Mike McIntire savors victory at Pittsburgh Nitro Jam!

NEW ALEXANDRIA, PA – Finally, after seven previous meetings and seven excruciating losses to Peter Gallen and the “Poverty Stricken” team Mike McIntire and the “McAttack” crew finally got their revenge on Saturday with a thrilling victory during the finale of the inaugural Pittsburgh Nitro Jam at Pittsburgh Raceway Park.

And he wasn’t alone.

Saturday was a night for new winners as Michael Manners retook the Pro Fuel points lead with a victory over Friday winner Robin Samsel and Mike Scott, who traveled all the way from British Columbia to compete in Pittsburgh’s Nitro Jam event, claimed a win over Nitro Harley newcomer Jake Stordeur.

Qualifying complete for drag race openers at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ON –  Bruce Boland, Peter Edwards, Kevin Wicke, John Orfanidis, and Dave Marshall set the pace qualifying number one respectively in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

The event, the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, was the first race for this year in all three series.

Bruce Boland, of Hamilton, Ontario, qualified number one in the PMRA with a 5.953-second, 235.47-mph posting. The former champion debuted his new 1941 Willys, and was dialed in for the first race of 2011. Qualifying second was Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario, with his 1968 Camaro, and third was Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, in his 1963 Corvette.

Gallen wins fifth Ironman of 2011 season!

NEW ALEXANDRIA, PA – For the fifth time this season Peter Gallen and Mike McIntire met in the finals of a Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car race.

And for the fifth time this season Gallen walked away the victor.

In front of a rambunctious Pittsburgh crowd in Gallen’s home state, the driver of the “Poverty Stricken” Vega cruised to his fifth win of the season and seventh consecutive victory over McIntire in a thrilling race at the inaugural Pittsburgh Nitro Jam Friday night at Pittsburgh Raceway Park.

Gallen was joined in the winner’s circle by Robin Samsel in Pro Fuel who upset new points leader Bill Evans and Jay Turner picked up his series-tying third win of the year in Nitro Harley over Steve Dorn.

Eight-Car Top Sportsman Exhibition At Kansas Army National Guard Independence Drags V In Topeka

O’FALLON, MO – The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) will again be featuring Top Sportsman racing at its next event.

It will run an eight-car Top Sportsman exhibition at the Independence Drags V, which takes place on June 17-18 at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kan.

For those interested in being a part of the eight-car exhibition race, they are encouraged to e-mail ADRL Director of Technical Services Chris Bell at chris@adrl.us.

The Top Sportsman class, which is an extremely popular class for full-bodied cars, made its ADRL debut at the Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove Raceway on May 5-6.

Eric Latino and Team Green to debut new car and engine for PMRA opener

PORT PERRY, ON – He’s got a new car, a new engine, and a new team partner, and Pro Modified Racing Association racer Eric Latino and Team Green is ready for the new season.

“The new car is 100 percent finished,” noted Latino, who placed third in the 2010 PMRA Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport. “We’re all ready to race.”

With close to 30 years of racing activity, Latino has partnered for 2011 with Pro Modified car owner and team leader Rob and Ann Sporring, and has replaced his 1938 Chevy coupe with a 1969 Chevy Camaro Pro Modified.

Cherissa Smallwood Anticipates First Race at Pittsburgh Raceway Park

Pittsburgh, PA –  Cherissa Smallwood, pilot of The NitroandLace.com Pro Fuel Dragster Team, is elated to be racing her forth of five IHRA Nitro Jam Races slated on her teams schedule for the 2011 racing season. 

Smallwoods team, led by her father Ron Griffis, have had their hands full since the San Antonio Race earlier in the year.

“We had a gremlin that weekend that was really difficult to diagnose in two days of racing” said Smallwood, “we never got to really look at everything after Baton Rouge as Mike Manners was kind enough to allow us to leave the car and rig at his home in Houston so we could save on fuel and obvious wear and tear on the rig.

“This weekend, we have redone some things that we are very excited about and looking forward to turning our whole program around, for not only the great IHRA Fans in Pennsylvania, but all of our IHRA Family as well.”

Chris Demke and Maddern Racing Looking to Secure Division 7 All Stars in Bakersfield

Famosa, CA –  The Southern California based Top Alcohol Dragster Team of Maddern Racing with Chris Demke as the pilot,  are ready for racing action this weekend at the third of six Pacific Division 7 Lucas Oil Racing Series Event in Famosa, California. 

This event is the sixth race for the Peen Rite / Clean Boost Performance Oil Partnered team this year.  They currently sit fourth within the National Points Championship chase.

“We had a very tough weekend during our last race at the Vegas Nationals” noted Demke, “our team, along with several others, experienced a manufacturer’s heaven with the amount of carnage we experienced that kept us from making it to the Semi Finals.
