FRICKE AND BOGOLO TAKE HOME WINS AT THE BUCKEYE FUEL WARS

COLUMBUS, OH – In the final results from National Trail Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jackie Fricke, Flemington, N.J., and Tony Bogolo, Hamilton, Ohio, took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Fricke worked her way through the field and ran 5.288 seconds at 271.24 mph. in her final round victory over Brandon Greco, Roscoe, Pa., who clocked in at 5.461 seconds at 245.18 mph.

Bogolo faced off against Todd Robertson, Harrison Twp., Mich., and posted a winning run of 5.934 seconds at 246.39 mph. in his ‘05 Camaro. Robertson drove to a 7.845 second, 91.30 mph. lap for his runner up finish.

In the Divisions Oakley Motorsports Top Sportsman’s class, local racer Gary Wojnowski, Brunswick, Ohio, took home the win this weekend. Wojnoswski went up against Kynon Dinkel, Terre Haute, Ind., in in his ’09 Cobalt with a time of 6.842 at 193.07 mph.

COOPER DOUBLES, AREND WINS NOSTALGIA FUNNY CAR

BOISE, ID – Justin Cooper took home not one but two trophies as he pulled off the double in the NHRA Lucas Oil Series while Jeff Arend out ran Shawn Bowen for the Nostalgia Funny Car title in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the 48th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac at Firebird Raceway.

Cooper, Medical Lake, Wash., knocked out Mike Hiatt, Fallon, Nev., in Super Comp running 9.159 seconds at 161.56 mph with Hiatt posting a 9.171, 161.56. In Super Street, Cooper met up with Al Quigley out of Aldergrove, B.C. Cooper’s ’67 Chevelle covered the quarter mile in 11.140, 129.79 to Quigley’s 11.114, 140.91 in his ’98 Mustang.

Arend qualified on top and beat out Jon Rice and Bobby Cottrell in rounds one and two before meeting up with No. 3 qualifier Bowen. Arend, La Verne, Calif., ran a 5.741 second pass at 249.76 mph as he slowly pulled away from Bowen at 5.866, 224.62.

Jeff Lane and Norman Lapointe joined Cooper at the top of the Lucas Oil Series winners list. Lane, North Bend, Wash., continued to rack up wins in Comp Eliminator as he held off Ralph Van Paepeghem in his ’10 Cobalt with a lap of 8.143 seconds, 159.70 mph to Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, at 7.414, 177.49 in his ’32 roadster.

NAPA AUTO PARTS IGNITOR RETURNS TO FIREBIRD RACEWAY

BOISE, ID – Firebird Raceway will host the NHRA Northwest Division for the 48th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac on May 4-6. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

In addition, the event will play host to the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class. Lucas Oil categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s JBS Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Firebird Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Nostalgia Funny Car qualifies on Friday at 5 pm, and Saturday at 2 and 5 pm. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon and continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. Round 1 of Nostalgia Funny Car is Sunday at 12 noon.

The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Oakley Motorsports Comp Engines Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at National Trail Raceway open at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday. Qualifying and time trials are 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 and 5 p.m. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon and continue Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run round one is at 12 noon.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway are $20 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and children 5 and under are admitted free.

CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Lucas Oi Drag Racing Series concluded at the NFK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals this past weekend at zMax Dragway in in Charlotte, N.C. Holden Laris and Don O’Neil earned National Wally trophies and celebrated with their teams in winner’s circle.

Laris, Raceland La., squared off against Larry Roberts of Laurens S.C., in the Top Dragster presented by RacingRVs.com final round. Laris took the starting line advantage and successfully held off Roberts for the final round victory, running 6.235 seconds, 208.71 mph. In the Top Sportsman presented by RacingRVs.com final round, O’Neil, Evansville, Ind., gave up the starting line advantage to North Carolina runner, Sandy Wilkins of Mount Ulla. But O’Neal was able to run down Wilkins for the win finishing at 6.903 seconds, 193.29 mph.

Megan Meyer, Spring Hill Kan., built a lead from the start and pulled away for Dan Page, Hampstead N.H., for the Top Alcohol Dragster final round win. Meyer registered a victory pass of 5.192 seconds, 276.29 mph, Page came in second at 5.250 seconds, 276.97 mph.

WINNERS CROWNED AT NHRA NORTHEAST DIVISION OPENER

RICHMOND, VA – In the results from Virginia Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Justin Ashley, Plainview, N.Y., and Mathew Gill, Brockton, Mass., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Ashley, worked his way through the field and ran 5.238 seconds at 277.89 mph in his final round victory over Jared Dreher, Clinton, Ind., who clocked in at 7.614 seconds, 120.22 mph.

Gill faced off against DJ Cox Jr., Whiteford, Md., and posted a winning run of 5.508 seconds, 268.22 mph in his ’16 Camaro. Cox suffered mechanical issues in his runner up finish.

In the MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman presented by Select Performance it was a busy weekend for local racer Mark Payne, from Waynesboro, Va., who raced in both classes taking home victory in Top Dragster and a close runner up finish in Top Sportsman.

POWER IN THE PARK STARTS THE NHRA NORTHEAST DIVISION

PETERSBURG, VA – NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast division begins with Power in the Park at Virginia Motorsports Park on April 20-22. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event as will the Pro Stock Snowmobile Series presented by Ultimax.

Gates at Virginia Motorsports Park open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying and time trials start at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 12 noon and 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The first-round of eliminations for Comp Eliminator is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 1, 3:30 and 6 p.m. Eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car are Saturday at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Eliminations will continue Sunday at 10 a.m. for all other classes.

LOPEZ WINS BACK TO BACK AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX DOUBLE HEADER

ENNIS, TX – In the final results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series two local racers claimed victories taking home the trophies in Stock Eliminator and Super Street. In Stock, Jeff Lopez, Irving, Texas, made a winning pass against Jerry Emmons in the final round with a time of 9.387 seconds, 136.91 mph, making this Lopez’s second win of the double header weekend. In Supper Street, John Long Jr, Red Oak, Texas, went up against John Leibham with a very tight finish taking the win with a run of 10.873, 121.40.

A pair of NHRA South Central Division hitters went to battle in the Super Stock final and reigning division champion Ross Laris took on Darian Boesch in the SDPC Top Dragster Final. Larris, Raceland, La., took the win running 6.050 seconds at 234.04 mph to Boesch’s 6.114, 222.66.  Slate Cummings out ran Jimmy Hidalgo in Super Stock clocking in at 9.414, 139.18 in his ’03 Cavalier to Hidalgo’s 9.737, 134.08 in his ’99 Firebird.

Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Adam Hickey, Ponchatoula, La., in Comp Eliminator; Steve Collier, Benton, La., in Super Comp and Jim Capp, Willis Texas, in Super Gas, In the division’s Top Sportsman class it was Allen Firestone, Velma, Okla., taking the win and in Sportsman Motorcycle it was Ricky Kay from Humble, Texas.

SEVERANCE, GORDON, AND BERTOZZI LEAVE THE STRIP WITH WALLY’S

Las Vegas –Joey Severance, Doug Gordon, and Anthony Bertozzi celebrated with their teams in winner’s circle this past weekend following the conclusion of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific division event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Kim Parker, Graham, Wash., grabbed the starting line advantage, but quickly had traction issues. Severance, Woodburn, Ore., powered through, surpassing Parker for the victory running 5.224 seconds, 276.07 mph. Parker came in second at 5.721 seconds, 260.36 mph. Severance continues the defence of his 2017 Lucas Oil World Championship.

2017 Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Funny Car World Champion Shane Westerfield, Anaheim, Calif., squared off against fellow Californian and TAFC standout Doug Gordon of Paso Robles. Westerfield gained the slight edge at the starting line but had mechanical issues, Gordon blew past him for the final round win; hitting his full stride at 5.462 seconds, 270.48 mph.

LUCAS OIL WINNERS CROWNED AT GALOT MOTORSPORTS PARK

RALEIGH, NC – David Rampy continued to add to him impressive career total and Michelle Furr and Jeff Strickland remained hot in 2018 taking wins at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at GALOT Motorsports Park.

Rampy ran down Mark Moreland who took the early lead but could not hold off the charging Rampy out of Piedmont, Ala. Rampy went 4.561 seconds at 144.26 for the win in Comp Eliminator.

Furr, coming off a win in Super Gas at the Gainesville Raceway NHRA Southeast Divisional took the win in Super Comp in a close race from start to finish with Sherman Adcock. Furr, Galax, Va., clocked in at 7.660, 143.41 to Adcock’s breaking out 7.649 on the 7.650 index.
