Multiple Tracks Renew IHRA Sanctioning Agreements

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and three premier drag racing facilities — Dragway 42, Maryland International Raceway and Palm Beach International Raceway — have renewed sanctioning agreements.

Dragway 42, located in West Salem, Ohio, first opened in 1957. The facility underwent a complete ground-up restoration and reopening in 2017. Highlighted by the 1/4-mile drag strip, the multi-purpose facility hosts drag racing, autocross, truck and tractor pulls, as well as concerts and music festivals.

Part of the renovation included Musco Lighting throughout the grounds and bleacher seats that were used at Daytona International Speedway. Dragway 42 routinely attracts racers from neighboring states like West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky as well as Canada.

It has a strong IHRA Summit SuperSeries program and has hosted the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular the past two seasons.

IHRA Summit Team Finals Schedule Announced

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has announced the 2020 IHRA Summit Team Finals schedule with IHRA-member tracks throughout North America scheduled to participate.

The IHRA Summit Team Finals kicks off with the Midwest Team Finals at Eddyville (Iowa) Raceway Park, September 10-13, 2020.

Each region hosts a Summit Team Finals for every IHRA division. Any Summit SuperSeries competitor, who has an IHRA membership and an “X” number registered and valid according to IHRA records from May 1 through his or her division’s Summit Team Finals event, can win the Summit Team Finals main event championship and become eligible for the Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Memphis International Raceway, October 15-17, 2020.

International Hot Rod Association Announces Junior ELITE License for 2020

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) announces a new Junior ELITE license for the 2020 season.

The ELITE license will be exclusive to drivers ages 16-17 with elapsed time restrictions between 7.50 and 7.90 seconds and speeds up to 90 mph. ELITE license holders that dial between 7.50 and 7.89 must have vehicles meeting all the requirements for Master’s level licensing in addition to the following safety measure:

  • The chassis must be constructed of chromoly tubing and incorporate helmet bars with SFI 45.1 or 45.2 padding on the roll cage.
  • All competitors must utilize an SFI 38.1 head and neck restraint system
  • All ELITE license holders dialing quicker than 7.90 must have a rear wing.
  • A driver MUST HAVE a valid state driver’s license in addition to making the required passes prior to being issued an ELITE license.

Historic Mo-Kan Dragway Reaches Multi-Year Agreement with IHRA

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Mo-Kan Dragway, the oldest continuously-operated drag strip in Missouri, has agreed to a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA).

The track in Asbury, Mo., has been in operation at the same location since 1962, but has seen plenty of upgrades over the years with new timing system, new track surface, new tower, improved bleachers and other fan and racer amenities. Sunoco Race Fuels are offered at track.

Carl Blanton purchased the track from original owners, Jim and Ron Wilbert, in 1999. Blanton operates the quarter-mile track with his son Craig as they have events from February through November. The Sunday Fun Drags are scheduled through Nov. 24 which includes test and tune, grudge racing and fun runs.

Summit SuperSeries Champions Crowned at IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals

MILLINGTON, TN – Hundreds of International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit SuperSeries track champions, along with Summit Team Finals divisional champions from around the United States and Canada gathered at Memphis International Raceway Oct. 18-19 for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals.

With nearly 100 IHRA-sanctioned tracks represented, drivers traveled from the United States and Canada coming from nearly 4,000-miles away in Palmer, Alaska to the largest and most prestigious bracket racing championship in drag racing.

The IHRA Summit SuperSeries champions were crowned Saturday in Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Sportsman and Junior Dragster. The $200,000 program is the championship competition for IHRA member Sportsman racers and more than 8,000 racers compete in the program annually.

Keith Cleveland from Cheektowaya, N.Y., representing Lancaster Dragway won the Top World Championship. Dustin Avondet from Pierce City, Mo., representing Mo-Kan Dragway captured the Mod World Championship. Dustin Carroll from Olar, S.C., captured Sportsman World Championship. Kaden Harrill representing Knoxville Dragstrip won the Junior Dragster crown.

Summit Racing Equipment Renews Commitment to IHRA Summit SuperSeries in 2020

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The International Hot Rod Association and Summit Racing Equipment will continue the longest series partnership in drag racing with the IHRA Summit Super Series and IHRA Summit Team Finals programs in 2020.

The IHRA Summit SuperSeries, the largest and most prestigious bracket racing program in drag racing, will return for a 19th consecutive year in 2020. The $200,000 program is the World Championship for over 12,000 IHRA member-track racers each season and held at nearly 100 IHRA-sanctioned member tracks.

IHRA Summit SuperSeries track champions from 28 states and international competitors from Canada, and Aruba are represented in Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Sportsman and Junior divisions, at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Memphis International Raceway. In addition, qualifying Summit Team Final champions from seven IHRA regions are also competing at Memphis, making it the most illustrious championship event in bracket drag racing.

Capitol Raceway edges Maryland at IHRA Division 1 Summit Team Finals

MECHANICSVILLE, MD — Capitol Raceway scored a close win over home track Maryland International Raceway at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 1 (Patriots) Summit Team Finals completed Monday.

Capitol Raceway ended with 55-51 points to keep Maryland International Raceway from repeating as Division 1 champions.

Leading up to the main event, racers participated in a Gambler’s race, Bogey, Golf Cart, and Big Wheels race and “best of” awards.

Frank Lecates (US 13 Dragway) had a winning effort with a .005 reaction time combined with a 4.787 elapsed time at 142.57 mph on a 4.78 dial-in. Runner-up Bobby Spence (Capitol Raceway) had a .015 reaction time and made a 4.307-second pass at 158.39 mph against a 4.30 dial-in.

Beacon Dragway Chosen as IHRA Division 2 Track of the Year

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Beacon Dragway has been selected as the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 2 (Heat Wave) Track of the Year.

The 1/8-mile track in Paduach, Kentucky provides some of the most competitive heads-up and bracket racing in Western Kentucky. It’s also the host to autocross and rallycross events with a 2019 schedule that extends into December.

It first opened as a quarter-mile facility in 1968 before being shut down and converted to an airport nearly a decade later. In 2012, racer Keith Murt bought the property. He renovated the drag strip and reopened it the following year.

The former airplane hangers were used to house race cars, while other conveniences included parts sold on site.

London Dragway Emerges With Win at IHRA Division 2 Summit Team Finals

MILLINGTON, TN — London Dragway emerged from the pack to take the win at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 2 (Heatwave) Summit Team Finals at Memphis International Raceway.

The Kentucky-based team finished with 44 points to edge Holly Springs Motorsports with 39 points and the home MIR team with 38 points.

Other tracks who participated were: Beacon Dragway, Brainerd Optimist, State Capitol Raceway, Prescott Raceway and Knoxville Dragway.

Leading up to the main event, racers participated in Gambler’s races and “best of” awards.

Main Event:

Top — Jeremy Bargo (London) combined a 6.523-second pass at 90.32 mph with a .045 reaction time to defeat Justin Bowers (Prescott) with a 10.667-second run at 41.60 mph and a .021 reaction time.
