VICTORY FOR SEVERANCE AND WHITELY AT THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN

DENVER, CO – In the final results from Bandimere Speedway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Annie Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Severance, worked his way through the field and ran 5.468 seconds at 265.43 mph in his final round victory over Dean Dubbin, Royalton, Minn., who clocked in at 5.611 seconds, 248.89 mph. Severance dominated the field running low elapsed time in reach round of eliminations after qualifying No. 1.

Whiteley, faced off against Jirka Kaplan, Calgary, AB., and posted a winning run of 5.765 seconds, 355.87 mph in her ’15 Camaro. Kaplan was out first with a big holeshot but Whitely had the power as Kaplan drove to a 5.822 second, 248.57 mph lap for his runner up finish.

Both the Super Stock and Super Gas finals saw impressive reaction times this weekend as Chris Chaney, Claremore, Okla., had a reaction time of .009 seconds and ran 10.935 at 123.38 mph taking the win in the Super Stock class over Robert Cruzen Sr. Mike Boehner, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was even better with a .006 second start and a 10.498 second run at 145.25 mph to take home the victory in Super Gas against local runner Mike Miller, Littleton, Colo.

WELCH, LONGHANY AND STANFIELD LEAD WINNERS IN BRISTOL

BRISTOL, TN – Joseph Welch raced to victory in the SAM Factory Stock Showdown to lead the list of winners at the 18th annual Fitzgerald USA NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

Eddie Longhany Jr. and Aaron Stanfield joined Welch as they took home wins in Stock Eliminator and Top Dragster presented by Racing RV’s respectively along with Scott Stillings, Tyler Caheely, Steve Furr and Jeff Brooks who also won this weekend.

Welch ran consistent 8.20’s through most of eliminations with an 8.275 second lap at 164.67 mph in the final of the School of Automotive Machinists Factory Stock Showdown in beating Arthur Kohn who left early with a red-light foul start.  The win was Welch’s first in his first final round at the NHRA national event level.

Longhany meet up with former NHRA Lucas Oil World Champion Joe Santangelo in the Stock Final which proved to be one of the closest finals of the day. Longhany was out first and ran 10.698, 118.70 which held off Santangelo’s 10.686, 113.69 by about 9 inches.

LUCAS OIL NORTHWEST DIVISION DOUBLE HEADER CONCLUDES AT MISSION RACEWAY

MISSION, BC – The Northwest division LORDCO Auto Parts B.C. Nationals Double-Header came to a conclusion Sunday evening at Mission Raceway. Racers cheered with their teams in the winner circle after completing an eventful race weekend.

Northwest rivals Kim Parker, Graham, Wash., and Shawn Cowie, Surrey, B.C., squared off the in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round. Cowie took the lead and pulled away running 5.319 seconds, 274.97 mph to keep Kim Parker at bay and earning the Wally trophy. Parker finished up at 5.345 seconds, 271.73 mph.

In the Top Alcohol Funny Car final round, Chris Marshall, McMinnville, Ore., ceded the starting line advantage to fellow Oregon runner Brian Hough of Junction City. But Marshall recovered and surpassed Hough for the final round victory hitting 5.573 seconds, 265.33 mph. Hough runner upped at 5.620 seconds, 264.62 mph.

After taking home the Super Comp Wally in the first half of the double header, Randy Beck, Tacoma, Wash., entered Sunday’s final round against Len Mayer, Vegreville, Alb. Beck took the lead, running 8.908 seconds, 168.00 mph to earn his second Wally of the weekend in Super Comp. Mayer brokeout chasing Beck.

LUCAS OIL WINNERS CROWNED IN NUMIDIA

NUMIDIA, PA – Richard Preiser and Kyle Bigley scored big wins this weekend at Numidia Dragway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

Preiser recorded a perfect .000 second reaction time in his ’67 Mustang against Marty Rinehart in the Super Stock presented by ATI final round. The .043 holeshot forced Rinehart to chase Preiser down, and ultimately break out by just .002 seconds as Preiser, Jackson, N.J., took the win.

Bigley also parlayed a holeshot of .002 into a win over Mike Robilotto in Super Comp. Bigley clocked in at 8.921 seconds at 170.64 to barely hold on as Robilotto came charging with an 8.903 run on the 8.90 index.

In Comp Eliminator, Jay Schonberger out of Philadelphia bagged his first win after James Primozic went red with the foul start. Peter Luciano won in similar fashion in Super Gas when Derek Clark left .005 seconds too quick giving Lucian his first win since 2015 and his first ever in Super Gas.

WINNERS CROWNED IN FIRST HALF OF LORDCO DOUBLE

Mission, BC – Drivers rounded out winner’s with their teams Saturday during the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northwest Division LORDCO Auto Parts B.C. Nationals.

Ryan Warter of Olalla, Wash., squared of against fellow Washington runner Jeff Lane of North Bend. The Northwest racers put on a competitive race. Warter came out on top of the Comp Eliminator showdown, running 8.723 seconds, 150.07 mph. Lane finished at 7.940 seconds, 166.75 mph.

The Stock Eliminator final round yielded another Washington showdown between Bill Bushmaker of Auburn and Larry McLanahan of Kennewick. Bushmaker took home the divisional Wally trophy with ease, as McLanahan triggered the red light. Bushmaker ran 11.323 seconds, 115.11 mph.

Quentin Chambers, Bellingham, Wash., took the starting line advantage but could not hold off the hard charging Ryan Carlson of Maple Valley. Carlson scored the Top Dragster final round victory, running 6.193 seconds, 224.71 mph.

NHRA LUCAS OIL SERIES RETURNS TO NUMIDIA DRAGWAY

CATAWISSA, PA – NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast division arrives at Numidia  Dragway on June 15-17.  The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Numidia Dragway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials begin Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 and 2 p.m. Eliminations for all classes begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday with Comp Eliminator rounds 1 and 2 at 4:15 and 5:30 p.m. On Sunday eliminations continue at 9:30 a.m.

 LUCAS OIL NORTHWEST DIVISION DOUBLE HEADER ARRIVES AT MISSION RACEWAY

The double-header is two of six events in the NHRA Northwest division and two of the 44 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events scheduled across the country where drivers in the Lucas Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. The Division’s RAD Torque Converter Top Dragster and JBS Top Sportsman series will run in conjunction with the event along with the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle series.

Gates at Mission Raceway open at 8 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. The first race on the double-header starts with qualifying and time trials on Thursday at 9 a.m. Friday, round 1 of eliminations begin at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car competitors will compete in a single event over the weekend with their opening round of qualify at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

MORRISON, CO – Bandimere Speedway will host the NHRA West Central Division Thunder on the Mountain presented by CARSTAR on June 15-16. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Advance Product Design Top Sportsman, Fineline Graphics & Madcap Racing Top Dragster and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series are also in competition.

Gates at Bandimere Speedway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9:30 a.m. and continue Saturday at 10 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify at 11:20 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 12:15p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify at 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. Eliminations begin Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Thunder on the Mountain event are $20 Friday and $28 Saturday. Friday and Saturday children 6-12 are $6 each day. Children five and under are free with paid adult.

MEYER AND BROWN CLAIM VICTORIES AT TULSA RACEWAY PARK

TULSA, OK – In the final results from Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Megan Meyer, Olathe, Kan., and Brian Brown, Gainesville, Texas, took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Sisters, Megan and Rachel Meyer ran a close race in the final round in Top Alcohol Dragster. Megan worked her way through the field and ran 5.297 seconds at  282.84 mph in her final round victory over Rachel, Spring Hill, Kan., who clocked in at 5.284 seconds, 276.58 mph.

Brown faced off against  Kirk Williams, Glenwood, Iowa, and posted a winning run of 6.273 seconds, 198.61 mph in his ’04 Firebird. The win is Brown’s first in four final rounds. Williams was quick off the line but broke, ending his hopes of a win.

Dale Hulquist, Crosby, Texas, and Slate Cummings, Hammons, La., had a close race in the Stock Eliminator class. Both drivers were quick off the line but Hulquist took the win with a run of 11.102 seconds, 118.43 mph. Cummings was close behind with a run of 10.576 seconds, 119.05 mph.

COUGHLIN, KENOPIC, TYSINGER, PARKER SCORE IN RICHMOND

DINWIDDIE, VA – Jeg Coughlin Jr., Charlie Kenopic, Joe Tysinger and Randy Parker each scored big wins at the Virginia NHRA Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, turned on the win light six times on his way to hoisting the NHRA Wally trophy in Super Comp. Coughlin faced off with Rich Dorr in the final with Dorr fouling at the start to give Coughlin his 78th NHRA national event win and his third in Super Comp. Coughlin was also competing in Pro Stock where he fell in round two to Chris McGaha.

Kenopic, Renfrew, Ont., CAN., raced his ’63 Corvette to a narrow win over Mike Sawyer, Leominster, Mass., in Super Gas. Kenopic was out first with a great .004 second reaction time which proved to be the difference as the pair ran identical times of 9.893 second laps. The win was Kenopic’s second in three national event final rounds.
