2014 Championships Crowned; Roth in PMRA, Schmid in Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Cryderman in PBSS

GRAND BEND, ON – Going into the Thunder by the Beach race weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex over the weekend, Jeff Rothchampionship titles were on the line as racers took to the quarter mile in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

This was the final event of 2014 for all three series.

And when the tire smoke had settled late Sunday afternoon, 2014 season champions were declared in all three drag race series, two titles by the smallest of margins.

Going into this event, perennial PMRA racer Jeff Roth was second in Championship Point Award Series behind Bruce Boland. Roth, who qualified number three with his 1941 Willys Pro Modified, knew he and his team had to win the event to capture the championship.

Drag racing champions to be determined this weekend at Grand Bend’s popular “Thunder by the Beach” August 29-31

CAYUGA, ON – The final race in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series Boland - PMRABoland – PMRAtakes place this weekend, and this event could determine the 2014 champions.

Presented by Teamsters Canada and Local 879, the “Thunder by the Beach” racing weekend will be held at the Grand Bend Motorplex August 29-31, and promises an exciting climax to the drag racing season with a large contingent of cars in many classes.

Three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland will be on his game trying for his fourth title. The Stoney Creek racer with the B&B Racing 1968 Firebird Pro Modified leads the Championship Point Award Series at present with 1072 points, but he will have his work cut out for him, as fellow racer Jeff Roth of New Dundee, Ontario is close behind with 1056 points with his 1941 Willys Pro Modified.

Jeff Roth, Erin Staley, and Dan Cryderman take home wins in Grand Bend drag racing event

GRAND BEND, ON – The track, weather, and racing was in top form during the 18th annual Stratford Spectacular Hot August Jeff-RothNationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts held over the weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

When the final rounds were completed, Jeff Roth took the win in the Pro Modified Racing Association, Erin Staley won the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Dan Cryderman took the Pro Bike & Sled win.

Driving his Roth Racing 1941 Willys Pro Modified, Jeff Roth qualified number two in the field and worked his way to the final to run against three-time PMRA champion and number one qualifier Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek. But Boland uncharacteristically cut a red light, giving Roth the automatic win.

Tony Positano on a roll going into next race event at Empire Dragway

CAYUGA, ON – Tony Positano is hoping to keep the momentum going. The Top Dragster driver won the recent round of Quick 32 Tony PositanoSportsman Series competition held at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, and is looking forward to the next event June 13-14 at the Empire Dragway in Leicester, New York.

We had a great race in Martin, said Positano, who hails from Toronto, Ontario. Everything went our way and we are hoping to continue at this next race.

Now in its sixth season, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series is presented by NAPA Auto Parts and the trip to the IHRA-sanctioned Western New York track will be the Series’ first.

Quick 32 Sportsman Series and PBSS head to Empire Dragway for next event

CAYUGA, ON – The next round of drag racing for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled series will be June 13-14 at Quick 32Empire Dragway in Leicester New York, south of Rochester.

This third event of 2014 for both series will also be their inaugural visit to the Western New York IHRA-sanctioned facility. Both series will compete eighth-mile on the Empire Dragway track.

In 2008, the Pro Modified Racing Association, companion series to the others, raced at Empire when it was known as New York International Raceway Park.

After two rounds this season, Top Dragster driver Tony Positano leads the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, which is now in its sixth year and presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Positano, of Toronto, Ontario, won the recent event in Martin, Michigan. Second in points is another Top Dragster driver, Glen Vardy of Burlington, Ontario, who won the season opener at Grand Bend.

Adler, Positano, and Catanzaro claim wins during Super Chevy Show at US 131

MARTIN, MI – Round two saw first-time winners in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Randy AdlerPro Bike & Sled Series during the Super Chevy Show held at US 131 Motorsports Park at Martin Michigan over the weekend.

Winning his first PMRA race was Randy Adler, while Tony Positano captured his first Quick 32 Sportsman Series win, and Mark Catanzaro rode to his first PBSS victory.

Racing his 1957 Chevy Pro Modified from Tinley Park, Illinois, Adler qualified second in the PMRA field. Sponsored by the A-Team Speed Shop, the Chevy of the UDRA and Super Chevy series champ features a blown AJ Hemi on a Tim McAmis Race Cars produce.

Winners hoping to repeat success at upcoming Super Chevy Show at US 131 Motorsports Park

CAYUGA, ON – With one win in the 2014 season, the victors are hoping to repeat their success at the next event for the Pro PMRA-10th-logo-500pxModified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

All three drag race series continue this weekend, May 30 – June 1 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan as part of the track’s Super Chevy Show.

First-time Quick 32 Sportsman Series winner Glen Vardy would especially enjoy a win at Martin, as his Top Dragster is Chevy powered and won the opener at Grand Bend May 18.

We had an awesome weekend at Grand Bend, said the Burlington, Ontario racer. We are going to Michigan to try it again. We are going to try to be the quickest Chevy at the Super Chevy Show.

Vardy presently leads in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, followed by the Top Sportsman teams of Wilson and Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario, and Wes Goddard of Guelph, Ontario.

PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS off to US 131 Motorsports Park

CAYUGA, ON – Three top drag racing series will compete in their second round of 2014 at the upcoming Super Chevy Show and PMRA-Pro ModNight of Thunder at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan May 30 – June 1.

The Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series are proud to return to the Michigan facility for the third time, and are proud to be a part of this spectacular weekend of drag racing action.

We really enjoy coming to US 131 Motorsports Park, and to be a part of this year’s Super Chevy Show weekend is fantastic, said Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for all three series. Our teams are proud to be a part of this great show.

Boland, Vardy, Cryderman win drag racing openers at Grand Bend Motorplex

GRAND BEND, ON – Two series champions and a fourth-year team scored big in the opening round of the Pro Modified Racing Bruce Boland - Grand BendAssociation, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series over the weekend.

The event, the RPM Magazine / Lucas Oil Spring Blowout, was held at the Grand Bend Motorplex and was the first race for all three series of 2014.

Three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland won his opener, as did last year’s PBSS champion Dan Cryderman, while the Quick 32 Sportsman Series win went to fourth-year racer Glen Vardy.

Boland, of Stoney Creek, drove the B&B Racing 1968 Firebird Pro Modified to number one qualifier spot at Grand Bend with a 6.131, 233.10 posting. He took out Jason Kalso of Clarkston, Michigan in round one and Quebec’s Denis Lachance in the semi to meet up with number six qualifier Jack Grainy of Basom, NY in the final. Although Grainy was away first, handling problems on the 1967 Camaro made him back off, while Boland went on to a 6.181 at 239.74 and the win.

The win was Boland’s 11th in 10 years of PMRA competition.
