Pro Mod champ Coughlin opens E-town eliminations with win

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – So far, so good. That’s the feeling in the JEGS.com pit of reigning Pro Mod champion Troy Coughlin after one Troy Coughlin, PMround of elimination action at the 44th annual Toyota Summernationals and Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Although his team experienced a bit of a struggle in the unseasonable warm weather the last two days, Coughlin qualified his twin-turbo Corvette in the No. 10 position with a best pass of 6.105 seconds at 238.30 mph. That placed him next to No. 7 qualifier Harold Martin in Saturday evening’s first round of eliminations, a race he won.

“The first goal every weekend is to qualify, as simple as that sounds,” Coughlin said. “You can’t win if you don’t make the show and we don’t have any provisionals in drag racing, so making the field is job one.

After securing No. 5 spot on Pro Stock grid, Coughlin preps for race day

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – This weekend’s 44th annual Toyota Summernationals has certainly lived up to it’s name as scorching Jeg Coughlin Jr Englishtowntemperatures during two days of professional qualifying have reminded locals of the first few incarnations of this event when it was held in July’s dog days. It’s been brutal for the racers as well, with the NHRA tour’s most recent Pro Stock winner — Jeg Coughlin Jr. — a classic example of what happens when the temperatures rise.

“This heat has been giving us all fits,” Coughlin said. “And certainly we’ve been no exception. We’ve been quick every session, but not quite as quick in relation to the field as we have been in the last several races. I think we were fourth or fifth quickest of all four rounds, which is good, but it’s not quite as good as we’d like.”

Qualifying position, however, will ultimately have little impact on Rowe’s weekend in New Jersey as he departed the property following the second qualifying session to catch a flight home to Laguna Hills, California, so that he will be able to attend his daughter Cassidy’s graduation from JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano on Saturday morning.
