QATAR RACING CLUB TERMINATES FUNDING FOR ALL AL-ANABI RACING NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS

BROWNSBURG, IN – The Qatar Racing Club has terminated funding for all motorsports activities in North America. al-Anabi - Rise of the MachinesThis decision includes the two-car Al-Anabi Racing Team operated by Alan Johnson Racing, the team announced today. The decision was made in the final days of 2014, and team members were notified this morning.

“We are obviously surprised and disappointed about this completely unexpected turn of events,” Alan Johnson Racing team owner Alan Johnson said. “Our plans for the 2015 NHRA season were nearing completion starting with pre-season testing next week in (West Palm Beach) Florida and the first race of the 2015 NHRA season a month from today in (Pomona) California. Many things are uncertain, and our situation is obviously still evolving. We are currently exploring our options, and we hope to have more news in the near future.”

Al-Anabi Teams Finish the Season 4th and 8th in Top Fuel

Shawn Langdon – Al- Anabi Racing Top Fuel Dragster (silver)

al-anabi-logoQualifying:   Shawn Langdon was the No. 11 qualifier at the Auto Club NHRA Finals.  During the first round of qualifying Saturday afternoon, Langdon recorded a 3.768-second pass at 323.50 mph.

Eliminations: Langdon defeated Spencer Massey before losing to Morgan Lucas in the second round of eliminations.

Unofficial Point Standings: Langdon finished the season in fourth place in the final NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel point standings.

Al-Anabi Racing Ready for the Last Race of 2014

al-anabi-logoReigning NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel world champion Shawn Langdon enters the 50th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals, the last of six races that comprise the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in fourth place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Point standings. He trails third-place J.R. Todd by 22 points and leads fifth-place Doug Kalitta by one point. The second through sixth-place positions in the point standings are separated by 37 points.

Team Al-Anabi Vegas Report

Shawn Langdon – Al- Anabi Racing Top Fuel Dragster (silver)

al-anabi-logoQualifying:   Shawn Langdon was the No. 10 qualifier at the Toyota NHRA Nationals.  During the second round of qualifying, Langdon reached the finish line in 3.787 seconds at 301.81 mph.

Eliminations: Langdon defeated Steve Torrence before losing to Spencer Massey in the second round of eliminations. Prior to Langdon’s first-round win, points leader Tony Schumacher and second-place Doug Kalitta both lost their first-round races, and when Langdon defeated third-place Torrence, he had a chance to move to second place in points and within 74 of the points lead if he had won the Toyota NHRA Nationals.  Massey’s win over Langdon made that scenario impossible.

Team Al-Anabi Heads to Vegas after 3 week Break

al-anabi-logoReigning NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel world champion Shawn Langdon enters the 14th annual Toyota NHRA Nationals, the fifth of six races that comprise the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in fourth place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Point standings. He trails third-place Steve Torrence by five points and leads fifth-place Antron Brown by 22 points. He is 148 points out of first place and 14 points out of second place with two races remaining in the season.

 

Langdon prior to Las Vegas:

“I’m feeling good about the race in Las Vegas this weekend; it’s always nice to head out to Las Vegas. It’s a fun town and a fun race. It’s always neat at the end of the year because of the hype that comes with racing in the Countdown. We’re excited to get back out there especially coming off the last race where we lost in the first round. We need to get back out there and have a strong finish to the season.

With Hopes of a Repeat Championship fading, Team Al-Anabi Heads to Vegas

al-Anabi - Rise of the MachinesQualifying:     Shawn Langdon was the No. 7 qualifier at the NHRA Nationals. In the Friday evening qualifying session, Langdon reached the finish line in 3.773 seconds at 325.77 mph.

Eliminations: Langdon lost to Richie Crampton in the first round of eliminations.

Unofficial Point Standings: Langdon dropped two spots to fourth place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel point standings.   He trails third-place Steve Torrence by five points and leads fifth-place Antron Brown by 22 points. He is now 148 points out of first place with two races remaining in the season.

Team Al-Anabi Heads to Reading

The Al-Anabi Team has won three Reading races in the last five years. Shawn Langdon won last year, and the team won at Reading in 2009 and al-anabi-logo’10 with driver Larry Dixon. In addition, the team advanced to the 2011 Reading final round with driver Del Worsham. Last year, alBalooshi was the No. 13 qualifier and lost to Brendon Bernstein in the first round.

Langdon prior to Reading:

“We are looking forward to getting back to Reading this weekend. We won there last year, and looking at the weather forecast, it’s looking like the conditions could be really fast. The weather looks good. It looks like the air will be great, and if that happens, I see some low 3.70-second runs happening this weekend. If that happens, it will be an exciting time for drivers and crew chiefs, and especially the fans, because we can really throw down and have some good racing. We could even see some records set at Maple Grove Raceway this weekend.

Al-Anabi St Louis Report

Shawn Langdon – Al- Anabi Racing Top Fuel Dragster (silver)

al-anabi-logoQualifying:   Shawn Langdon was the No. 5 qualifier at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals.  During the qualifying sessions Friday night and late Saturday afternoon, Langdon needed just 3.780 seconds to reach the finish line.  Langdon has qualified in the top-five positions in 14 of the season’s 21 races.

Eliminations: Langdon advanced to his sixth final round of the season.  He defeated Pat Dakin, J.R. Todd and Bob Vandergriff before losing to Antron Brown in the finals.

Al-Anabi heads to Dallas with 2 races to complete

al-anabi-logoReigning NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel world champion Shawn Langdon enters the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals, the second of six races that comprise the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in third place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Point standings – the same position in which he started the Countdown last week in Charlotte. Langdon lost to his teammate, Khalid alBalooshi, in the first round of Charlotte eliminations, but since the race was suspended and will be completed this weekend, the point standings are unchanged.

Al-Anabi Ready to Start the Hunt for another Championship

al-anabi-logoReigning NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel world champion Shawn Langdon enters the Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals, the first of six races that comprise the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in third place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Point standings. After the points reset prior to the Countdown, he trails second-place Antron Brown by 10 points and leads fourth-place Tony Schumacher by 10 points.

 The Al-Anabi Racing Team has three wins at zMAX Dragway. The team won the fall race in 2010 with driver Larry Dixon, the Four-Wide Nationals in 2011 with driver Del Worsham and in 2012 with Langdon when he won his first-career Top Fuel race in the fall. One year ago at this race, Langdon was the No. 3 qualifier, but Bob Vandergriff upset him in the first round of eliminations.
