Drag race series to participate at upcoming Canadian Motorsports Expo

TORONTO, ON – Several types of drag racing will be on display this weekend (February 7-9) at the eighth annual Canadian Canadian_ExpoMotorsports Expo, Canada’s largest venue related to motorsports.

Several teams that compete in the popular Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike and Sled Series will be on hand at the CME with their race vehicles.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, will be represented by both the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes that comprise the series. From Buffalo, New York, Dan Flanigan will display his Top Sportsman 2013 Chevy Camaro. The NOCO Energy Corporation Camaro features a 680-cubic inch nitrous-injected engine underneath the swoopy G-Force Race Cars product.

Three Drag Racing Series announces their 2014 schedules

CAYUGA, ON – Racing dates for the upcoming season have been announced for the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), the PMRA-10th-logo-500pxQuick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS).

Started in 2005, the PMRA has grown into one of the strongest Pro Modified series in this popular class, presenting a solid contingent of teams at some of the best facilities in Eastern Canada and the United States. The PMRA has become a major player in the Pro Modified ranks, and has produced some of the best racing of this nature in North America with top cars and drivers doing battle on drag strips in Ontario, Michigan, and Maryland.

Along with its annual regular championship, the PMRA has provided fans with performances at major national drag racing venues, and last year at a special Pro Mod shoot-out in Maryland, took both first and second spots against some of the best teams in the Pro Modified world.

Night of Champions PMRA, PBSS and Quick 32 series pays honor to the teams of the 2013 racing season

BURLINGTON, ON – The annual Night of Champions was recently held for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Rocky De Lecce - 2013 PMRA ChampionSportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

This is the season-ending event for all three drag race series, and honors the teams for their efforts throughout the racing season.

For 2013, the banquet was held at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington, Ontario, and hosted by Bill Mehlenbacher.

With the three vehicles of each series champion on display, the top five teams from each series were presented with their awards.

The PBSS Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Dan Cryderman – Champion

CAYUGA, ON – Dan Cryderman had an exception year in 2013, as the Pro Bike rider won his first Pro Bike & Sled Series Championship Dan CrydermanPoint Award Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

Cryderman, of Thamesville, Ontario, took the title in the third season of PBSS competition.

We started coming around late last year, noted the Suzuki rider, who placed third in the 2012 points race. Since that time we got into six straight finals. The bike has been working like a top, the engine running well, and we’ve achieved great consistency.

Ironically Cryderman’s string of finals was broken in the final event of 2013.

Cryderman did not race in the season opener at Martin, Michigan, leaving that to crew member Jeremey Van Bastelaar who qualified third for the team and went to the semi-final. Cryderman was back on his Suzuki for the next event, qualifying number three at the first race of the year on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park and winning the event, beating John Schwartz of Lancaster, New York.

The Pro Bike & Sled Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Pro Bike Rider Ted Glinny – Second Place

CAYUGA, ON – Former champion Ted Glinny came close but couldn’t repeat his success of last season in the Pro Bike & Sled Series for Ted Glinny2013, placing second in the Championship Point Award Series.

Presented by Wiseco Performance Products, the PBSS has now completed its third year of operation.

Pro Bike rider Glinny, of Milton, Ontario, started his PBSS season well, qualifying number two and winning over Marty Kuiack, also of Milton, for the opener held at Martin, Michigan. Then the Kawasaki rider qualified sixth and was knocked out in the first round for the first of three events held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park. He was also out in the first after qualifying third for the next event, but took a victory during the Canadian Nitro Nationals at Cayuga over series champion Dan Cryderman of Thamesville Ontario after qualifying fourth for the fourth race.

He also qualified fourth for both of the next two events, held at the Grand Bend Motorplex, finishing up in the second round at the first race, but taking his third win of the season of the year-end closer at Grand Bend with a final round victory over Melissa Pluim of Pefferlaw, Ontario.

The Pro Bike & Sled Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Dave Vandereyken – Third Place

CAYUGA, ON – One of the strongest competitors in a competitive field, Pro Bike rider Dave Vandereyken placed third in the 2013 Pro Dave VandereykenBike & Sled Series Championship Point Award Series with his Suzuki.

Now in its third year, the PBSS is presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

Running five of six events on this year’s PBSS card, Vandereyken, of Acton, Ontario, did not race at the opener at Martin, Michigan. He qualified ninth for the next event, held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, and was eliminated in the semi-final.

For the next race, the South Coast Community Weekend, held at Cayuga, he qualified sixth and went all the way with his Suzuki, eliminating 2013 PBSS champion Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario in the final round.

In the next race, Vandereyken qualified eighth and was out in the second round, while in the next event, held at the Grand Bend Motorplex, he qualified eighth again and was out in the first. For the final race, he qualified third and was eliminated in the semi-final.

The Pro Bike & Sled Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Melissa Pluim – Fourth Place

CAYUGA, ON – Taking fourth place in the 2013 Pro Bike & Sled Series was the Pro Bike team of Marty Kuiack and Melissa Pluim, who Melissa Pluimeach drove three races in the six-race series, and who each lost in a final round to Ted Glinny, the 2012 PBSS champion.

Marty KuiackThis is the third season of PBSS competition, which is presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

Starting in Martin, Michigan, Kuiack qualified fourth in the field, but lost to Glinny, of Milton, Ontario, in the final.

Melissa PluimFor the next two races, held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, Kuiack qualified eighth and fifth respectively, but was out in the semi-final of the first race and the first round in the second race.

Not able to continue to race the rest of the season, due to a broken wrist at the Cayuga event, Kuiack, of Milton, handed over the riding chores to his crew chief Melissa Pluim, from Pefferlaw, Ontario. Pluim qualified for the fourth race but was out in the first round.

The Pro Bike & Sled Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship

Pro Bike Rider John Orfanidis – Fifth Place

John OrfanidisCAYUGA, ON – Always one of the top contenders in the Pro Bike & Sled Series, John Orfanidis qualified number one or two for each of the six PBSS events in 2013.

John Orfanidis-1The popular drag race series, which pits Pro Bike and Pro Sled riders using a Sportsman (full tree) timing system, is presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

Riding his Suzuki GSX-R for the Quality Automotive team in Pro Bike, the Toronto, Ontario rider started out well in the first event of the year at Martin, Michigan, qualifying number one, but was eliminated in the first round.

John Orfanidis-2For the next three events, all held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, Orfanidis qualified first in two of the races and second in the other, but was plagued with bad luck during eliminations.

PBSS Pro Bike rider Ted Glinny wins PBSS season finale at Grand Bend

GRAND BEND, ON – The sixth and final event of the 2013 Pro Bike & Sled Series was completed over the “Thunder by the Beach” Ted GlinnyWeekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex and Ted Glinny marched through the field of motorcycles and snowmobiles to win this race, his third of the year.

And series fellow competitor Dan Cryderman, who had a lead in the Championship Point Award Series, maintained this lead during the event to win his first PBSS championship, which is presented by Wiseco Performance Products. This race ended the third year of the PBSS, which pits Pro Motorcycle against Pro Sled riders in a Sportsman-style drag racing environment.

Pro Bike rider Glinny, of Milton, Ontario, qualified his 2000 Kawasaki in fourth with a 8.462-second, 149.80-mph posting behind the top three qualifiers, John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario, Cryderman, of Thamesville, Ontario, and Dave Vandereyken, of Acton, Ontario.

Glinny eliminated Pro Sled riders James Goudreau of Sudbury, Ontario and Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario, and then had a bye run to meet up with number six qualifier and Pro Bike rider Melissa Pluim of Pefferlaw, Ontario.

Di Lecce named PMRA champion, Wilson and Gray take Quick 32 Sportsman Series title, and Cryderman win his first PBSS title

GRAND BEND, ON – Race winners and 2013 season champions were declared during the Thunder by the Beach Weekend at the Grand GuistBend Motorplex for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

GuistThis event was the final for all three drag race series, and along with new event winners, the championship in each series was announced.

After a stellar year with five victories in the PMRA, Rocky Di Lecce of Mississauga, Ontario has been named champion, his first in the Pro Modified series. The Top Sportsman team of Rob Gray and Bill Wilson of Ingersoll, Ontario won their first Quick 32 Sportsman Series title, and Pro Bike rider Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario won his first championship in PBSS racing.
