Gainesville, FL – Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has announced that he will be making his NHRA Full Throttle Series debut at the 41st annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals, March 11-13, at historic Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway.

The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion will be competing for one of the 16 qualifying spots in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock class in the Shell Dodge Avenger for Allen Johnson and J & J Racing.

“Pro Stock is the tightest pro category as far as the elapsed time is concerned and it’s not going to be an easy task,’ Busch said.  “I feel me teaming up with Allen Johnson and the Mopar folks, we’ve given ourselves the best opportunity to make the show.”

Busch spent a good part of his busy offseason testing with Allen Johnson and he earned his NHRA Pro Stock license with an impressive best-pass of 6.576 seconds at 210.43 mph at Bradenton, Fla.

NHRA CREATES NEW PROGRAM FOR 2011 SUPER STOCK AND STOCK CLASS ELIMINATIONS

Courtesy of NHRA

GLENDORA, Calif. – After reviewing feedback from the Performance Aftermarket Advisory Council (PAAC) and a majority of NHRA contingency sponsors, NHRA officials announced today the creation of an innovative program for Super Stock and Stock class eliminations, which will be introduced at select NHRA national events during the 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Series season.

The new program will feature a 12-race class-eliminations schedule for Super Stock and Stock that will offer double contingency payouts at four of those events. A new bonus-points program will be instituted for the eight non-paying class-eliminations events, and season-ending contingency payouts will be awarded to two National Class Performers (stick and automatic divisions) in each category. Finally, to enhance competition in class eliminations, new stick and automatic combo classes will be created in Super Stock and Stock to group those classes that are represented by only one car.

Makenna wins National Trail Raceway JR Dragster Rookie of the Year

Courtesy of Jegs

Hebron, OH – Makenna Brown, the granddaughter of Jeg Coughlin Sr. and his wife Sue, raced less than half a season in the Division 3 Junior Dragster series, but she did enough to garner Rookie of the Year honors, following the legacy set out by the famous Coughlin racing clan.

Brown established herself at her first event, racing a yellow-and-black JEGS-themed rail to victory at her home track of National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio. She repeated the feat a month later in her first Division 3 event — the Buckeye Fuel Wars — with another trip to the Winner’s Circle.

She later added a runner-up result to her ledger and cut a perfect .500 light at Kil-kare Dragway in early October. Overall, after racing in just seven of 15 points meets, Brown finished the year in eighth place.

Thornton Racing poised for Triumphant return in 2011

Fontana, CA – Four Time Pacific Street Car Association Pro Street Champion Ed Thornton is excited about his 2011 campaign. That is because he sat out most of 2010 to concentrate on his business S U Sand Cars. Near the end of 2010 he was getting restless after watching at all but one of the PSCA regular season races from the grandstands.

His crew chief Doug Stewart and car chief Tom Esbri had gone on to assist the Hairston Motorsports team and tuner Shane Tecklenburg was with Scott Oksas’ Payless Water Heaters team. Then in October, Thornton had a chat with his friend and mentor Derrol Hubbard regarding his desire to compete again at the Street Car Super Nationals.

With Hubbard’s assistance and with help from a few other friends, Thornton was able to piece his twin turbo ’63 Corvette back together and make the necessary upgrades to compete. Tecklenburg joined the fray after Oksas car was destroyed in a testing mishap and Esbri and Stewart fresh from tuning Hairston to the PSCA Championship announced they were prepared to run with Thornton at SCSN. Suddenly, the “Band” was back together again.

Courtesy of RPM

In keeping with their motto, “We Are The Innovators, Not Imitators”, RPM Magazine is excited to announce the official release of the long anticipated RPM E-MAG!

In November, RPM Magazine announced the start of their online “E-publishing” campaign by introducing their E-TECH allowing website visitors to read RPM tech articles, and have now added FULL issues of RPM Magazine, “RPM E-MAGs“… the best part is that you can read them all at www.rpm-mag.com absolutely free!

“We’re very excited about our new E-Publishing project here at RPM,” said RPM Editor in Chief, Chris Biro.  “But let me start by saying that we have structured this program so it will not affect our valued subscribers, who will always be the first to get RPM!  In fact, the RPM E-MAG will not be published until 45 to 60 days following our newstand ‘On Sale’ date listed on the front of every RPM printed magazine.  This will work to actually enhance our subscriber base (now in 26 countries), allowing all-comers to view the quality and exclusive content that only RPM offers, leading to them wanting their own printed copy first… just like all of our current subscribers… because we all know there is nothing like that feeling you get when your new copy of RPM shows up on your doorstep each month!”
