Joon, Worsham Score Victories at IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series at Darana Dragway – Milan

MILAN, MI — It was worth the wait for Lex Joon and Del Worsham on Sunday at Darana Dragway – Milan. With the elimination rounds in the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series postponed from Saturday due to rainy weather, Joon and Worsham won the Top Fuel and Funny Car races. The prestigious Ironman trophies and $50,000 winner’s purses respectively came with that, and the races were live streamed on IHRA.TV.

Joon banged the blower on his dragster right at the finish line, but the former FIA Top Fuel champion had enough for the win. Called Europe’s most successful racer, it was his first win in the United States.

“Thank the Good Lord who helped us out today,” Joon said. “Thank you IHRA. This is unbelievable what they did. We will be back for more. My crew was also unbelievable today to get the win.” Continue reading

IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series Races at Milan Postponed by Weather

MILAN, Mich. — The IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series eliminations at Darana Dragway were postponed Saturday due to weather. They will resume Sunday morning with Hot Rod at 9:30 a.m. with live streaming on IHRA.TV.

The Mountain Motor Pro Stock made it to the quarterfinal round before a pesky rain caused the postponement. No. 1 qualifier Jerry Tucker will face Kurt Neighbor. Other matchups include Dwayne Rice vs. Chris Powers and John Koningshofer against Dillon Voss. Tony Pontieri will receive a bye into the semifinals after winning his first-round matchup against Cory Voss.

Legendary motorcycle rider Jay Turner won his quarterfinal matchup against John Toth in Top Fuel Harley. He will advance with a bye intothe final round. Jordan Peterson and Ryan Perry will face off to see who makes it to the final. Continue reading

Palmer, Worsham Lead Qualifying at IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series in Milan

MILAN, MI — Scott Palmer and Del Worsham paced Top Fuel and Funny Car qualifying at the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series race at Darana Dragway – Milan.

Palmer posted both the quickest time (3.888 seconds) and fastest speed (293.73 mph) in Top Fuel time trials which was broadcast live on IHRA.TV. It comes on the heels of Palmer winning the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series race in Hebron, Ohio.

Mitch King was second at 4.038 seconds and 283.02 mph. Chuck Loftin, Lex Joon and Kyle Satenstein rounded out the top five.

Del Worsham, the 1992 IHRA World champion who finished runner-up in the Funny Car season opener at Hebron, had both the low elapsed time at 4.220 seconds and top speed (235.23 mph) in qualifying. Dale Creasy Jr. posted the second-quickest time and speed at 4.330 seconds and 223.66 mph. Jack Wyatt was third quickest, followed by Jody Austin, Dan Hix and Tod Barker. Continue reading

$125,000-TO-WIN IHRA OUTLAW PRO MOD NATIONALS SET FOR AUGUST 8-9 AT KIL-KARE RACEWAY

FAIRFIELD, OH — Starting in 1971, the International Hot Rod Association [IHRA] has embraced its roots in drag racing as a trendsetter.  A new IHRA has chosen three of its staple categories, bona fide trendsetters, to showcase the return of the series purchased by Darryl Cuttell.

The IHRA Outlaw Pro Mod Nationals will take place at Kil-Kare Raceway on August 8-9, in a throwback to the old Nitrous Nationals format, featuring multiple classes including Pro Modified, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, and Top Sportsman. The marquee category, Pro Modified, offers a winner’s purse of $125,000.

Mountain Motor Pro Stock will pay $15,000 to the winner, while Top Sportsman will have a payout of $6,000 to win.

Two of the three categories in competition at this event are homegrown under the IHRA sanction. Pro Modified grew out of the Top Sportsman division, most notably the Saturday evening Quick Eight races, and was granted professional status with its debut in March 1990 at Darlington Dragway. IHRA Announces Five Round 2025 Outlaw Nitro Series

FAIRFIELD, OH – The wait is over. The IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series is back, and it’s bringing thunder with it.  After years of anticipation, fans will finally experience the explosive return of one of drag racing’s most electrifying series. It all begins July 9–12 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio, where Nitro flames, roaring horsepower, and side-by-side battles will light up the track.

The tour continues with Milan Dragway in Michigan hosting round two July 23–26 before the series returns to National Trail Raceway September 3-6.

It is followed by the adrenaline-pumping action at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio, September 24–27 before closing out the season at the legendary GALOT Motorsports Park in Dunn, North Carolina, November 5–8.

IHRA Completes Purchase of Kil-Kare Raceway

XENIA, OH — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to announce the purchase of Kil-Kare Raceway has become final.  It is a multi-purpose facility with rich history for both the drag strip and oval track. The drag strip boasts a strong IHRA Summit SuperSeries program and even hosted an IHRA Sportsman Spectacular in 2024.

There’s a long tradition of racing at the venue 13 miles east of Dayton, Ohio. Built by the Marshall Brothers, the oval was first opened with a one-fifth-mile dirt track in 1951. After one race kicking up a dust storm, the track was paved with a full season of racing in 1952 and reconfigured to a three-eighths-mile oval in 1955.

The quarter-mile dragway opened in 1959, which made Kil-Kare a premier facility for both stock car and drag racing. Continue reading

IHRA Purchase of National Trail Raceway Becomes Final

HEBRON, OH — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has finalized the purchase of another first-class drag racing facility with National Trail Raceway.

The track located in suburban Columbus, Ohio has a rich history, first opened in 1964, and now a bright future with today’s announcement.

National Trail Raceway features a quarter-mile drag strip, which had its concrete ground just last week, and upgraded bleachers to make it more comfortable for spectators. Other amenities include a great variety of foods at concessions along with official merchandise at the National Trail Raceway (Pro Shop).

“The IHRA is great. I think (IHRA owner) Darryl Cuttell is taking it to the glory days and making it bigger and better than ever,” said NTR’s Jay Livingston who is staying on as team manager. Continue reading

IHRA President’s Cup Nationals Returns to Maryland International Raceway

MECHANICSVILLE, MD — The roar of 11,000-horsepower Nitro Top Fuel and Funny Cars will once again echo through Maryland International Raceway (MIR) as the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals makes its highly anticipated return on August 8-9, 2025.

After a nine-year hiatus, one of the International Hot Rod Association’s (IHRA) most celebrated events is back, bringing with it a legacy of unforgettable moments. First held from 1992 to 2010, and again from 2014 to 2016, the President’s Cup Nationals has long been a staple of the drag racing community, showcasing some of the sport’s most thrilling performances.

The event has seen historic milestones, including the first-ever all 6-second Pro Stock qualified field in drag racing history on September 24, 1994. It has also crowned champions across multiple classes—Scotty Cannon’s Pro Mod victory over Al Billes in the 1992 debut event, the introduction of Funny Car in 1993 when Mark Thomas took the title and the addition of Nitro Harleys in 1999 with Jay Turner’s win.
