2012 TNT Super Series Champion – JJ Jablonski

Courtesy of TNT

WEST SENECA, NY –  JJ Jablonski has won a lot of drag races in the western New York area over the last 18 years.  Winning events at both the local and divisional levels, he’s a two-time IHRA Divisional Champion – once in Hot Rod and once in Super Rod.

This year, he bested 64 of the best sportsman drag racers in the country and earned the title of 2012 Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series Champion.

For the West Seneca NY racer, 2012 was a season filled with many ups and downs.  His season started off slow but then turned a corner in June at the Cayuga double header where he scored both a win and a runner-up.

Then on Labour Day weekend, JJ cemented his points lead with another win at Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

With Pro Stock Title Virtually in Hand, Johnson is No. 2 in Friday Qualifying at NHRA Finals

Courtesy of Mopar

Pomona, CA – It’s been 17 long years in the making, but now Mopar Dodge Avenger driver Allen Johnson is just a day away from putting himself and his J&J Racing team in the record books as NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champions. Johnson ended the single Friday qualifying session at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in the No. 2 spot, with only two final qualifying rounds tomorrow standing between him and the 2012 NHRA Pro Stock title.

The Team Mopar veteran was No. 1 after Thursday qualifying with a pass of 6.565-seconds at 210.47 mph. He bettered that mark with a 6.537/211.56 run on Friday, the second-quickest of the day behind Greg Anderson, who knocked Johnson from the preliminary pole. Needing simply to qualify to earn his first career Pro Stock championship, Johnson is virtually assured of the crown considering his current No. 2 position. But true to perfectionist form, he and his J&J Racing squad are more focused on reclaiming the pole at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona than on any impending celebration.

Butler wins Top World Championship in Memphis

NORWALK, Ohio (November 9, 2012) – Have you ever had one of those mornings where things just felt like they weren’t going to go your way?

Tim Butler sure has.

When the Sarasota, Florida awoke on Saturday at the IHRA Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway, he just couldn’t shake this feeling that it just wasn’t going to be his day. A runny nose, sore throat and an overall ache left Butler a little more down than usual on race day.

But one thing that always cures a sickness is winning and Butler won bigger than anyone at the IHRA World Finals in Memphis as the Floridian crossed the line first and laid claim to the Top World Championship and one of the most lucrative prize packages in the sport all during the Summit SuperSeries World Championship runoff presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering.

Mopar Driver Johnson Starts Hot at NHRA Finals, Grabs Preliminary Pole and Edges Closer to Title

Courtesy of Mopar

Pomona, CA – Mopar Dodge Avenger driver Allen Johnson hasn’t officially clinched the 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock championship — the key word being officially. Needing only to qualify to secure his first career Pro Stock title, the Team Mopar veteran raced to the preliminary No. 1 spot during the first qualifying session on Thursday at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., and is well on his way to celebrating a title when the eliminations field is set on Saturday.

With rain in the area (the Top Fuel qualifying session was washed out), Pro Stock competitors were luckily able to make their qualifying runs, with Johnson leading the pack thanks to an elapsed time of 6.565-seconds at 210.47 mph. Three qualifying sessions remain as Johnson attempts to secure a class-best 11th No. 1 spot of the season, 29th of his career and second at Pomona — and most importantly, the 2012 NHRA Pro Stock title.

Kay collects Mod Championship in borrowed car

Courtesy of IHRA

NORWALK, OH – Imagine this.  After a dominating year that included a third consecutive points championship at your local track, a win at the Division 2 West Summit Team Finals and a trip to Memphis International Raceway to compete for a world championship upcoming and suddenly bam! No more car.

That was exactly the situation faced by Ragland, Alabama’s Shane Kay who blew the motor on his regular championship winning machine at the same Team Finals in which he qualified for the World Finals and was suddenly left without a ride with the biggest race of his career just one week away.

Thankfully for Kay, this story actually has a happy ending. Just a few days later the owner of Kay’s home track of Alabama International Raceway Jason Collins, an experienced racer in his own right, lent Kay one of his cars for the big race. Four days later Kay was in the winner’s circle with the borrowed car celebrating his first major championship as winner of the Mod class during the Summit SuperSeries World Championship presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering.

Straight to the Top: Gingles Wins Central Region TAD Title

Written by Todd Veney/Pro Sportsman Association

Gord Gingles was as surprised as anyone when he came out of nowhere to win the Central Region championship this year. “It’s still hard to believe we finished on top,” said Gingles, an unknown from Winnipeg, Man., who had run just a handful of races in Top Alcohol Dragster before 2012.

Randy Meyer was supposed to win. “He had the better car at so many races,” Gingles said.

“That car went A to B all the time,” Meyer said of Gingles’ ride, “The Bull” A/Fuel Dragster owned and tuned by Clif Bakx. “I didn’t really know those guys, didn’t even know what the driver looked like, but you really have to hand it to them. They did a good job this year.”
