Elma, NY – Pro Mod and Pro Extreme driver Mike Janis has always tried to stay at the top of his craft through innovation. A prime example would be the latest induction system the team tried at the NHRA U.S. Nationals this past week.  Another is the unique engine combination which they are running this ADRL season.

The engine they are running is from Alan Johnson Performance Engineering.

It is a big bore-short stoke combination running 531 cubic inches. The five three hundred bore space combination has the capabilities of being pushed to 700 inches.

The Jan-Cen team has been working alongside Terry Morrow of AJPE putting the new power plant through its paces this season and it too will have a new look when the team hits Rockingham.

CAYUGA, ON – When the competitors in the Pro Modified Racing Association take to the track this weekend at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park,  not only will the 2011 champion be crowned, three event winners will also be declared.

The final elimination in the fourth round of the six-race PMRA season was postponed from the August 5-7 race at Grand Bend, and although qualifying was completed at the recent “Thunder by the Beach” race at Grand Bend, elimination rounds were postponed in this fifth race due to rain.

So this September 9-11 final appearance for 2011 will see event winners in both round four and round five of the season, along with a complete qualifying/elimination event at Cayuga. PMRA officials will finish the fifth race before completing the fourth race final.

O’FALLON, MO – Support continues to build for the Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman class in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL).

With Summit Racing Equipment already named as the official sponsor for the ADRL’s newest class, the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced on Tuesday that contingency postings for the class have already reached an impressive level.

In addition to the contingency program from Summit Racing Equipment, contingency sponsors for the class include Hoosier Tires, Jerry Bickel Race Cars and Tim McAmis Performance Parts, which also sponsors the low qualifier bonus for Summit Racing Top Sportsman.

It doesn’t stop there, either. New contingency sponsors starting with the upcoming Dragstock VIII at Rockingham Dragway are Ross Racing Pistons, Jerry Haas Race Cars, Rock Racing Batteries, Davis Golf Cart Sales and STT Safety Equipment, which has agreed to a double contingency posting.

Courtesy of PMRA, Quick 32 and PBSS

CAYUGA, ON – The 2011 season will be completed for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series September 9-11 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

This sixth and final round will determine the winners in each series, and with a very tight points race in each series, this final race of the season will establish the 2011 champions.

“The points in all three of our series are very close right now,” noted Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for all series. “Those who have a chance of winning the title will have to be on their game plan, and will be running their strongest tune-ups in an effort to win the championship.”

Road warrior Dorn wins IHRA Nitro Harley championship

NORWALK, OH – Nobody piled up the miles this season more than Stave Dorn. Based in the great northwestern city of Milwaukie, Ore., Dorn set out on the road on January 15 in the dead of winter and his bike didn’t return home until the late stages of summer in late August. That is seven months on the road and thousands of miles logged all with one goal in mind – win a Nitro Jam championship.

So when Dorn finally made it to U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in mid-August for the final stop on the tour and held that championship Ironman in his hand for the first time, the Oregon native will admit that there was simply no greater feeling in the world.

Steve Dorn compiled five wins to collect his first Nitro Jam Nitro Harley title

And that is truly something coming from a man that spends his weekends barreling down a racetrack at over 220 mph on only two wheels, sometimes one.

Busy ADRL Weekend Coming for Davis at ‘The Rock’

Wrtten By Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — Top Sportsman racer Ronnie Davis is planning for a major presence this weekend (Sep. 9-10) during the ADRL’s Dragstock VIII at historic Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina.

“We’re going to have two Davis Golf Cart Sales ’63 Corvettes racing in the Top Sportsman class,” the defending NHRA Division 2 Top Sportsman champion confirmed. “I’ll be driving my black Tommy Mauney Pro Mod car with its awesome Roush Yates power and I’m happy to say my good friend and a great Top Sportsman driver, Jeff Pittman, will be in my second Mauney-built car.”

At the most recent ADRL race a month ago at Virginia Motorsports Park, Davis qualified in first place and made it as far as the semi-finals.

“Hopefully, both cars will go deep in eliminations at Rockingham, but this new ADRL Top Sportsman class is tough and there’s no guarantee we’ll even both qualify,” Davis said. “I expect we’ll see the quickest and fastest field yet with the ADRL, so it’s going to be a battle for sure.”

Samantha Coughlin beats Stinnett, races to Indy semis in JEGS.com Super Comp dragster

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In her first race as a member of the renowned drag racing Coughlin family, newlywed Samantha Coughlin survived five cutthroat rounds of Super Comp racing before red-lighting against Britt Cummings in the semifinals of drag racing’s longest running and most prestigious race — the 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

“Running on Monday at Indy is a lot fun,” said Coughlin, who married five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. on Aug. 6. “It doesn’t really matter what happens after you get to Monday because just the fact that you made it this far is a huge accomplishment.”

Coughlin got lots of tuning help from her husband, a four-time U.S. Nationals champion, both at the track and later over the phone as previous commitments had him to leaving town before her racing activities were concluded. She also got an assist from Jeg’s nephew Troy Coughlin Jr., a fellow Super Comp racer and defending champion of the race. Samantha also had support and help from her dad, mom and brother Jason.

Drag racing at Grand Bend’s Teamsters “Thunder by the Beach” postponed

Courtesy of PMRA, Quick 32 and PBSS

GRAND BEND, ON – Racing in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series was postponed over the Labor Day weekend due to inclement weather.

The racing, part of the Teamsters “Thunder by the Beach” weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex, could not continue after qualifying due to the constant rain.

The event will be completed during the sixth and final race of the series at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park September 9-11.

“It’s unfortunate we could not get this show in,” noted Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operation for all three drag race series. “Grand Bend officials and track workers tried all they could to keep the track, but the constant rain forced the postponement.”

While the qualifying sessions were completed at Grand Bend, only one elimination round in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS was completed. Eliminations for this postponed race will be held during the qualifying sessions for the upcoming Cayuga event, along with the twice-postponed final rounds of all three series from the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals held at Grand Bend August 5-7. There will be a test and tune session Friday, September 9, while racing will begin Saturday September 10.

Indianapolis, IN – Tony Bartone and Rick Jackson Racing’s quest for the 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil World Championship took a turn for the worse, after a first round loss caused by the failure of an on-board device designed to provide safety to these 260 mile per hour race cars during the 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals contested in Indianapolis, Ind.  The first round loss, coupled with the success of defending World Champion Frank Manzo leaves the Centre Pointe Collision sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car team in second place in the National Point battle with only four races left to claim.

The Santa Clarita, Calif. based team did their job in qualifying, recording low elapsed time in half the qualifying sessions and finally landing in number two position with a great 5.574 elapsed time. This set up a first round match up against Kris Hool, who captured his first National Event victory two weeks ago at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn.
