Al-Thani Wins it All at ADRL in Virginia

PETERSBURG, VA — This weekend’s American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Speedtech U.S. Drags III marked only the second ADRL race of KH Al-Thani’s career, but in a Pro Extreme class loaded with top talent on a record-breaking weekend, it was the Qatar native who proved to be the quickest learner.

Al-Thani didn’t set any time or speed records with his supercharged 1968 Camaro on the eighth mile at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) on Saturday, but he did emerge as the most consistent Pro Extreme competitor, knocking off Joshua Hernandez in the championship round in front of a near-capacity crowd.

Al-Thani’s Al-Anabi Racing teammate Shannon Jenkins also won in Pro Nitrous, Gary White of Titan Motorsports prevailed in the Extreme 10.5 final, Brian Gahm successfully defended his 2009 Extreme Pro Stock event title and Ashley Owens scored his second consecutive Pro Extreme Motorcycle win.

After qualifying second, Al-Thani knocked off veteran Brian Daniels, rookie Mick Snyder, and former two-time class champion Jason Scruggs to reach Hernandez, the winningest driver in Pro Extreme, in the final round.

Barklage’s Resurrect the ’57 Chevy For ADRL Speedtech at VMP

Petersburg, VA – After a devastating crash with the team’s 69 Firebird at the Hardees Georgia Drags VI last month in Cecil GA, one would think Cody Barklage would be sitting on the sidelines until the car was fixed.  Team Barklage does not know the meaning of quit.  They took their old car that was up for sale, pulled the drive train out of the wrecked Firebird and stuffed it in the 57.   “We’re just hoping to qualify” stated the younger Barklage, “we don’t have a lot of data on this car, so it’s going to be interesting.”

O’FALLON, MO — The recently formed Fight Me MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) league was introduced today as the new major, multi-year sponsor of American Drag Racing League (ADRL) competitor Joshua Hernandez and his supercharged Pro Extreme 1957 Chevy.

Hernandez, last year’s championship runner-up and winningest driver in Pro Extreme history with six career race titles, will debut his new Fight Me look in this weekend’s ADRL Speedtech U.S. Drags III at Virginia Motorsports Park.

“It is so exciting for me to help introduce Fight Me to the ADRL audience,” the Conroe, Texas-based driver said. “I’m also looking forward to attending Fight Me events later this year and introducing the ADRL’s unique brand of eighth-mile drag racing to the millions of MMA fans around the world. The Luck Bank At ADRL South Georgia

Taking The Race One At A Time In ADRL Extreme Pro Modified

Hagerstown, MD – Our return to the fantastically prepared and well run Hardee’s session at South Georgia Motorsports Park was quite the exercise in futility for our Appalachia on Steroids Pro Extreme Camaro. And that, My Friends is a classic understatement! After what we thought was a very successful test session at Maryland International Raceway the Saturday before the Easter Bunny arrived, we found out was a major misconception.

The ADRL draws the first two pairs out of the hat for each class in the first round of eliminations which eliminates the “I ain’t going up first, are you? NOPE!” syndrome. So as our luck would have it John Stanley was the first car drawn first round. And this as well is not usually good for us! At the hit of the throttle for the first qualifier John’s usually able steed went about 20 feet and blazed the tires. Luck bank draw, NEGATIVE number one. Then on the second qualifier young Cody Barklage came out of the right lane across the center line on two wheels and missed the back and/or the driver’s door of John’s Camaro by a bit. The fact that Cody missed John at all put us even more in the Luck Bank at that point!

So it was on to the third qualifier on Friday night and our time to shine! Not a snowball’s chance in Hades’ on this day! John left with a lazy car under him and no power to do anything except to pedal it and try to get to the other end. And when it was all said and done we were left number 16 on the ladder of sixteen! We called that one a wash at the Luck Bank.

Tommy D’Aprile’s Wild Ride at ADRL’s Georgia Drags VI

Cecil, GA – Tommy D’Aprile took one wild ride during the 3rd round of Pro Extreme qualifying on Friday night at the ADRL Georgia Drags VI.  Oil from the engine got under the left tire of the supercharged Camaro sending it into the left wall.  “I felt it go and knew I was along for the ride,” stated D’Aprile.  Tommy was uninjured during the incident, we can’t say that for the car.
