TB Promotions to acquire Verge Quick Outlaw Series

LOUISVILLE, KY – Many of us were shocked by the news on Wednesday that the Verge Quick Outlaw Series was suspending operations for the 2024 season. The series was created in 2020 and quickly became known as the premier series for the 4.70 Door Car and 4.50 Dragster index racers.

The TB Promotions team is very happy to announce that starting immediately, TB Promotions will acquire the Verge Quick Outlaw Series!

Jeffrey Walls spent many years building the series up to where it is today and the TB Promotions team is going to continue those strides in the 2024 season, and beyond.

New Winners Again In Verge Motorsports 4.50/4.70 Outlaws

Bowling Green, KY – After a couple of repeat winners emerged this summer in both the 4.70 Door Slammer and 4.50 Dragster classes for the first time ever, some wondered if the parity of the classes would fade away and door for dominance would open.  In the group’s August event held at beautiful Beech Bend Dragway in Bowling Green Ky, first time winners, Ryan Gibson and Brian Jones proved that is not the case.

Ryan, driving his turbo powered Firebird defeated a field of 46 cars to claim his $10,000 check for the G-Tech Cleaners 4.70 Class win over Ron Barnhill’s Ohio based Mustang. His .006 reaction time (4.76) was all he needed as Barnhill was tardy on the tree and broke out (4.68) trying to make up the difference. Gibson took a bye run into the finals while Barnhill and Jerry Duke raced to a near dead heat. Both drivers were .015 on the tree and ran 4.707 ET for a margin of victory of .000.

Seth Garrison was number one qualifier with a 4.7000 148.01 mph pass.  A total of 9 drivers qualified 4.70.

Hutcheson and Click Continue New Trend of Repeat Winners

Mooresville, NC – The Verge Motorsports 4.70/4.50 Outlaws went 10 races without repeat winners in either class.  Chris Vanover broke that string at the previous event with his 2nd win in the G-Tech Cleaner 4.70 Class.  Last week in Mooresville NC Jason Hutcheson broke through for his 2nd win and Carroll Click did the same in Outlaw Trailers 4.50 Dragster.

Hutcheson, using stellar reaction times, left first in 5 out of 6 rounds and drove the finish line to perfection to claim the $10,000 Purse. After an overnight rain delay and the inability to settle a split, he defeated Neal Brown’s Chevy II on Sunday morning. That set up the final round with Mooresville’s own Donnie Gibbs Jr., who had the bye run in the semi-finals. Jason left first and ran a 4.725 to defeat Gibb’s 4.723.

In 4.50 dragster Carroll Click won the coin flip to be declared the victor over J.Holston.  Click defeated a red-lighting Steve Maddox in the semis as Holston took his bye. Click became just the third driver to win 2 races in the series and the first to win in back-to-back races.

Newcomers Prevail at Huntsville

Huntsville, AL – One of the unique rules about the 4.70/4.50 Quick Outlaw Series events is that you do not have to be a member to participate and race for the full purse.  Mike Clark from Louisville KY and Andy Anderson from Huntsville AL took full advantage of the opportunity to collect $10,000 and $7,500 respectively for their wins last Saturday night at Historic Huntsville Dragway.

Clark, driving his beautiful late model Camaro put on a reaction time clinic through six rounds of action, excluding his round 4 bye run, he averaged an unheard of .011 on the .400 pro tree.

Fellow Kentuckian Rick Harless was Clark’s opponent in the final round but his .019 RT and 4.713 could not get around the winning .007 RT 4.712 elapsed time.

Mooresville runner-up Jonathon Gibbs was the lone semi-finalist.

HUTCHESON AND MARTIN WIN GOLD AT SILVER DOLLAR

Reynolds, GA – Four races into the Verge Motorsports 4.70 Quick Outlaws series, there has yet to be a repeat finalist and that trend continued in the latest event held at Silver Dollar Dragway in Reynolds GA.

With the heat index above 100 degrees, you would think that it would slow the cars down, instead exactly half of the field ran in the 4.60 range during first round of qualifying. When it was over Brian Thomas secured the GPS Race Cars #1 qualifier position and the points lead with his semi-final finish. His 4.701 led the field of 26 cars.

In the semifinals, eventual $10,000  winner Jason Hutcheson defeated a red-lighting Thomas with a 4.722 and multi time NHRA Champ David Tatum defeated Phenix City AL’s Randy Griswold. Both drivers recorded 4.709 elapsed times but Tatum’s .009 reaction time gave him the hole-shot win over Griswold’s .038.

Hutcheson turned the tables on Tatum in the finals and put down a .002 initiated 4.734 in his Beretta to bounce Tatum’s .038 and 4.710 in his Fireade sponsored Chevy S10.

VANOVER IN FULL EFFECT FOR THE WIN!

Bristol, TN – There is an inside joke amongst many of the 4.70 Quick Outlaw racers about Chris Vanover and the knack he has had for knocking off some of the more accomplished racers in the series. When the Outlaws left Bristol Dragway early Sunday morning the “Vanover Effect” had swept # 1 qualifier and the win over 58 of his competitors.

In 6 rounds of racing his worst reaction time was .017, including a .003 in the first round.

The semi-finals saw Vanover defeat Wendall Martin and his Outlaw Trailers sponsored 68 Camaro 4.736 to a 4.777.  Runner-up Shane Westmoreland ran a perfect 4.700 to win over Ohio’s Rusty Hampton 4.732. Factoring in Hampton’s .003 to .035 starting line advantage and the race was nearly a dead heat.

Vanovers assault on the Christmas tree continued in the final with a .008 reaction time and 4.729 to turn back Westmoreland and his .035 initiated 4.730.

Wheatcraft Takes the Win and The Points Lead

Xenia, OH – Chris Wheatcraft  wheeled his beautiful Mopar powered Neon to the Verge Motorsports 4.70 Quick Outlaws win at Ohio’s Kil-Kare Dragway, but it was anything but easy for the veteran.  During the first three rounds he overcame subpar reaction times by doing a masterful job at the finish line to advance.  The next three rounds saw him improve significantly, including a stellar .0173 in the final against red-lighting Jeremy Jensen in his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette.  Both competitors ran it out, 4.714 to 4.708 respectively.

Jensen defeated Chase Alderman in the semi-finals while Wheatcraft enjoyed the bye run after defeating Randy Griswold the previous round.

ASHE AND ROBERTS RIDE OUT THE RAIN TO VICTORY LANE

Mooresville, NC – The inaugural event for the Verge Motorsports 4.70 Door Car and 4.50 Dragster Quick Outlaws was greeted with a 98% chance of rain for race day, so the Saturday event was rescheduled for Sunday and it proved to be a great decision.  Sunny skies greeted the 51 door cars and 21 dragsters that showed for first round at the historic Mooresville (NC) Dragway.

At the end of the day, it was Lee Ashe taking his 1963 Corvette to victory lane and a $10,000 pay day over a red-lighting Jonathon Gibbs. Ashe, who had been fighting chassis set-up problems all day saved his best reaction time .017 for the final but didn’t need it after Gibbs was -.008 red on the tree. Both drivers ran it all out with Ashe recording a 4.73 and Gibbs’ Camaro finishing in 4.74 seconds. Tyler Allen and Justin Smith were the semi-finalist.

During his victory lane celebration Ashe commented “I don’t think there is a bar on this car we didn’t touch today.”
