Nitro Jam’s biggest stars hit the track at San Antonio Raceway April 5-6

SAN ANTONIO, TX – When the International Hot Rod Association’s Nitro Jam series made its return to San Antonio Raceway in 2011 Nitro Harleythe event was deemed an overwhelming success.

The largest crowd in San Antonio Raceway history was on hand for the return of the IHRA’s unique brand of motorsports entertainment as fans in and around the Alamo City embraced the thrills of the world’s fastest machines. Then, in 2012, the event grew even bigger with another capacity crowd on hand for the largest U.S.-based Nitro Jam of the year.

Now, after two incredibly successful and entertaining seasons, the third annual San Antonio Nitro Jam presented by CarSafe and Good Vibrations Motorsports returns to San Antonio Raceway for what is easily the biggest Nitro Jam of the entire year. The event will feature four nitro classes, including the return of the Kings of the Sport in Top Fuel Dragster, plus nearly half a dozen jets, wheelstanders, fireworks and much more all jammed into one weekend April 5-6 at San Antonio Raceway.

COUGHLIN NAMED FAN-VOTE WINNER IN K&N HORSEPOWER CHALLENGE FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

LAS VEGAS, NV – NHRA Pro Stock fans have spoken, and their choice for the No. 8 starting spot in the K&N Horsepower Challenge for Jeg Coughlin Jrhe second year in a row is Jeg Coughlin Jr., driver of the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger.

Coughlin will go for his fourth victory in the lucrative bonus event for qualified Pro Stock teams starting with a first-round meeting with event top seed Allen Johnson, driver of the Team Mopar Dodge Avenger. The 29th annual K&N Horsepower Challenge will be conducted during the running of the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals on Saturday, April 6, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event will be televised by ESPN2HD.

Coughlin won the fan vote by a wide margin, receiving roughly one-third of the total votes cast by NHRA fans since voting began in February. Coughlin has scored victories in the K&N Horsepower Challenge in 2009, 2000 and 1999.

“It’s an honor to win the final spot for the K&N Horsepower Challenge,” Coughlin said. “A big thank you to all of our fans and friends that propelled us to this position. We look forward to answering the effort with a big win in Vegas.”

Paolo Giust to debut 1963 Corvette Pro Modified in rookie year

OSGOODE, ON – Paolo Giust said he can’t wait to get behind the wheel of his new race car for the upcoming Pro Modified Racing Paolo GiustAssociation season.

I have always wanted to go Pro Modified racing, he said. I love blower cars that offer a lot more power.

Giust has drag raced for several years, including his Top Dragster in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition, but has longed to get into a speedy Pro Modified. He will make his debut in the class this year with his 1963 Corvette Pro Modified.

Built on an LJ Chassis, the Corvette features a supercharged Brad Anderson (BAE) 526-cubic inch supercharged Hemi from the shops Ajax Engines with a Bruno’s Automotive Products, Inc. Lenco transmission behind it. A Resolution Racing Services fuel system is also part of the package.

Pro Slammers Season Opener

Famosa, CA – The 2013 Pro Slammers Door Car Association season opener held last weekend at the AAA Auto Club Famoso was full of Tony Jurado 2013 winexcitement and fun.  During qualifying the Pro Mod Slammers were trying to make their mark in the class and put a damper on the rest of the field.   Scot Oksas from Santa Clarita Ca., stopped the clocks at 258.91mph in 6.033 seconds to earn the #1 spot.

With that pass Scott set a new class mph record with his 2010 twin turbo Mustang.  He was followed by Randy Walker in his ‘74 nitrous assisted El Camino after he went 6.23 at 222mph, John Scialpi’s blown ‘57 Chevy was # 3 when he ran a 6.26 @ 222mph, John Durden rolled in #4 with his Daryl Jensen owned ’58 Corvette featuring a blown MBR 526ci Hemi at 6.40, Mike Doushgounian from San Martin, Ca. put his blown MBR Hemi, ’67 Nova into the #5 spot with a 6.56 @ 208 and Lee Smith from Salem, Or. ran a 6.62 at 213 to land himself in the #6 spot with his ‘67 Mustang.

Szupka’s double highlights JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals finals

BELLE ROSE, LA – Steve Szupka of Willow Grove, Pa., became the 15th driver to claim a double victory at an NHRA national event Jegs Cajun SPORTSnationalswhen he drove to the Comp and Stock Eliminator titles at this weekend’s 10th annual JEGS NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals at No Problem Raceway Park.

In Comp, Szupka drove his G/EA roadster to a win against the dragster of Jim Kimbrough. He returned a short time later to collect the Stock Eliminator title when he beat former JEGS SPORTSnationals champion Austin Williams.

Former world champion Anthony Bertozzi, a winner at last weekend’s Amalie NHRA Gatornationals, claimed a second-straight victory in Super Stock. Bertozzi, of Ashland, Va., stopped Gilbert Johnson’s ’96 Oldsmobile in the final round. Bertozzi also won the Top Dragster title at the 2012 JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals.

Hough, Rupert blast to victory at Arizona Nitro Jam

TUCSON, AZ – Last year was a bit of an oddball season for IHRA rookie Kyle Hough.

Kyle HoughHough was good alright, visiting seven finals and winning the 2012 Nitro Jam Fuel Altered championship all in his first season behind the wheel. But, despite his championship producing season, Hough didn’t collect one victory. Not one.

That all changed Saturday night.

With consistency being key to Hough’s championship during his rookie campaign last season, Saturday Hough put it all on the line and let the numbers do the talking as the Las Vegas, Nevada native blasted to his first career Nitro Jam win behind the wheel of the famed “Nanook” machine at the Arizona Nitro Jam presented by CarSafe and Good Vibrations Motorsports at Southwestern International Raceway.
