An open letter to the ADRL community from ADRL President Kenny Nowling part two

Lake St. Louis, MO —In light of recent statements made on various media outlets, I feel that the ADRL community deserves a more in-ADRL Testing Memphisdepth account of what has transpired over the course of 2013 that led us to this unfortunate situation. Before getting started I want to personally thank every ADRL racer, team owner, crewmember, sponsor, track partner and fan who has called, sent texts and sent emails offering their support during this difficult transition. It is that support and loyalty that drives me each and every day.

Shortly after reacquiring one hundred percent ownership of the ADRL in December of 2012, my partner Jack Switzer and I sat down and worked up a purse structure for the 2013 ADRL Tour. After weeks of planning and careful consideration we arrived at a figure of $611,200.00 to be paid out over eight events.

An open letter to the ADRL community from ADRL President Kenny Nowling

Lake St. Louis, MO — I think by now most everyone that follows the ADRL is aware that a significant issue has arisen regarding the Kenny Nowlingpayout of the 2013 ADRL Battle for the Belts. I want to be clear before proceeding that I take full responsibility for the current situation that is facing us. I also want to assure everyone who participated in the 2013 Battle for the Belts that they will receive one hundred percent of what they are owed.

I have been involved in promoting drag racing since 2002 and prior to Friday, September 6, 2013, had never advertised or held a race that I did not have the monies to cover. During those twelve years I have raised and paid out several million dollars to racers. As proud as I am of that, I am equally ashamed of what transpired on September 6.

Regardless of what promises were made by our sponsor leading up to September 6, I should have cancelled the event. I spoke with our sponsor at the event on that day and was given instructions to not cancel the event and was repeatedly assured that we would receive one hundred percent of the prize monies immediately. Holding that event was simply the biggest mistake of my career.

Hossler Scores Pro Extreme World Championship & ADRL World Finals Victory in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – For Alex Hossler, driver of Sheikh Khalid Al Thani’s Al-Anabi Racing Pro Extreme Camaro, it will be very difficult to top his weekend at Houston’s Royal Purple Raceway that included a single day of racing when he not only won the race – the ADRL’s prestigious World Finals IX – but also the Pro Extreme world championship.

Ultimately, the ultra-close points chase came down to a quarterfinal round matchup between Hossler and perennial frontrunner Tommy D’Aprile. It was over almost as soon as it started, though, as Hossler was off the starting line first with a .026-second reaction time and never trailed, taking the win and clinching the world title with a 3.583-second, 214.69mph pass. From there Hossler would defeat Terry Leggett and Jason Scruggs to put a bow on a career-defining weekend.

Smith & Moon Score Battle For the Belts Victory for Al Anabi Racing

ROCKINGHAM, NC – For Von Smith and Howard Moon, driver and crew chief for Al Anabi Racing’s Pro Extreme ’69 Camaro, winning Smith & Moonthe coveted ADRL Battle For the Belts was a matter of execution. Three rounds of racing were all that separated them from the gold 12-pound championship belt and $50,000 cash prize, but it would be three rounds of racing amongst the quickest-and-fastest full-bodied cars on the planet.

In the opening stanza, Smith faced off with reigning ADRL Pro Extreme champion Mick Snyder. Smith was off the line first with a near-perfect .010-second reaction time and never waivered, streaking to the win with a 3.627-second, 211.53mph elapsed time in the Jerry Bickel-built doorslammer. The semifinal round pitted Smith against points leader Joey Martin, but points were of little consequence as the veteran driver out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee again was off the starting line first with a .021-second light and took the win with a 3.612/212.06mph effort as Martin was forced to abort.

“Stevie Fast” Jackson Scores Pro Nitrous Victory at ADRL Summer Drags XI

MARTIN, MI – After just the first round of qualifying for the ADRL Summer Drags it was clear that the Pro Nitrous eliminator was Steve Jackson - Martin 2013shaping up to be one for the ages. By the end of four sessions, it was undeniable that assembled on the property of US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, were sixteen of the quickest, fastest and most competitive nitrous oxide-injected doorslammers on the planet.

Amongst those heavy hitters was relative newcomer to Pro Nitrous competition, “Stevie Fast” Jackson – a name well known in Outlaw Drag Radial racing circles – who qualified 4th in the field with a 3.808-second elapsed time in the Al-Anabi Racing ’68 Camaro.

“There were a lot of bad ass, fast hot rods there this weekend,” said Jackson. “When we got there, we knew we had a good car – a consistent car. We made 6 runs on Thursday and Friday in testing and went between 3.83 and 3.86. When we saw everyone really start hauling the mail on Saturday – Mike Castellana, Jim Laurita, John Hall, Bob Rahaim, everybody ran good – Billy [Stocklin, crew chief] and I got together and talked about it, and decided not to push the car to run that fast on Saturday because we knew the sun was going to come out on Sunday. We knew we’d get our chance to go fast on race day, but we didn’t want to get into one of those deals where you get the car so jacked up trying to go fast in qualifying that you lose your handle on it.”
