s inaugural event was the ADRL race in Martin Michigan on June 5th and 6th. With hopes of seeing 3-5000 views of their race coverage, the team was blown away when the reporting received nearly 22,000 views in 5 days.
The site is in its infancy and will grow as the coverage grows. We have a ton of passion for the sport and it’s people, we hope to bring a new dimension to how coverage is done.
