O’FALLON, MO – New doors continue to be opened for Top Sportsman racers in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL).
The world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced on Monday that ADRL sponsor Tim McAmis Performance Parts will be offering a new Top Sportsman No. 1 Qualifier Program.
The low qualifier program will award the top qualifier in Top Sportsman $500 at each of the final five events during the 2011 season.
This exciting incentive will begin at this weekend’s Ford Drive One Summer Drags VII, which is the fifth of ninth stop on the 2011 ADRL Tour and takes place from U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich.

Winners crowned on championship Sunday at inaugural Summit Racing Sportsman Spectacular

BUDDS CREEK, MD – Over the past 40 years thousands of different drivers from all corners of North America have hoisted trophies and celebrated victory with the International Hot Rod Association.
None, however, have done it more than Anthony Bertozzi.
Bertozzi, a native of the small town of Ashland located in the heart of Virginia, has compiled an impressive resume during his lengthy drag racing career that includes a record 16 IHRA championships and over 60 national event victories, all of which sweeter than the last.
So when the IHRA decided to celebrate the past four decades with a special race held over the weekend in southern Maryland featuring a record payout and other prizes just a few hours from Bertozzi’s home, it was only fitting that the winningest driver in IHRA history participate.
And even more fitting, win. Bertozzi was one of nearly half a dozen winners from the inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular held at Maryland International Raceway over the weekend, winning the Super Stock class and pocketing a cool $5,000 in the process awarded to class winners at MIR.
BARTONE WINS 4th NATIONAL EVENT OF 2011 IN JOLIET

Joliet, IL – On the same weekend where New York Yankee Derek Jeter made history collecting his 3,000th career hit, Long Island City, NY native and life-long Yankee fan Tony Bartone, driver of the Rick Jackson Racing Mustang Top Alcohol Funny Car captured his 4th National Event victory of the 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Route 66 Nationals contested at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. The victory also extended his point lead in the team’s quest for the Lucas Oil TAFC World Championship.
Bartone entered the National Event at Route 66 Raceway qualified in the number 3 position, after recording a 5.648 during the final qualify session which also served as the first round of the Jeg’s Sportsman All-Star competition. The Rick Jackson Racing team was the NHRA Division 4 representative for this unique specialty event. However, their quest for the Jeg’s title ended in a 0.0142 second margin of victory semi-final loss to Division 1 hitter Todd Veney.

BUDDS CREEK, MD – It was billed as the biggest and grandest sportsman drag race in the 40 year history of the International Hot Rod Association.
And so far, after just one day of competition, it looks like the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular is living up to that hype.
A massive contingent of championship race teams filled the grounds at Maryland International Raceway on Saturday as the opening rounds of qualifying and first round of eliminations wrapped up day one at the inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular at MIR.
In addition to the $5,000 awaiting class winners on Sunday, Summit Racing Equipment also added a $100 bonus to top qualifiers on Saturday leading to some fierce competition to grab the top spot in each class. And leading their respective fields after a busy Saturday at MIR are Alan O’Brien (Top Dragster), Todd Fontana (Top Sportsman), Roy Hill (Super Stock), Jim Marshall (Stock), Mike Daymude (Quick Rod), Jay Bradford (Super Rod) and Matthew Robinson (Hot Rod).
Division 4 takes dramatic JEGS Allstars victory

Joliet, IL – Following a thrilling day of competition among drag racing’s best sportsman racers, the team representing Division 4 claimed the overall team title at the prestigious JEGS All-stars event today at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. Tied with the Division 7 team heading into the final round, the clincher came when Division 4 Super Stock racer Slate Cummings defeated Division 7’s Tony Mandella to officially lock up the championship, and the $20,000 team bonus that accompanies it.
Cummings, who reached the final round in Stock, scored the bulk of the points for the Division 4 team. Tommy Phillips also did his share of the heavy lifting by driving to the Super Comp title over defending champion Michael Miller. The Division 4 team finished with 1,300 points, 100 more than the Division 7 squad. The Division 3 team was in the running until the late rounds, ultimately finishing with 1,100 points while the teams from Divisions 1 and 2 tied with 800 points. On the other end of the standings, the Division 5 team scored 300 points while the Division 6 team was completely shut out on the scoreboard, scoring zero points for the event despite a talent-laden team.
Sportsman legends honored Friday at All-stars kick-off party
Manzo, who has done everything a driver can achieve in a Top Alcohol Funny Car, was given a trophy recognizing 200 wins on both the national and divisional level.
Maddern Racing’s Peen Rite Team Qualifies #1 For Jeg’s Allstars

Joliet, IL – After two rounds of qualifying today at the NHRA Route 66 National Event in Chicago, Chris Demke piloted the Maddern Racing Top Alcohol Dragster entry into the #1 position for the 2011 Jeg’s Allstar competition.
“Our first pass wasn‘t too pretty” noted Demke, “the car smoked the tires off the line and I pedaled it a couple of times but it just danced around so I lifted.
“The next pass, we had a .911 sixty foot time and soared through the finish line at 5.351 seconds at 269.19 mph which put us in the number one spot for tomorrow’s eliminations.”
The Peen Rite/Clean Boost sponsored dragster will race Division 5 representative Randy Meyer in first round of Jeg’s Allstar Competition is slated to begin on Saturday at 1:00 PM and conclude later that day.

Roy Hill Headed to Budds Creek for Biggest Sportsman Race in IHRA History

BUDDS CREEK, MD – Roy Hill is rolling into Maryland International Raceway with the Phoenix Racing 2010 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Super Stockers locked and loaded, and his sights are set on taking home the hardware from the largest sportsman class race in the forty year history of the International Hot Rod Association.
The inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular kicks off this weekend at MIR, and Hill is excited about making his return to IHRA competition.
“We’re not just running an NHRA program, we’re also running some IHRA races, along with our match race program,” Hill said. “I think IHRA is on the right track with their sportsman program, and a race like this weekend’s Sportsman Spectacular is proof of that. Some of the absolute best racers in the world will be there, so I have to be on my game.”
