Kristen Dennis aiming to put “Ladies’ First” at Texas Nitro Jam

San Antonio, TX – As a working mother of two, Pro Fuel Dragster pilot Kristen Dennis knows all about pressure. She gets the kids off to school, deals with homework, sports, and running a business all at the same time. Now throw in running a
five thousand horse power dragster into the mix, and the fun begins.
Dennis will be taking a rest from her daily routine by competing at the IHRA’s Nitro Jam at the San Antonio Raceway this weekend. The crowd is in for a Texas treat, served up by Kristen Dennis and her “Ladies’ First” Pro Fuel Dragster. While it may not seem like a vacation to some, Dennis will be spending time with her kids, her friends, and the fans of Nitro Jam.
“This is a hometown race for us,” said Dennis. “I have family, friends, and even High School classmates coming out who have never seen me race. They have seen videos, but never in person. This is huge. I love interacting with the fans. It’s an all day event since we race at night.
It’s also a great way for them to see the car up close, meet the crew, and learn about what I do. The women are really excited to hear all about it and the men are amazed also. I don’t want to be called a good woman driver, just a good driver. It doesn’t matter who is in the other lane, I’ll beat anyone.”
Ahten and 801 Racing Pull out the Nitro Jam Win

Tucson, AZ – The Stump Puller lived up to its name this past weekend at IHRA’s Southwestern International Dragway. The crowd screamed and yelled. But they were not running for their lives, but running to the winners circle to congratulate
Johnny Ahten on his Nitro Jam win. Ahten defeated Bill Evans to take the Ironman trophy home to Southern California. This is Ahten’s second Nitro Jam Ironman, so now his 2010 Utah Ironman has some company on the shelf.
“We were so excited to get the win for all the folks that support us,” said Ahten. “Running a Pro Fuel car is not cheap, and I really want to thank 801 Racing, Island Renovations, Fireman’s Brew, Fire Ice, Hedman Hedders, and NGK Sparkplugs. I also want to thank my Dad and Crew Chief Al Ahten, as well as crew members Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Kevin Colvell, and Kelly Fitzgerald.”
The road to the final round was paved with a win over Cherissa Smallwood. In that round, Ahten set low elapsed time of the event with a 5.41. That kind of performance took the pressure off the team and allowed them to concentrate on the rest of the operation. In the finals against Bill Evans, there was a bit of drama on the starting line.

Davis Heads to Houston Ready to Race

SUWANEE, GA — Ronnie Davis has won five IHRA Top Sportsman championships and is a two-time NHRA Div. 2 champion, but this weekend he begins a quest to win the first-ever American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Top Sportsman
national title. The all-eighth-mile series opens its 2012 tour Mar. 30-31, with the CarSafe Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway, near Houston, where Top Sportsman will begin its first full season of official ADRL status after debuting as an exhibition class last year.
“I’m excited about getting to this first ADRL race and going after the championship,” the Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer says. “I’m very happy that ADRL added Top Sportsman and becoming the first to win a championship in it with all three major sanctioning bodies would be a tremendous achievement.
“I’m very, very serious about this. At almost every race I go to I’m working as well as racing; I bring golf carts and satellite systems to sell and I service carts and satellite dishes at the track, but this time the only golf carts I’m bringing are my own. I’m going to the ADRL with one objective only and that is to race. It’s the first time I’ve done this in a long, long time, but I think it will help me mentally and to stay focused. I’m looking forward to that.”
Demke to Race Delayed Final at National Event

Las Vegas, NV – The final round of the Vegas Regional has been delayed. Not the greatest of news to Chris Demke and Jim Whiteley. The two racers were paired up in the Top Alcohol Dragster final, but a errant piece of paper had other ideas. Just
as the cars were approaching the finish line, something disturbed the timing lights. So the race was put on hold until the third round of qualifying at the Big O Tires NHRA National event this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Chris Demke and his Peen Rite/801 Racing Dragster qualified in the #2 slot and were matched up against Garrett Bateman in the first round. Bateman got the starting line advantage, but a best run of the weekend 5.323/269.73 gave Demke the win. The round victory also garnered Demke enough points to earn the chance to represent Division 7 at the Jeg’s All-Star event in Chicago.
In the second round, Joey Severance took a shot at the tree but lost to Demke and tire smoke. The Peen Rite Dragster boogied down the strip to a consistent 5.357 at 269.73. It was on to the finals and Whiteley.
Coughlin gets lots of seat time at Tenn-Tuck

BOWLING GREEN, KY – While he didn’t win one of the top prizes during this weekend’s Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown E.T. racing series event at Beech Bend Raceway Park, Troy Coughlin Jr. did accomplish a goal that may ultimately prove to
be more beneficial as he got the opportunity to make numerous competitive runs behind the wheel of his JEGS.com dragster.
“For my first bracket racing outing of the year, I’m very pleased,” Coughlin said. “I got down to the last nine cars during Sunday’s $5,000-to-win race ,which was pretty good. I lost to Scott Lemen and he went on to win the race. It was cool watching him win and seeing the reaction of his family on the starting line. That’s what this sport is all about.
“I felt like I had a chance in almost every race and that’s really all you can ask for at these big bracket races because everyone you race is so tough. Overall, I drove well and the car was just about perfect. I just didn’t have the luck I needed.”

ADRL And Tyrant Productions To Offer Live Broadcast and Extensive Coverage Of 2012 Season

O’FALLON, MO – The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) will be presented free and live online at www.ADRL.us from start to finish during its highly-anticipated 2012 season.
Working with Tyrant Productions for the 2012 ADRL Tour, the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced on Thursday that each of its 10 events will feature a live, high-quality stream, capturing every run of qualifying and each elimination matchup.
In addition, Tyrant Productions will give ADRL fans and viewers an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the drivers and personalities that have made the ADRL a must-see event in the drag racing world.
Ted Glinny Returns to Pro Bike & Sled Series for 2012

MILTON, ON – The winner of the last Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products event will be back for the 2012 season.
“We’re going to give it a go,” said Pro Bike rider Ted Glinny, who won the 2011 season closer at the Cayuga Dragway. “I’m in the process of building a good motor for the season.”
Glinny, who has been drag racing motorcycles for over 30 years, rides a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja powered by a 1425-cc engine. The engine is fueled by a Lectron system, and employs a GPZ 1-2 automatic transmission which resides in the FBG chassis. The bike is capable of quarter-mile times in the mid eight-second range at speeds over 140 mph.
Glinny said he has only raced motorcycles during his racing career, and only in drag racing.
