PRO STOCK VETERAN GREG ANDERSON KNOWS BACK UP AGAINST THE WALL APPROACHING NTK NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – Greg Anderson is no stranger to performing well in pressure situations. But the four-time Pro Stock world champion knows he needs something great at this weekend’s NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway to stay in contention for another NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series world title.

Anderson will be the first to admit the start to his Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship has not gone as planned in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro, as the veteran has just one round win through the first two playoff races. It’s dropped him to seventh in points, 107 behind teammate and points leader Jason Line, but good news for Anderson is he usually rises up when the pressure is on, and he’s always felt good racing in Charlotte, the home track for KB Racing.

“This race is probably the cutoff point for me and we’ve got to make it happen this weekend,” Anderson said. “We definitely got off to a bad start to open the Countdown and we got ourselves in a hole. We’ve got to make some hay and there’s a lot of pressure this weekend, but it seems like we sometimes need that extra drive or motivation to push us. Hopefully that wakes me up this weekend because we certainly can’t wait any longer.”

FUNNY CAR’S RON CAPPS LOOKING TO EMERGE FROM TIGHT GROUP OF TITLE CONTENDERS AT NTK NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – The way Ron Capps looks at it, the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship might as well be restarting this weekend during the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at the state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway. It’s a nod to just how competitive the Funny Car class has been through the first two playoff races, leaving a pile of contenders bunched up heading to Charlotte.

Capps is right in the thick of things as usual, sitting fourth in points, just 44 behind leader Robert Hight. He felt he had a car capable of winning the first two races, and though Capps fell short, it’s only given the former NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series world champ more confidence heading into he race, where he is the defending winner in his 11,000-horsepower NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

“As bunched up as it is right now, it’s almost like the Countdown just started against going into zMAX,” Capps said. “We just have to continue to do what we’ve been doing. We’re not changing much and if we can run like we have the last two races, we’ll be alright. We lost a chance at winning the first two races and I feel like we had a car that could win. We just stepped over the line a little bit, but we learned a lot and we’ll be ready this weekend.”

TOP FUEL’S DOUG KALITTA STAYING THE COURSE AS CHAMPIONSHIP TALK HEATS UP AT NTK NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – With nearly the slimmest of leads and four races remaining in the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, Doug Kalitta isn’t taking his top spot for granted. The chance for the Top Fuel veteran’s first world championship is one of the top stories of the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship, but Kalitta won’t let it interrupt his ultra-focused mindset.

He currently leads defending world champ Steve Torrence by just two points heading into this weekend’s NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway, a race that marks the halfway point of the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship. Kalitta might have the points lead and a strong track record of success in Charlotte, but he knows things can change in a hurry in a loaded Top Fuel class filled with championship contenders.

“We are not getting ahead of ourselves by any means with this points lead,” said Kalitta, who has 46 career wins. “There are too many tough cars out there and four more races. Anything can happen. We just are glad to be in control of our own destiny. If we take care of our business we will be just fine. These next couple of races starting with Charlotte will be critical for us.”

TOP FUEL STAR BRITTANY FORCE AIMS FOR ANOTHER CLUTCH PERFORMANCE AT AAA TEXAS NHRA FALLNATIONALS

ENNIS, TX – Brittany Force knows what a win at Texas Motorplex can do for championship aspirations. The Top Fuel standout performed well in the pressure moments of the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship stop at the track two years ago, using that victory to HELP claim the first world championship in her NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series career.

Right in the middle of the title mix through two of six playoff races in the 2019 season, Force will aim for her second win in Dallas at the 34th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, Oct. 17-20. She has enjoyed another banner year in her 11,000-horsepower Advance Auto Parts dragster, sitting just 48 points back of the lead heading to a crucial point in the season.

“If you look at the season, we’ve done well in cooler conditions or those prime conditions,” Force said. “But this team is always positive, even when we’ve had bad days. When you make a mistake, you use it to push harder and come back better. We’ve been in these situations before and been through the pressure, and come out on top. There’s no reason we can’t do it again.”
