Venables puts Hagan, Magneti Marelli team on E-Town pole; points leader Schumacher, U.S. Army lead DSR in Top Fuel

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Summer arrived early Friday but the timing was appropriate for the 44th annual NHRA Toyota Summernationals DSRat Old Bridge Township Raceway Park at Englishtown, N.J.

And one of this season’s hottest Funny Cars continues to be the Magneti Marelli Offered by Mopar/Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T driven my Matt Hagan and tuned by crew chief Dickie Venables and rookie assistant Michael Knudsen.

Hagan recorded the quickest run through Friday’s two qualifying sessions when he recorded a 4.050-second pass at 315.64 mph after the track cooled by about 20 degrees to 101 from the late afternoon session and the ambient air temperature dropped from 90 to 85.

From 60-feet to 660-feet, Mathis Takes Major Step With First Career Pro Nitrous Win

Belle Rose, LA – Robert Mathis’ weekend at No Problem Raceway started with a killer 60-foot time. It ended with his first career Pro Robert MathisNitrous win.

Mathis went from knocking on the door of the elite in the class to a bonafide championship contender at the X-DRL’s recent Bash On The Bayou. He claimed his first-ever nitrous victory in the class, running 3.868 at 194.18 mph in the finals to beat Jeff Naiser in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous. It was a welcome moment for Mathis, who has made impressive strides over the past two years in the class.

“It’s about time,” Mathis said from the winner’s circle. “It hasn’t quite hit me, to be honest.”

Mathis took a huge step in his Pro Nitrous career in Belle Rose, La. after knocking on the door for most of the 2012 season.

Mopar Looking to Repeat or Make New History at Summernationals

Englishtown, NJ – This weekend the Mopar contingency competes at the 44th annual NHRA Summernationals taking place at the Moparhistoric Old Bridge Township Raceway Park affectionately known to drag racing aficionados as “Englishtown”. It seems that each Dodge driver is either looking to either repeat past history of success at the track, extend a streak, start a new one, or replace a missed opportunity with a new memory.

The current Funny Car points leader, Johnny Gray of Don Schumacher Racing, is the defending winner of this event and is looking to continue a hot streak that saw him drive his Dodge Charger R/T to the winner’s circle in the last two NHRA National events in Atlanta and Topeka for a total of three victories so far this season that has doubled his career totals. Last year’s action at the New Jersey track also saw DSR teammate Ron Capps, won here in 2006, set a track record with a 3.96-second pass to set the quickest run in Funny Car history.

Pro X-treme Points Race Heating Up After Three Races

Kerrville, TX – It’s the X-DRL’s premier class and through one-third of the season, the talented drivers in Pro X-treme are already X-DRLdelivering a premier points race.

Through two completed events, we’ve gotten two different winners and a huge amount of contenders heading into next month’s X-treme Gateway Showdown, which takes place June 14-15 at Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis.

Only eight points separates the top four in the class after three races, and just two rounds separate the top seven.

Maggio, Meadors set to run weather-delayed WCOPMA final round at this weekend’s Super Chevy Show event

Bakersfield, CA California weather is usually very corporative during these months but at Auto Club Famoso Raceway’s Fun Ford Weekend event on May 3-5 in Bakersfield the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s eliminations ended early as high winds kicked up on Sunday after two flawless days of racing on Friday and Saturday.

Twelve racers showed for the 8-car qualified field and leading the pack when the three qualifying rounds were complete was Mike Maggio with the Maggio Motorsports 1968 Camaro with a solid 5.897. The Goodguys Racing 1969 Camaro driven by Marc Meadors landed second with a 5.900, not far behind was Sean Renteria in the Renteria Brothers Racing unique 1964 Plymouth Valliant with a 5.912 to land third. Rod Burbage was getting his new 1969 Camaro figured out and pulled out a 5.956 to qualify fourth. Scott Bailey, Jeremy Hanger, Rob Cacioppo and Scott Loomis rounded out the bottom half of the qualified field.

KEVIN RIVENBARK SCORES RUNNER?UP FINISH AT X?DRL LOUISIANA

Clinton, NC – GALOT MOTORSPORTS’ Kevin Rivenbark scored a great runner?up finish at the X?DRL race at No Problem Raceway in GALOT 2013 RivenbarkBelle Rose, LA on May 17?18, 2013.

After four rounds of qualifying, Rivenbark was ranked third overallfor the Pro Mod class with a best pass of 4.057 at 182.23 MPH in his supercharged Pontiac Firebird, while teammate Todd “King Tut” Tutterow qualified just a hair off the pace in the Pro X?Treme class with his supercharged 1967 Ford Mustang GT500.

During the first round of Pro Mod eliminations, Rivenbark easily drove past his opponent with a strong3.994 at 183.34 MPH pass to take the win. In the finals, Rivenbark went even quicker and faster but lostat the tree in a holeshot battle; despite having a lower ET than his challenger, Rivenbark’s 3.964 at 184.70 MPH run got him through the traps just two feet behind the other car.

Door Wars, Pennsylvania favorites and the ‘King of Quake’ highlight Nitro Jams return to Pittsburgh Raceway Park

PSCA’s Rocky Mountain Summer Series Kicks Off in Bandimere This Weekend

LAS VEGAS, NV After months of build up, it’s finally that time: the Pacific Street Car Association’s MagnaFuel Rocky Mountain Summer Series at the legendary Bandimere Raceway. RONNIE “THE KING” DAVIS NAMED ADRL DIRECTOR OF SPORTSMAN RACING

Lake St. Louis, MO — Officials from the American Drag Racing League announced today that Top Sportsman pioneer Ronnie “The King” Ronnie DavisDavis has been named Director of Sportsman Racing for the nation’s premier eighth mile drag racing league. Davis, who will work directly with ADRL Director of Competition Bubba Corzine, will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the ADRL’s ever-growing Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes.

“We constantly strive to improve the overall experience for all of our competitors including our sportsman racers,” said ADRL President Kenny Nowling. “We want the sportsman racers who compete in the ADRL to know that we are committed to them for the long term. Adding Ronnie to our team will enable us to grow our sportsman classes at a much quicker pace.”

Davis, who also competes in the ADRL’s Top Sportsman class, has already secured several additional contingency sponsors for the ADRL’s Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes that will be announced in the coming weeks.
