Pappas Ready for LenMar World Finals

Ennis, TX – It was late on Tuesday and Spiro Pappas had just finished a long, exhausting day. But there was a hint of energy and a bit of a spark in his voice, and it was almost like he wasn’t ready for the night to end. Pappas, though, will be plenty pleased if his latest string of testing success carries over to Friday’s Speedtech “Battle For The Belts” at the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VI.

After a season filled with struggles – some that were admittedly his own doing – Pappas, the No. 6 qualifier in the eight-car field, finally feels ready to defend his Extreme 10.5 2009 World Championship. The excited tone in his voice despite the late hour simply gave further evidence to that notion. “We were testing to see if things are back to where we want to be and it went better than we expected,” said Pappas, who tested Tuesday in Wisconsin. “Things went really, really well. “As a driver, I’m ready and my team is ready. Everything is coming together and it’s coming together at the prime time. (Tuesday) proved to us that we have what it takes to keep the belt one more year.”

Epic Battle for the Belts!

Courtesy of Titan Motorsports

Orlando, FL – The 2010 ADRL Battle for the Belts is almost upon us. It’s been a great year for racing ADRL XTF. All the cars have been very competitive throughout the season, and are getting quicker with every race. Team Titan has made some good progress this year too. The Scion became the first import to hit the 3 second mark (4th into Mickey Thompson 3 Second Club), and has been a consistent force at every race. So consistent in fact, that Team Titan is the season’s points leader going into the ADRL Battle for the Belts championship on October 22-23rd in Ennis Texas. With the points lead, Gary White and the Scion will have a bye run in the first round. Here is how the standings will begin:

The Battle for the Belts is an elimination ladder based on points accumulated during the season. The last car standing takes the championship. This means it is anyone’s race. Last year it was the #8 seed that won. In 2008, it was the #1 seed. This is definitely going to make things interesting in Texas.

Join Team Titan in Texas for what is sure to be an epic battle in XTF.

O’FALLON, MO — The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) has released the matchups in all six classes for the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VI and the prestigious Speedtech “Battle For The Belts.” The innovative, eight-spot elimination tournament to determine a world champion in every ADRL class (Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock and Pro Junior Dragster) takes place on Oct. 22-23 at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX.

ADRL drivers earned points during the 2010 ADRL Tour for their racing performance, record-breaking runs and event participation. Only the top eight drivers in each class advanced and last weekend’s double-race (Dragstock VII and the Ohio Drags IV) at Summit Motorsports Park was the final opportunity to earn a spot into the field.  The points leader in each class also receives a first-round bye.

NORWALK, OH – Two of the top competitors in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) showed exactly why they  reign atop their respective classes at Saturday’s Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags IV.

Extreme Pro Stock driver Cary Goforth and Pro Extreme Motorcycle rider Ashley Owens both won for the second time in two nights to stay No. 1 in their divisions, capping off a memorable double-race weekend at Summit Motorsports Park.  “To get two wins is just really, really awesome,” said Goforth, who won Dragstock VII on Friday. “Awesome won’t even cover it. This is just wonderful. You always dream about something like this, but you don’t always get it.”

Two other drivers got a chance to celebrate for the first time in the ADRL, as Mick Snyder (Pro Extreme) and Jim Laurita (Pro Nitrous) both picked up their first career ADRL wins on Saturday.  Chuck Ulsch picked up his third win of the 2010 season in Extreme 10.5 and Morgan Benfield got the win in Pro Junior Dragster.

NORWALK, OH – Just moments after watching his son, Ty, win in Pro Junior Dragster at the completion of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Simpson Dragstock VII on Friday, Todd Tutterow had only one thought before his Pro Extreme final.

I just knew I needed to do my job,” said Tutterow, the 2009 World Champion.

Double Duty for Team Titan In St. Louis

Courtesy of Team Titan

Orlando, Fl – With the past few ADRL events being double-headers, it is hard to believe that all this action is being packed into one weekend… again.  It’s almost getting difficult to keep up with what races are what, who has qualified, and which races are raced which days. So, here is the rundown for Titan’s August 6-7th ADRL weekend.

Friday was the make-up day for the Independence Drags held in Topeka last month. The Scion qualified #1 for this race, with a 3.986 at 185.61mph, so the crew was eager to finish it off strong. Round one of eliminations was a bye run so we’ll pick things up in the second. In round two, Gary lines up with Judd Coffman. Coffman ended up rolling the beam, Gary ended up super loose, but at the end, it was the Scion that moved on.

In round 3 it was Dustin Miller’s turn to dance, but it was Gary White and the Titan Scion that was to set the tune. Miller got a big starting line advantage, but ran into problems down the track. The Scion blasted down the track with a 4.047 at 184.02, posting the fastest time of the day. In the finals, Titan was set to face-off with Jeff Naiser. Gary blasted out of the gate first and never looked back. Naiser ran into some trouble half way down the track and had to shut it off. The Scion posted another fast time of the day with a 4.003 at 185.79.

Titan Motorsports Does the Texas Two Step

Coutesy of Titan Motorsports

Baytown, TX – As if running a double header weekend wasn’t going to heat things up as it is, the weather in Texas decided to contribute in this department as well, bringing track temps as high as 150*F! The weekend’s festivities began with the completion of the canceled ADRL Dragpalooza VI from back in March. As things stood, we were to resume our #3 qualifying position ran in March, with all elimination races to count toward qualifying for the Texas Drags, to be held the very next day.

The first elimination round for Dragpalooza had Gary White lined up against Patrick Collins. The Scion spun off the line, and Collins shook. Gary tried to reel him in but left a rod on the track in the process, ending in a first round elimination right off the bat. Not exactly the result Team Titan imagined going into the weekend. But that’s racing.

Rain Postpones Finish of ADRL Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka

Courtesy of ADRL

TOPEKA, KS — Inclement weather forced the postponement of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Hardee’s Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka on Saturday.

After several rain delays throughout the day, ADRL President and CEO Kenny Nowling called for a postponement near the end of the first round of final eliminations.  “Mother Nature frowned on us and we felt the better option was to get the racers and fans home safely,” Nowling said. “Safety is paramount and unfortunately we can’t complete this event today.”

The event will be completed at the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags III on August 7-8 at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill, just outside of St. Louis.

The completion of final eliminations of the Independence Drags will take place on Friday, with the Gateway Drags to be completed the next day.

Castellana One of Five Leaders at ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV

Courtesy of ADRL

TOPEKA, KS — Mike Castellana was simply looking for one good run in Pro Nitrous on Friday at the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka. When that came on his very first run, Castellana delivered in an even bigger way to cap his evening under the lights. Castellana and his ’69 Camaro wowed the energetic crowd with his third qualifying run, staying in first after three sessions with a pass of 3.89 at 192.28 miles per hour.
It was significant that Castellana had two in a class where most drivers struggled to get one on a day where track conditions proved difficult to solve.

“I think we had a better handle on things,” Castellana said. “It was kind of hit-or-miss for a lot of people, but we’ve got a good handle on this car. When you got something good going, you don’t want to change too much.”
Other top qualifiers after Friday’s three sessions include Frankie Taylor in Pro Extreme, Ashley Owens in Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Pete Berner in Extreme Pro Stock and Todd Moyer in Extreme 10.5. Castellana’s solid performance on Friday gives him some breathing room heading into Saturday’s final qualifying session as well.
