Taylor Earns Dragpalooza Win in ADRL’s Return to Texas Motorplex

ENNIS, TX – Frankie “The Madman” Taylor earned one of the strangest Pro Extreme victories in American Drag Racing League history at Texas Motorplex Saturday night. In the ADRL season opener, Taylor made four uncontested passes down the track to take the win at Dragpalooza. The race was the first sporting event in the state to entertain spectators since the COVID-19 quarantine was enacted in mid-March.

Taylor’s E1 opponent, Michael Neal, fouled out by .005 seconds. In the second round, Taylor was to race Jeffrey Cummins, but Cummins was unable due to being involved in a scary crash in the round before with Randy Merick. Round 3 was potentially the match of the weekend, with Taylor facing top qualifier Wesley Jones. Unfortunately, a parts failure prevented Jones from making it to the line. Finally, in the championship round, the Texan was to face Jason Hamstra, but Hamstra’s ’69 Camaro was on the wrong end of an event-ending issue during his semi-finals win over Adam Flamholc.

“I’d rather be lucky than good,” Taylor said in the Winner’s Circle, smiling. “We got lucky in the final, we couldn’t have beat him anyway because we broker either the driveshaft or the rear end or both. We tore something up. We just had a real good weekend.

Stanley & Weiss Racing Take Short Sabbatical

By Camp Stanley

Hagerstown, MD – Dictionary.com describes a sabbatical as: “any extended period of leave to acquire new skills or training, etc.” This, to all of our faithful followers is what we have been forced to take part in.

A run of three DNQ’s has forced us to face reality! Although we finally figured out what has been causing our issues this year it all came “to little, to late”.

After evaluating our fastly deteriorating checkbook balance with my assistant financier and friend Mr. Axle Weiss and the rest of our very close knit team, we decided it would best to take one of these forced sabbaticals to pump some new lifeblood into said checkbook!

Our plan is to sit out one more race, the ADRL Speedtech U.S. Drags IV in Richmond, Virginia. I have been telling lots of people that, “instead of spending money in Richmond, I will go to the FIA round in Germany that very same weekend and make a little money!!!”

Jan-Cen Eager for Action at Team Ford Drive One Summer Drags VII

Elma, NY – It’s been three weeks since Mike Janis has made a pass down a drag strip. It’s the longest break of the season for the veteran engine builder from Lancaster, NY and as far as his team is concerned it’s been too long.

“It’s weird. We have been so busy running two cars this year that a break no matter how short seems like forever. We’ve been in GO mode all year and while this short break was well needed it’s great to be heading back to the track,” said team owner/driver, Mike Janis.

The last time Janis took a trip down a drag strip was a scheduled test session after the NHRA Norwalk event.  Alan Johnson Performance Engineering’s Alan Johnson and Terry Morrow wanted to gain further data on their new 5300 engine that Janis is running.

“We are very lucky to be working with Alan, Terry and Rick. This has been a great experience for us and I think our latest test session has us moving closer to using the full potential of the new AJPE 5300. This engine, along with the chassis from Andy McCoy has us very excited,” said Mike Janis.

New car gives new outlook for Hernandez and B1 Racing in Topeka

Courtesy of B-1 Racing

TOPEKA, KS – After the ADRL event in Houston at the end of March, Pro Extreme driver Josh Hernandez declared he was ready for some “spring cleaning.” Now, more than ten weeks later, Hernandez and his B1 Racing team has retired the long-running, championship-winning 1957 Chevy Bel Air, and have finally worked the bugs out of their new Murf McKinney-built C5 Corvette and debut their new “toy” for the Kansas National Guard Independence Drags V at Heartland Park Topeka this weekend.

Hernandez said he hasn’t been more excited to go racing in a very long time.

“It’s no secret that we’ve struggled so far this season, and for myself and everyone on this team, we’re ready to start a new chapter,” Hernandez said. “And, for us, even more, we’re not just racing for ourselves. We are representing the good people of Bahrain, and we want to bring them the kind of results that they deserve.”

The new car, built by the noted nitro Dragster and Funny Car expert Murf McKinney, has already shown great promise in testing. Sporting a Funny Car-type rear wing, Hernandez said the car has performed exceptionally so far and that the team is expecting great things this weekend.

With New Challenge, Flynn Proving To Be A Pro Extreme Crew Chief Master

O’FALLON, MO – For his first foray into the world of American Drag Racing League (ADRL) doorslammer racing, former NHRA crew chief Rob Flynn didn’t gently put his foot in to test the waters.

Instead, the talented tuner leaped right into the deep end.

Calling the shots for the two-car Pro Extreme Al-Anabi Racing team of J.R. Todd and Alex Hossler, Flynn boldly entered the biggest and fastest class in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL).

Success has followed – both in the ADRL and the Arabian Drag Racing League – and Flynn has enjoyed every step of the new journey.

“It’s been real satisfying,” said Flynn, who has been crew chief for the likes of NHRA standouts Kenny and Brandon Bernstein. “We put together a group of people we thought would get along well, but it was a pretty steep learning curve.

Red light start does little to deter Hernandez’

READING, PA – To the uninformed, Josh Hernandez’ results at last weekend’s ADRL Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove might seem disappointing: the former world champion struggled to get into the field, squeaked into the field in 12th in his last qualifying attempt after failing to get down the track in his two previous attempts, and lost first round because of a dreaded false start. Hardly something to talk about.

The entire B1 Racing team sees last weekend in a completely different and much more positive light.

The team made a late decision to change from their new Murf McKiney-built C5 Corvette back to their stalwart  ’57 Chevy Bel Air, which meant removing parts, replacing parts, and re-retrofitting parts to work on the ’57. In addition, they moved to an automatic transmission from the manual they had practically perfected.

Elma, NY – After their semi-final finish at the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston last week; Mike Janis and his Jan-Cen team stayed extra day to test their ADRL Pro Extreme Duster, built by And McCoy Race Cars, along with AJPE’s Alan Johnson and Terry Morrow.

The 5300 motor from AJPE is in what some might call refinement right now. The Jan-Cen team of Mike Janis is assisting the crew at AJPE in “On Track Data retrieval”.

“Alan, Terry, and the guys at AJPE have put a ton of work into this combination and we are lucky enough to work with them in putting her through her paces on the track,” said Mike Janis of Jan-Cen Racing Engines. “Being able to test here with my crew and the team from AJPE being present , including Alan, is beneficial to both the development of this engine and my getting into the ADRL winner’s circle,” added Janis.

O’FALLON, MO – After a productive testing session at Royal Purple Raceway on Monday, American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Pro Extreme star Frankie Taylor had a succinct message.

“We’ve been struggling the last couple months, but it’s back,” said Taylor, the 2010 ADRL Pro Extreme World Champion.
Whatever was missing during the first two months of the year was found at Royal Purple Raceway during testing for Taylor’s PX car.

He went 3.65 the day before he left for this weekend’s Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove Raceway, giving the excitable Taylor some good vibes heading into the ADRL’s third race of the season.

“Something like that makes us feel better and a lot more confident,” Taylor said.

Martin Leads Pro Extreme after Day 1 of Safety-Kleen Spring Drags II

Courtesy of ADRL

JUPITER, FL – Joey Martin is even quicker than he realized.  The Pro Extreme driver predicted his crowd favorite Lowmad would run between a 3.648 and a 3.659 in the staging lanes leading up to his third qualifying pass during Friday’s American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Safety-Kleen Spring Drags II at Palm Beach International Raceway.

But Martin went even quicker, going an incredible 3.642 at 205.35 miles per hour to stay in the top qualifying spot after one exciting day of action.

“I guess the track is a little better than I anticipated,” Martin joked.

“It just feels good to roll up in here and run as good as we do.”

Martin stole the show in Pro Extreme under the PBIR lights on Friday, but several others helped make it a memorable qualifying night in the ADRL’s first visit to Florida.
