Heading to Richmond Michael Handras Finds Redemption and First Wally in Super Comp at Charlotte

BROOKLYN, NY – After a runner up finish due to an -.002 redlight last October in Charlotte, Michael Handras returned to ZMax Dragway two weeks ago determined to redeem himself and did just that in his debut race with new primary sponsor VP Racing Fuels and Lubricants.

The reigning Division One Super Gas Champion, who calls Brooklyn home, is fielding three cars this season in partnership with Duane Shields Racing. With a new hauler, new sponsors, and full-time crew member Jason Oteri joining the team, Handras’ win is the first National Event win in a career that spans more than 15 years.

“We had a great car this weekend,” said Handras. “The Eastburn’s put this dragster together for me last year and I knew if I did my part, we’d get to the winner’s circle sooner than later. Having Jason Oteri on board to dial it in at ZMax was key as we continued to advance through the weekend.”

Handras squared off with Jeremy Mason in round four, who had eliminated him in Super Gas earlier in the day. “Racing Jeremy I knew I had to bring my A-game. I always have to bring it, but with Jeremy I knew I had to be sharp. He is one of the best.”

NEOPMA Returns to Atco Dragway for Pro Mod Warz

ATCO, NJ – The Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) is continuing its 30th anniversary season with a return to New Jersey’s historic Atco Dragway this weekend, May 13-14, for the track’s Pro Mod Warz. It’s the second race on the 2022 NEOPMA schedule, which includes eight points races and an eight-car invitational race.

Since last racing at Atco in 2019, the series made the switch from quarter-mile competition to eighth-mile racing. The group has seen an uptick in racer participation since making the change. Weather dependent, at least 16 cars are expected to compete at Atco this weekend.

“I think we can expect a really great show,” said John Mazzorana, founder and president, NEOPMA. “We’re not going to have as many cars, but we will have great racers like the Deckers, Fredy Scriba, the King/Pilot/Miller team, Chuck Ulsch, Dave Norris, and Rob Hunnicutt, as well as new NEOPMA racer Joe Newsham. We’ll have a lot of fast cars; we just won’t have the volume. Like many others in the industry, a lot of our racers are having trouble getting parts.”

Wyakin Foundation Partners with Phillips Connect and Justin Ashley Racing

IRVINE, CA – Phillips Connect and Justin Ashley Racing announce their partnership with the Wyakin Foundation, a nonprofit organization that connects wounded and injured veterans with the resources and opportunities to have a better future. The partnership will extend for the remaining 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing season.

Phillips Industries is a longstanding supporter of the Wyakin Foundation, and connected Justin Ashley Racing with the nonprofit in January 2022. Since then, Ashley and his team have been dedicated to helping Wyakin, along with Phillips Connect, in its mission of preparing wounded veterans for fulfilling post-military careers.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Wyakin Foundation for the rest of the 2022 NHRA season,” said Phillips Connect’s CEO and Founder, Rob Phillips. “The Phillips family has always sought out philanthropies we resonate with, and Wyakin has been on the top of our list. RICHMOND NEXT STOP FOR JUSTIN ASHLEY AND PHILLIPS CONNECT

RICHMOND, VA – Six races into the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Shot are battling for control of the points lead. Less than three rounds of racing separate the top four drivers in the hyper competitive category that has seen five different winners and ten different finalists this season. Ashley sits in third place just 46 points behind the leader Brittany Force. Heading into Virginia Motorsports Park the Phillips Connect and Vita C Shot Top Fuel team is looking to make a move.

“I can’t say enough about the job Mike Green and Tommy DeLago are doing as crew chiefs on this race car,” said Ashley, who also enjoys support from Auto Shocker and KATO Fastening Systems. “We have been running great throughout the early part of the season. Although we lost in the second round at Charlotte, we qualified number one and picked up our first four-wide round win as a team. I am very much looking forward to bringing that momentum into Virginia.”

Only Ashley and Mike Salinas, currently No. 2 in the points, have been to multiple final rounds in the Top Fuel class this season. Ashley, a three-time national event winner, has also raced to a semifinal finish at the Gatornationals. In addition to round wins the 2020 Rookie of the Year secured his first No. 1 qualifier at the Circle K Four-Wide Nationals. His worst starting position this season is sixth and he also has a No. 2 qualifier and two No. 4 qualifiers to his credit.

RICHMOND WILL BE NEW EXPERIENCE FOR JOSH HART

RICHMOND, VA – For the second time in the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series second year driver Josh Hart will race at a new national event track for the first time in his young professional career. This weekend when the NHRA returns to Virginia Motorsports Park for the Virginia Nationals, Hart and his TechNet Top Fuel dragster team will make their first passes at the fast track located an hour from the nation’s capital. The track will not be completely unknown to the two-time Top Fuel national event winner since he has experience racing Top Alcohol Dragster on the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at three regional events. In 2019 Hart ran his career quickest elapsed time in a Top Alcohol Dragster, 5.132 seconds, in a round one victory at Virginia Motorsports Park.

“I have experience from my Top Alcohol Dragster days in Virginia, but we haven’t raced in Virginia in a couple years,” said Hart. “I set my elapsed time record for Top Alcohol Dragster at that track, so I feel pretty good about returning. The biggest difference will be racing my TechNet Top Fuel dragster at over 320 mph but after the first pass I know it will be all good.”

Hart had a very successful career in the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks before making the jump to Top Fuel in 2021 running a partial schedule. The racer from Ocala, Florida, had a strategic plan to launch his professional career and support from TechNet and R+L Carriers was instrumental in putting his development and success on the fast track. He won his first professional national event, the 2021 NHRA Gatornationals and then added a second Top Fuel win during the NHRA Countdown in Charlotte, North Carolina. Through 13 races last season he also added an additional four semifinal appearances.
