COWIE AND PAYNE VICTORIOUS AT WOODBURN DRAGSTRIP

Woodburn, OR – In the final results from Woodburn Dragstrip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Les Schwab Tires Challenge, Shawn Cowie, Surrey, B.C., and Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Cowie, worked his way through the field and ran 5.296 seconds at 273.63 mph in his final round victory over Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., who clocked in at 10.147 seconds, 85.51 mph.

Payne, faced off against Jirka Kaplan, Calgary, Alb., and posted a winning run of 5.748 seconds, 260.86 mph in his ’18 Camaro. Kaplan drove to a 5.826 second, 245.09 mph lap for his runner up finish.

In Super Street and Super Comp, a pair of brothers were close in making the win a family affair. Josh Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., took home the Super Street win in his ’61 Camaro with a pass of 10.863 seconds, 155.03 mph. Brother Michael met up with Marion Hurst, Tacoma, Wash., who put an end to the Dalrymple sweep taking out Michael with a run of 8.909 seconds, 175.33 mph to take home the win in Super Comp. Michael, Sunnyside, Wash., tripped the clocks at 8.945 seconds, at 178.78 mph for his runner up finish.

THE NHRA NORTHWEST DIVISION MAKES FIRST VISIT OF THE SEASON TO WOODBURN DRAGSTRIP

WOODBURN, OR – Woodburn Dragstrip will host its first of two NHRA Northwest division Lucas Oil Drag Racing events on July 13-15. The Les Schwab Tires Challenge is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the Lucas Oil Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s RAD Top Dragster Series and the JBS Top Sportsman Series will also run in conjunction with the event along with the Sportsman Motorcycle Series.

Gates at Woodburn Dragstrip open at 8 a.m. every day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run test sessions on Friday at noon and 4 p.m. Qualifying for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is Saturday, at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. with round one of Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car at noon.

BURNDOWN AT SUNDOWN AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY

JOLIET, IL – Gear up for one of Route 66 Raceway’s most explosive events and the NHRA North Central Division, July 13-15. Saturday’s Burndown at Sundown lights up the night with 250-mph Dragsters and Funny Cars, Jet Cars, Wheel Standers and Freestyle Motorcycles.

The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Oakley Motorsports Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Route 66 Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5:15 and 8 p.m.  Sportsman Eliminations continue Sunday at 9 a.m. with Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car running eliminations at noon.

WOMEN VICTORIOUS AT EPPING

EPPING, NH – In the final results from New England Dragway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Randi Lyn Ship, Floyds Knobs, Ind., and local racer, Deborah DiGenova, Derry, N.H., took home the wins in Stock Eliminator and Top Dragster presented by Racing RV’s respectively.

Shipp, worked her way through the field and ran 10.548 seconds at 119.12 mph in her final round victory over Howie Smith, Syracuse, N.Y., who clocked in at 11.938 seconds, 106.81 mph.

Di Genova faced off against Rebecca Miller, Canterbury, Conn., and posted a winning run of 6.802 seconds, 194.60 mph in her ’03 Dragster. Miller was right on her heels at 6.844 seconds, 193.99 mph for her runner up finish.

In the final round of Super Stock Anthony Bongiovanni, Hopatcong, N.J., defeated Tom Boucher, Byfield, Mass, in his ’14 Cobra Jet clocking in at 8.461 seconds, 158.24 mph. Boucher had the starting line advantage, but Bongiovanni had the power to take the win and his first national event win.

HART, BURCK LEAD LUCAS OIL WINNERS AT SUMMER SPECTACLE

INDIANAPOLIS – Josh Hart and Steve Burck raced to victory at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Summer Spectacle at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Hart took home the honors in Top Alcohol Dragster as Burck ousted the field in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Hart, Ocala, Fla., qualified No. 2 and met up with third generation racer Troy Coughlin Jr., Delaware, Ohio, who was coming off a win at the last Lucas Oil North Central Division event in Norwalk, Ohio. Hart was out first and pulled away for his sixth win running 5.369 seconds at 268.44 mph as Coughlin slowed to a 6.686, 147.86.

Ray Drew, Hales Corners, Wis., was out first on Burck only to have the Texas racer Burck come around him for the win and his third of his career. Burck clocked in at 5.696, 261.07 in his ‘17 Camaro funny car.

Devin Isenhower advanced to the final in both Super Gas and Super Comp looking for the elusive double-up. He first faced off with Rusty Cook in Super Gas with Cook taking the holeshot with a perfect .000 second reaction time. Isenhower, Lebanon, Ind., made it up on the top end taking the win and the first half of the double-up with a 9.908 on the 9.90 index. In Super Comp, Isenhower got the early lead but it was Adam Gerber, Massillon, Ohio, with the better package running 8.908 at 172.32 for his first career win, denying Isenhower a second win for the weekend.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES WINNERS CROWNED AT LEBANON VALLEY DRAGWAY

WEST LEBANON, NY – The Lucas Oil Drag Series, NHRA Northeast Division event concluded at Lebanon Valley Dragway Sunday evening. Winners hoisted their Wally trophies in the air as they celebrated in winner’s circle with their teams.

Duane Shields, Boulder City, Nev., traveled across the country and took the victory in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round. Shields ran 5.431 seconds, 269.65 mph to outrun Karen Stalba, Hammonton, N.J., who clocked in at 5.992 seconds, 236.67 mph.

In the Top Alcohol Funny Car finale, Dan Pomponio, Berlin, N.J., took the starting line advantage and never let Phil Burkart, Yorkville, N.Y., back into the race, completing a victory pass of 5.829 seconds, 253.52 mph. Burkart runner upped at 6.593 seconds, 154.08 mph.

Comp Eliminator standout Frank Aragona, Freehold, N.J., had an easy final round as the 2016 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series World Champion, Doug Doll, Douglas, Mass., turned on the red light, giving Aragona the win. The New Jersey racer cruised down the track at 7.907 seconds, 129.94 mph.

The division’s Oakley Motorsports Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Lucas Oil Raceway open at 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.  Qualifying and time trials start at 8:30 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny qualify at 5 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Eliminations begin on Saturday at noon and will continue Sunday at 9 a.m. with first round of eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car at noon on Sunday.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event are $10 each day. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series presented by Select Performance will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Lebanon Valley Dragway open at 8 a.m. Friday, 7:30 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Qualifying and time trials start at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 8 a.m.

Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Comp Eliminator will run eliminations on Saturday at 12:30 and 2:45 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. and will have all three rounds of eliminations on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2 and 4 p.m. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman run round 1 of eliminations at 3:30 p.m. Eliminations for all classes will continue Sunday 9:30 a.m. beginning with Stock presented by ATI.

LUCAS OIL WINNERS CROWNED AT SUMMIT MOTORSPORTS PARK

NORWALK, OH –  In the final results from Summit Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Megan Meyer, Olathe, Kan., and Ray Drew, Hales Corners, Wis., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

Meyer, worked her way through the field and ran 5.320 seconds at 277.94 mph in her final round victory over home state racer Troy Coughlin Jr., Delaware, Ohio, who clocked in at 5.369 seconds, 275.67 mph.

Drew faced off against Ulf Leanders, Viksjofors, Sweden, and posted an easy win as Leander’s left early and triggered the red light. Drew coasted across the finish line in his ’14 Mustang for his first national event win.

VICTORY FOR SEVERANCE AND WHITELY AT THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN

DENVER, CO – In the final results from Bandimere Speedway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Annie Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Severance, worked his way through the field and ran 5.468 seconds at 265.43 mph in his final round victory over Dean Dubbin, Royalton, Minn., who clocked in at 5.611 seconds, 248.89 mph. Severance dominated the field running low elapsed time in reach round of eliminations after qualifying No. 1.

Whiteley, faced off against Jirka Kaplan, Calgary, AB., and posted a winning run of 5.765 seconds, 355.87 mph in her ’15 Camaro. Kaplan was out first with a big holeshot but Whitely had the power as Kaplan drove to a 5.822 second, 248.57 mph lap for his runner up finish.

Both the Super Stock and Super Gas finals saw impressive reaction times this weekend as Chris Chaney, Claremore, Okla., had a reaction time of .009 seconds and ran 10.935 at 123.38 mph taking the win in the Super Stock class over Robert Cruzen Sr. Mike Boehner, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was even better with a .006 second start and a 10.498 second run at 145.25 mph to take home the victory in Super Gas against local runner Mike Miller, Littleton, Colo.
