O’FALLON, MO – A record-setting day for Matt Smith and his Pro Extreme team on Thursday ended with a win.
Now he’s hoping for an even bigger – and much more lucrative – victory on Friday at Qatar Racing Club (QRC).
With the Arabian Drag Racing League’s “Battle For The Belts” taking place on Friday, the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) sister league held a Chicago-style shootout on Thursday, offering $5,000 to the winners in Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous, and $2,500 to winners in Extreme 10.5 and Pro Extreme Motorcycle.
It also served as a prelude for Friday’s championship race, which will award an unprecedented $100,000 to winners in PX and PN.
Thursday was memorable, too, as Smith again grabbed everyone’s attention, going a record 3.558 at 212 miles per hour during his third run, topping Alex Hossler in the PX shootout finals.

DOHA, QATAR – It’s not a stretch to call Friday’s Arabian Drag Racing League’s “Battle For The Belts” the most lucrative doorslammer race in drag racing history.
With the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) sister league awarding $100,000 to the winner in both Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous, and $50,000 to winners in Extreme 10.5 and Pro Extreme Motorcycle, there will be a great deal on the line during Friday’s Round Eight eliminations at Qatar Racing Club (QRC).
“It is going to be big,” said Pro Extreme driver Frankie Taylor, who won the 2010 ADRL World Championship. “I hope we can do well.”
Like the ADRL, the Arabian series uses the same innovative eight-spot elimination tournament to determine a world champion in each class. The points leader earns a bye into the semifinals, while the No. 7 and No. 8 finishers in points will race on Friday to earn a spot into the field.

DOHA, Qatar (February 16, 2011) – Their names might be on their cars, but both Pro Extreme driver Josh Hernandez and Pro Nitrous driver Khalid Mohammed know that in order to be successful this week in the final race of the
Arabian Drag Racing League’s season – the “Battle of the Belts” – they are going to need every person on the B1 Racing team focused on winning two championships.
After starting the season at Qatar Racing Club in Doha with wins in their respective classes, the two have endured the highs and lows of drag racing en route to a berth in the top eight with the right to compete for the Championship Belt.
After the first seven races, Mr. Mohammed finished in third position, while Hernandez ended No. 5.
As members of B1 Racing, both drivers have hall-of-fame supporting casts that others only dream of. For Hernandez, it’s the duo of Oddy and Critchley.

DOHA, QATAR – Heading into the eighth and final race of the 2010-2011 Arabian Drag Racing League season, Khalid Al-Balooshi made another resounding statement on Friday to finish off a record-breaking Round Seven.
After watching his E.T. record in Pro Nitrous go momentarily to Shannon Jenkins, Al-Balooshi reached yet another stratosphere, going a breathtaking 3.781 at 199.76 miles per hour to beat Burton Auxier in the finals, re-set both ends of the world record and win his fourth race of the season.
“The air just got real good and we just decided to start laying on it and see how fast we could go,” tuner Brandon Switzer said. “The conditions were good and we came out swinging.
“I just can’t say enough about (Al-Balooshi’s) driving. He’s doing an awesome job and his driving today was spectacular.”

DOHA, QATAR – It was a pair of side-by-side runs that stole the show during Round Seven qualifying of the Arabian Drag Racing League at Qatar Racing Club (QRC).
With one coming in Pro Extreme between Matt Smith and Ali Aryan, and another in Pro Nitrous between Shannon Jenkins and Khalid Mohammed, a series of remarkable times were posted in Qatar on Thursday with this being the final race remaining before the championship-deciding event.
Smith went an incredible 3.593 at 211 miles per hour in Pro Extreme to take the top qualifying spot, while Aryan nearly kept up with a 3.62 at 207 mph to go to second in a fascinating side-by-side duel.
In Pro Nitrous, Jenkins continued his strong performance, backing up a Round Six victory with a career-best 3.803 at more than 197 mph to jump to No. 1. In the lane next to him, Mohammed went a personal-best as well with a 3.813 that puts him in third.

DOHA, QATAR – Both Shannon Jenkins and Alex Hossler had their share of early-season troubles this winter in the Arabian Drag Racing League.
The latest example of how distant a memory that has now become took place on Saturday at the Qatar Racing Club (QRC) as both of the standouts won in their respective classes during Round Six in Qatar.
With only one race remaining before the 2010-2011 championship-deciding round on February 17-18, Hossler appears to be peaking in Pro Extreme. For the second straight race, he met Von Smith and again topped the talented driver, going 3.647 at 209 miles per hour for his second straight win.
“To taste victory after some of the misery we went through, it’s great,” Hossler said. “It makes it that much sweeter when things come together and we’re able to reap some benefits. The guys just work so hard.”

Elma, NY – Things have been moving at a fast pace as of late for the Elma, NY based Mike Janis Racing Team. Now they’ll get a bit faster with the help of VP Racing Fuels.
Mike Janis and his Mike Janis Racing teams have agreed to run VP race Fuels in both team cars this season. Team owner/driver Mike Janis is an engine builder by trade and understands the benefits of quality fuel. “We’ve tested other fuels on our Dyno at Jan-Cen Motorsports and have seen that overall, VP fuels burn cleaner and cooler and offer significant performance gains. It’s a no brainer as to what I want in my race cars,” said Janis.
VP’s Eastern Regional Manager, Jim Kelly spearheaded the effort of bringing Janis into the fold at VP. “Mike Janis has been huge in drag racing in North American for as long as I can remember. We appreciate the fact that he’s chosen to run VP products again in 2011. I always knew he was a smart man,” said a happy Kelly.
