Larry Morgan, FireAde Racing hope to cream competition in Norwalk

NORWALK, OH – FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan has close ties to Summit Motorsports Park, which hosts Larry Morgan - Bristol, qualifyingthe Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals this weekend. For starters, Morgan is a native Ohioan and still maintains his Larry Morgan Racing team in the Buckeye State.

But his ties to the racetrack go a little deeper. His grandmother, Ethel Morgan, was close friends with the matriarch of the Velvet Ice Cream Co., the makers of the famous ice cream that is loved by fans and competitors alike in Norwalk.

“My grandmother was best friends with the Dagers, who owned Velvet Ice Cream,” Morgan said. “Josephine Dager was the mother of the family who owned the business. I was raised on Velvet Ice Cream, and I still eat it. That’s the best thing about Norwalk.”

FireAde pro Larry Morgan breaks out of mini-slump with round-win in Bristol

BRISTOL, TN – FireAde driver Larry Morgan didn’t make many fans happy at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Larry Morgan - Round 1 - Gatorson Sunday at Bristol Dragway, but he snapped out of a mini-slump with a first-round victory over Allen Johnson.

Morgan won on a holeshot over local favorite Johnson before losing on a holeshot to Gray Motorsports teammate Shane Gray in the second round.

But the win over Johnson, who lives about an hour away from Bristol Dragway, was an important one for Morgan. Johnson had gotten the better of Morgan in the first round of the last two races, but Morgan ripped off a .006-second reaction time to pull off the victory.

“I got out of that first-round crap, thank God,” Morgan said. “That was good to beat a guy who’s been beating up on me for two races.”

FireAde pro Larry Morgan hopes to continue 2015 success in Bristol

BRISTOL, TN – The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season is only 10 races old, but it has already been Larry Morgan - Fireadefantastic for FireAde driver Larry Morgan. As the Pro Stock class heads to Bristol Dragway for this weekend’s NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, Morgan has shown dramatic improvement over the last few years.

FireAde pro Larry Morgan fired up after first-round defeat in Epping

EPPING, NH – NHRA Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan was ready, his FireAde Chevrolet was ready, his Larry Morgan Larry MorganRacing team was ready, and his Gray Motorsports engine was ready. They were all ready to win during the first round of the NHRA New England Nationals on Sunday, but New England Dragway wasn’t ready.

Racing in a left lane that was clearly the slower of the two Sunday, Morgan and his FireAde Chevrolet got a little squirrely downtrack and dropped a close race to Allen Johnson.

And he was far from happy. Morgan and Johnson, as the No. 9 and No. 8 qualifiers, respectively, were the first Pro Stock drivers down the track in round one. As the higher-qualified driver, Johnson picked the preferred right lane and made a pass of 6.567 seconds at 213.30 mph that was nearly identical to his qualifying pass, but Morgan slowed by nearly three-hundredths with a 6.595-second pass at 213.00 mph.

FireAde Pro Stock racer Larry Morgan excited to recreate his latest victory

EPPING, NH – It’s only been 10 weeks since Pro Stock veteran Larry Morgan claimed victory at the 4-Wide Nationals Larry Morgan - Eppingin Charlotte, but the driver of the eye-catching FireAde Camaro says it seems like an eternity.

“I’ve gone longer stretches before without a win and it was easier to live with than not winning in these last five races we’ve had since Charlotte,” Morgan said. “The reason being that this car should be winning a lot. It’s that good. The car is great, our sponsor is the best one out there and the horsepower we’re getting from Gray Motorsports is on par with anyone in the pits.

“We wanted to win in the past; we expect to win nowadays. That’s the difference.”

FireAde pro Larry Morgan looks to add Epping to his win list

EPPING, NH – FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan has won at a lot of racetracks over his long drag racing career, larry Morgan - Kansas, courtesy of NHRAbut never at New England Dragway. He’d love to change that at the NHRA New England Nationals in what would be his 601st NHRA race.

“I can’t wait to go to Epping,” Morgan said. “I haven’t had a car that could run fast there, but I have one now. I’ve never won there, but I’d love to, of course. I’ve won at the last three racetracks we’ve been to, but never at Epping, so I’m going to try to make that happen.”

In NHRA’s first two appearances at New England Dragway the last two seasons, Morgan struggled in his Ford, but with technical support and horsepower from Gray Motorsports and a switch to Chevrolet, Morgan is a threat each week. He’s seventh in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock points standings, with one victory, two semifinal appearances, and seven top-half qualifying efforts in his first year with sponsorship from FireAde.

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan’s first-round loss in the Toyota NHRA Larry Morgan - EnglishtownSummernationals on Sunday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park was so bitter than even his dentist recommended a sugary treat.

“My dentist, Jim Daniels, is from up here, and he came over to say goodbye,” Morgan said. “The people at the E.T. shack gave me a bag of caramels, and (Daniels) looked at me and said, ‘Have a caramel. That’ll make you feel better. Your dentist encourages it.’ ”

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Not that long ago, Larry Morgan probably wasn’t looking forward to the 600th race of his Larry Morgan - Charlotte winNHRA career, which will occur this weekend at the Toyota NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

That has all changed, however, thanks to Ron Thames of FireAde and Johnny Gray of Gray Motorsports. After several lean years driving a Ford, Morgan switched to Chevrolet, secured sponsorship from FireAde, and acquired engines and technical support from Gray Motorsports.

The changes have made quite a difference, as Morgan snapped a long losing streak earlier this year in Charlotte and is a threat to win every weekend in his FireAde Camaro.
