Al-Balooshi’s Team Delivers Record-Breaking Rd 2 Win At QRC

Courtesy of ADRL

DOHA, QATAR – Khalid Al-Balooshi’s otherwise standout racing at Qatar Racing Club seemed to have found more misfortune during Round Two of the Arabian Drag Racing League last week.

After losing on a holeshot during the semifinals of Round One in Pro Nitrous, Al-Balooshi’s car broke after qualifying first during the opening round.

This time, though, Al-Balooshi and his talented team overcame the adversity, turning two weeks of disappointment into a resounding celebration. A popped manifold got fixed in time, and Al-Balooshi ended up with a 3.83 at 195.14 miles per hour, which not only gave him the Round Two title, but also set both records in the process.

In the winner’s circle, a thankful Al-Balooshi was thrilled to deliver the win to a team that worked unbelievably hard just to get his car fixed in time for eliminations.

Davis Dominates Snowbirds to Double-Up at End of Season

Story by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — The year could not have ended any better for Ronnie “The King” Davis. The Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer won the last two races he entered in 2010, each time starting from the number-one qualifying position and each time in a different Tommy Mauney-built ’63 Corvette.

Davis mounted a charge in October to win the final NHRA Division II points race of the season at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Georgia, capping a thrilling come-from-behind campaign that secured his second NHRA Top Sportsman divisional championship by just a single point. Then, Davis earned the Automatic Pro Mod win in dominating fashion Dec. 3-5, at the prestigious and historic Snowbird Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in south Florida.

Hunnicutt, Todd, Al-Balooshi Grab Round 2 Wins At Qatar Racing Club

Courtesy of ADRL

DOHA, QATAR – Rob Hunnicutt stayed up most of Thursday night envisioning how Friday’s eliminations would go at Round Two of the Arabian Drag Racing League at Qatar Racing Club. Now, Hunnicutt will have a tough time sleeping for an entirely different reason.

Proving that consistent is best, Hunnicutt, a Pro Extreme Motorcycle driver with the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), won his first-ever race in either the ADRL or the Arabian Series, going 4.20 in the finals to knock off Billy Vose at QRC.

“I’m pumped, man. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to sleep,” Hunnicutt said. “Coming through the pits after I won, there was so many people congratulating me and cheering me on. This has just been a great experience.” After a runner-up finish in Round One, Hunnicutt did one better a week later to take the points lead after two of the eight events.

Joining him in the winner’s circle in Qatar was J.R. Todd in Pro Extreme and Khalid Al-Balooshi in Pro Nitrous. Todd knocked off Frankie Taylor in the final after Taylor broke. Todd barely did much better, but it was still a win, just more than a week after the former NHRA Top Fuel standout debuted in the Pro Extreme class with a sparkling new ’57 Chevy. “They stayed up late to repair their engine. Congrats to them,” Taylor said.

GMPP CATALOG COVER CAMAROS REVIVE THE COPO SPIRIT OF DEALER-BUILT SUPERCARS

Courtesy of GMPP

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Dealership-created performance packages were an important part of Chevrolet’s muscle car heritage. Names like Yenko, Nickey, Berger and others helped drive high-performance options, while enhancing the mystique of one-off collectables decades later. In fact, it was creative ordering on the part of dealers that created the legendary COPO Camaros of the late 1960s – cars available from those enterprising dealers, but not offered in any official catalog or order guide.

More than 40 years later, a couple of dealers – DeNooyer Chevrolet in New York and Georgia’s NeSmith Chevrolet – have rekindled the concept of using Chevrolet’s own parts to create specialty Camaros that simply aren’t offered in regular production. DeNooyer used GM Performance Parts’ (GMPP) LSX454 crate engine (part number 19244611) to build a modern 454 engine for the Camaro SS, while NeSmith transplanted the supercharged LS9 engine from the Corvette ZR1 into their Camaro.

NEW GM PERFORMANCE PARTS LSX454R CRATE ENGINE DELIVERS POWERFUL, WINNING COMBO TO DRAG RACERS

Courtesy of GMPP

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – GM Performance Parts’ (GMPP) announces the all-new LSX454R crate engine (part number 19257880), a 720-horsepower drag racing engine that is the most powerful LS engine ever engineered by General Motors.

The LSX454R is officially rated at 720 horsepower and 720 lb.-ft. of torque, but it is capable of more. A very strong, all-forged rotating assembly and optimized high-rpm airflow were developed by GMPP engineers, who have the most experience with building and testing LS performance engines in the industry.

“The LSX454R uses the latest LSX parts and factory-engineered technology to take LS performance to the next level,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, product integration manager for GM Performance Parts. “This is a great engine to use when building a cutting-edge drag car with one of our new Camaro bodies in white.”

Growth in the popularity of LS-based drag racing helped drive the design and development of the LSX454R. It brings together many of the specialized GMPP LSX parts racers are already using, including the robust LSX Bowtie block, and offers a ready-built engine that is competitive out of the crate.
