Mike Henry Back On Track

Written by Jeremy Gordon

San Francisco, CA – Mike Henry has been a tough competitor in every class that he has competed in including the Pro Slammers Door Car Association.  But, after he stepped his program up over the winter things didn’t go as planned.  He and his team struggled with the car and the new 773ci nitrous engine.

“I made 13 passes and had to keep it off the wall or pedal it on every run”, says Henry.  We saw him at Sonoma Raceway early the year and he was doing 2ft wheelies at half track.  By the 3rd race he was calling it quits after spending too much money and not making any progress.  We saw his car for sale on racing junk and we thought for sure the west coast standout was finished.

Surprisingly, we saw him back out last weekend at Sacramento Raceway’s Fox Hunt.  Not only was he back with his Camaro he also qualified #1 for the 6.90 Slammers class with a career best 6.91 at 198mph.  He then stepped it up in the semi-finals when he faced off with Ralph Willis’s blown 1953 Corvette when he clocked a perfect 6.900 at 200mph.

Marc Meadors and Pure Hell 2 Two-peat at SRP’s Door Car Shootout

Courtesy of Pro Slammers

Sacramento, CA – Marc Meadors with his Pure Hell 2 ’69 Camaro was up to his usual devilish tricks torturing opponents in the Pro Slammers Door Car Association’s Pro Mod class at Sacramento Raceway Park’s 2nd Annual Door Car Shootout.  The Tim Mcamis built race car swept all honors running low elapsed time (6.174); top speed of the meet (246.45); and, a win over the track record-holder Bret Williamson in the final round.

Williamson seemed to have the early edge, qualifying #1 at 6.249-234.57 with Meadors a few clicks back at 6.288-216.93.  In the run for the money, Marc left first (.070 to .091), but Bret never flinched, pressing the Danville driver for the lead.  The track had cooled dramatically from the prior round and Meadors had trouble keeping the potent Camaro stuck and had to caress the pedal several times from mid-track on. In the opposite lane, Williamson was ready to say, “See ya” when the blower belt came off, leaving the bewildered driver helpless.  He was later heard wondering when he was going to win one of “these things”.

MEADORS, WILLIS, AND PATTON TAKE PSDCA WINS

Courtesy of Pro Door Slammers

Sacramento, CA – The Pro Slammer Door Car Association (PSDCA) sponsored by Scrappers Racing revved up their 2012 season May 5th and 6th at Sacramento Raceway Park. Racing in conjunction with the Pacific Division’s NHRA National Open, it was the first association race for the newly formed Pro Mod Slammers.

The pro mods did not disappoint as Sean Renteria put his sultry black supercharged ’65 Valiant into the fives during Q1 Friday night with a 5.969-231.64 for the #1 position. In eliminations, it was Marc Meadors’ Camaro and Renteria’s Plymouth trading volleys for supremacy. Marc ran 242.38 only to see Sean lay down a 242.97.

Unfortunately, Renteria broke on the run and was unable to return for a highly anticipated showdown between the two drivers. Meadors and his Pure Hell 2 continued to “put it to the wood”, saving his best run for the final when he knocked out a game Monty Berney with a 6.101-248.28.
