U.S. Army Top Fuel Duo Eyes Return to Memorial Day Weekend Racing at Kansas Nationals

TOPEKA, KS – As the nation honors those men and women who have paid the ultimate price while defending our freedom this us armyMemorial Day weekend, the U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster duo of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown are proud and honored to take to the racetrack once again in representing the more than 1 million Soldiers who protect our freedom and our way of life every day.

It’s been eight years since the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series has competed Memorial Day weekend. But the opportunity has returned this season by way of the 26th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals Friday through Sunday at Heartland Park Topeka. It marks the NHRA’s return to the racing calendar alongside such iconic events as the IndyCar Series’ Indianapolis 500, NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 and Formula 1’s Grand Prix of Monaco for the first time since it ended a six-year run of Memorial Day weekend events at Heartland Park in 2006.

Schumacher and Brown would like nothing better than to add to the four event titles they’ve won between them through the season’s first seven stops on the tour this Memorial Day weekend in the Heartland of America.

U.S. Army NHRA Racing  NHRA Southern Nationals Final Qualifying Report

The U.S. Army Top Fuel driver duo of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown wrapped up qualifying Saturday on a high US Army - Comp Plus - Richard Muirnote for Sunday’s elimination rounds of the 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, showing that only the strongest wear the colors of the U.S. Army, and the Army-NHRA partnership continues to provide Americans with a platform to experience the speed, power, teamwork and technology that drives that strength.

Schumacher, driver of the U.S. Army Dragster for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR), finished his day with a solid run of 3.771 seconds at 325.14 mph down the Atlanta Dragway straightaway. It was fifth-best among the 16 qualifiers for Sunday’s round seven of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event and was a significant improvement over the 3.806-second, 321.50-mph run he posted in the penultimate qualifying round earlier Saturday.

U.S. Army NHRA Racing NHRA Southern Nationals Friday Qualifying Report

Antron Brown - Southern Nationals - Photo by Roger Richards, Comp Pluscame to an abrupt end when the Matco Tools/U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster of Antron Brown was involved in a fiery accident immediately after clocking the second-fastest run of the day.

Brown, the 2012 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Top Fuel World Champion, immediately emerged unhurt from his wrecked racecar after making heavy contact with the left-side concrete barrier, flipping on its side, then making heavy contact with the right-side concrete barrier. He credited his Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) team’s cockpit canopy and fire safety technology for enabling him to climb out of the wreckage uninjured.

They’ll head to Atlanta Dragway this weekend in hopes of putting the U.S. Army in victory lane yet again when the series hits town for the 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.

U.S. Army NHRA SpringNationals Final Qualifying Report

Houston TX – U.S. Army drivers Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown showcased the level of engineering and Tony Schmacher-Comp Plus-Roger Richradsteamwork Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway in the Houston suburb of Baytown, Texas, that is reflective of the Army’s leading-edge technology and the powerful, realistic training of its Soldiers.

Both Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) teammates made significant improvement in their final qualifying efforts and are in prime position for Sunday’s elimination rounds of the 27th O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event.

Schumacher and the U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster for DSR clocked the fourth-fastest run of the weekend during today’s opening qualifying session – 3.790 seconds at 322.04 mph. He finished the day with a run of 3.857 seconds at 318.92 mph. Schumacher will meet No. 13 qualifier Khalid alBalooshi in Sunday’s opening round of eliminations.

Houston, TX – Day one of the 27th O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway in the Houston suburb of Tony Schumacker - Vegas - Photo by Gary NastaseBaytown, Texas, came to a merciful and extremely dark ending with U.S. Army Top Fuel drivers Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown seventh and 10th after the opening two rounds of qualifying for Sunday’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series elimination rounds.

The seven-time champion Schumacher had to endure an unusually lengthy 48-minute delay for track cleanup as darkness fell on the relatively unlit racetrack, all while strapped inside his U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR). But, proving that only the strongest wear the colors of the U.S. Army, and that the Army NHRA partnership provides Americans a platform to experience the speed, power, teamwork and technology that drives that strength, Schumacher delivered his fastest run of the day – 3.839 seconds at 324.12 mph. It was good for seventh in the provisional qualifying order. Schumacher opened the day with an afternoon run of 3.881 seconds at 317.12 mph, which was eighth-best for the session.

U.S. Army Teammates Aim for Victory in NHRA’s Unique Four-Wide NHRA Nationals

CONCORD, NC – It’s no secret that Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and his U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster team for Don Tony Schumacker - Vegas - Photo by Gary NastaseSchumacher Racing (DSR) have a remarkable ability to rise to the occasion when the pressure to perform is the greatest. Time after time, they’ve been faced with the challenge of having to overcome incredible situations in the ultra-competitive NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. And, more often than not, their results have underlined the importance of possessing mental, emotional and physical strength like that displayed by our U.S. Army Soldiers, who inspire and play a huge part in their drive to be successful.

The pressure will be high again this weekend for the seven-time Top Fuel champion and his U.S. Army team in the fifth annual Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte. Schumacher will not only have to compete against one 10,000-horsepower Top Fuel Dragster at a time, he’ll be racing three others each time he makes a run in the U.S. Army machine beginning Friday afternoon. The goal by Sunday will be to finish first or second in the first two heats of four competitors, and then be the first to the 1,000-foot mark in the final.

U.S. Army NHRA Racing 49th Annual Auto Club NHRA Finals Saturday Qualifying Report

Pomona, CA – Qualifying for Sunday’s elimination rounds of the 49th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals ended in dramatic fashion for both US Army RacingU.S. Army drivers Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown as the pair continued to exemplify how the Army is the Nation’s preeminent leadership experience, where the Nation’s future leaders are developed and empowered with the confidence to take decisive action when needed and the flexibility to excel in constantly evolving situations.

Schumacher, the seven-time Top Fuel world champion, needed a run of 3.821 seconds at 323.81 mph during this afternoon’s fourth and final qualifying run of the weekend to extend his streak of consecutive qualifying efforts to 247 in the U.S. Army Dragster for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR). Schumacher ended up 13th on the final timesheet and matches up against No. 4 qualifier Doug Kalitta in Sunday’s opening round of eliminations. He was 17th after hazing his tires midway down the 1,000-foot straightaway on his third-round qualifying run earlier today.
