Marc Meadors and Pure Hell 2 Two-peat at SRP’s Door Car Shootout

Courtesy of Pro Slammers

Sacramento, CA – Marc Meadors with his Pure Hell 2 ’69 Camaro was up to his usual devilish tricks torturing opponents in the Pro Slammers Door Car Association’s Pro Mod class at Sacramento Raceway Park’s 2nd Annual Door Car Shootout.  The Tim Mcamis built race car swept all honors running low elapsed time (6.174); top speed of the meet (246.45); and, a win over the track record-holder Bret Williamson in the final round.

Williamson seemed to have the early edge, qualifying #1 at 6.249-234.57 with Meadors a few clicks back at 6.288-216.93.  In the run for the money, Marc left first (.070 to .091), but Bret never flinched, pressing the Danville driver for the lead.  The track had cooled dramatically from the prior round and Meadors had trouble keeping the potent Camaro stuck and had to caress the pedal several times from mid-track on. In the opposite lane, Williamson was ready to say, “See ya” when the blower belt came off, leaving the bewildered driver helpless.  He was later heard wondering when he was going to win one of “these things”.

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Despite a close first round loss to Robert Hight, Blake Alexander is still happy with the performance of his Gates/Auto Service Plus Funny Car at the Toyota NHRA Super Nationals. He ran two solid qualifying sessions and got to represent Gates Auto, a corporation who has supported him since age 16.

“It meant so much to be able to race the Gates Funny Car at Englishtown. The people at Gates have supported me through the Sportsman ranks and now into the transition to the Pro level and Fuel Funny Car. I look forward to representing them again at the next race in Bristol,” said Alexander.

Blake’s weekend started off with a decent 4.19 in qualifying, which put him in the show at 9th after the first session. The parachutes came out just after the half-track mark, slowing the car down considerably. Crew chief Paul Smith tuned it up for the next session, resulting in a 4.116 at 302 mph, beating out Blake’s previous career-best run of 4.16. But Blake believes that the first run would have been even better than 4.11.

Troy Coughlin Runner up in E-town Pro Mod

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – The plan that Troy Coughlin drew up at the beginning of the NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by ProCare Rx season for his turbocharged JEGS.com Chevy Camaro finally took shape on Sunday at the Toyota NHRA Super Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Coughlin finished runner-up to Danny Rowe in the finals, but more importantly the car and team functioned near flawlessly in the effort.

“These guys have been thrashing like mad to get the car to go straight on all four wheels,” Coughlin said. “We were able to keep it under control and manage the power today. They gave me the best car they could give me.

“This is the way I envisioned we’d start the season off, but it’s just taken a little while to get to where we’re at. I couldn’t be happier with this effort.”

Gallen Wins in Front of Packed Pittsburgh House

Courtesy of IHRA

NEW ALEXANDRIA, PA – It was a special night for Peter Gallen. Not only did Gallen get a big win over longtime IHRA legend Dale Pulde in front of a packed house at his home Pennsylvania track, but Gallen had extra motivation in the form of a little boy from the Pittsburgh area named Isaiah.

Isaiah is suffering from a terminal illness and is enrolled in a special program that is near and dear to Gallen’s heart. Called Designing 4 Hope, the charity adorns the side of Gallen’s “Poverty Stricken” ’77 Monza and is a driving force behind Gallen’s racing operations.

And with Isaiah standing on the starting line cheering him on, Gallen powered to his first victory of the year and his 16th career win in AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car in front of a capacity crowd at the second annual Pittsburgh Nitro Jam at Pittsburgh Raceway Park, a win he dedicated to Isaiah and his family in victory lane.

Coughlin Frustrated with Performance but Confident they will Prevail!

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. is ready to go back to the drawing board after failing to qualify his JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger for Pro Stock eliminations at this weekend’s 43rd annual NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

“We had a tough run here this weekend,” Coughlin said. “We’ve got the whole puzzle in front of us; we’ve just had a lot of struggles putting the pieces together the right way.”

Coughlin only made it down the track one time under power in four qualifying attempts during the weekend. His lone full-pull clocked in 6.663 seconds at 207.46 mph. The No. 16 qualifier had a best lap of 6.628 at 208.39 mph.

“We changed motors before Q4,” Coughlin said. “The other one was down on power after it took two beatings on Friday when we shook the tires both times. It showed in Q3 this morning, when we went down the track but were down about 80 horsepower, which was reflected in our elapsed time.”
