PORT ALLEN, LA – No Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without an abundance of beads, decorations, music and plenty of Cajun cuisine and that is exactly what the winners of Sunday’s Nitro Jam finale enjoyed in victory lane as over a dozen different drivers hoisted a brand new Ironman trophy during an absolutely huge race weekend at the third annual Mardi Gras Nitro Jam at State Capitol Raceway in Baton Rouge.
And topping that list was the popular “Poverty Stricken” Funny Car team headed by driver Peter Gallen who swept the Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car category over the weekend and vaulted to the top of the Prostalgia championship standings in the process. Gallen pushed his car to the limit both nights of the annual Louisiana event, defeating Mike McIntire both times to perform the only sweep of the weekend.

Chandler, AZ – A new season has begun for the Rick Jackson Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car team with the Santa Clarita, Calif. group producing mid-season performance.
A solid 5.595 second elapsed time was good enough to capture the provisional pole position after the first day of qualifying during the opening NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of the 2011 season contested at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz.
The Centre Pointe Collision Center Ford Mustang team kicked off their 2011 campaign with a test session yesterday at FIR, giving crew chief Steve Boggs and driver Tony Bartone the opportunity to shake down any off season rust which may have developed since their record shattering 266.00 mile per hour blast recorded in mid-November, 2010.

PORT ALLEN, LA – Bobby Lagana didn’t cross the finish line first on Saturday, in fact he didn’t even finish first in his own lane, but he still broke through with his first ever win at State Capitol Raceway in front of a historic crowd at the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam Saturday in Baton Rouge
Lagana, who had won at every track on the Nitro Jam tour except State Capitol Raceway entering this weekend’s event, finally got the proverbial Louisiana monkey off his back Saturday to claim his fourth consecutive victory dating back to last year and his 14th career Ironman in a wild one over Bruce Litton in front of a standing room only crowd.
“To be honest it feels great to finally get a win here. We have been close so many times, but we were finally able to conquer the beast, even if it wasn’t the prettiest win,” Lagana said. “I am also thrilled to see the crowd out here tonight. Everyone, from the IHRA to the great people here at State Capitol, put on such a great show. The crowd was here early and they stayed late.”

DOHA, QATAR – A remarkable 2010-2011 season in the Arabian Drag Racing League ended in fitting fashion for Pro Nitrous driver Khalid Al-Balooshi.
The talented and colorful driver who dominated all winter at QRC capped off his year with one last incredible performance, going 3.786 at 199.70 miles per hour in the Round Eight finals against Shannon Jenkins on Friday to win the league’s “Battle For The Belts.”
Al-Balooshi’s record-breaking year ended with one more brilliant salvo, too, as the victory earned him $100,000 for the championship. Add the $50,000 he earned for winning the points title and the $20,000 he earned for ending the year with both the E.T. (3.781) and speed (199.88 mph) records, and Al-Balooshi picked up $170,000 in one weekend, making it the most lucrative win in doorslammer history.

The Team is more than anxious to kick off their 2011 drag racing season.
“We’ve worked really hard this off season” noted Ahten, “a lot of research and changes have gone into our racing’s performance structure. We’re looking to get some valuable laps this weekend that will take us with fresh data prior to heading back home for the Winternationals.
“All of the teams in attendance this weekend are hoping that the weather here at Firebird remains steady so we can get our Division 7 season opener behind us. As of now, the forecast calls for questionable weather on Saturday and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed that it will move through by Sunday”.
