Demke Brings the Big Mo to Phoenix Regionals

Courtesy of Penn Rite Racing

Phoenix, AZ – Momentum is defined as a strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events. After taking the Top Alcohol Dragster win in Pomona, Chris Demke and his Peen Rite Team are bringing that momentum into the Regional race at Firebird Raceway this weekend. The Regional event in Phoenix is the first in the newly formed racing series that replaced the divisional system.

“It allows us to go to more national events, which is good for us,” said Demke. “It also means more competitors.”

The Regional race will have the heavy hitters in attendance. That sits fine with the Maddern Racing team, as they won here from 2004-2006. The car has been serviced and the trailer loaded with more 801 Racing Oil with CleanBoost Technology.  After a bit of tire shake, the RacePak computer has a few new connectors. The car is ready to race, and the Peen Rite Team can’t wait to get it back in motion.

Nitro Harley Star Turner Brings New Ride

Courtesy of IHRA

NORWALK, OH – He may not have won the championship in 2011, but Jay Turner has never felt better entering a season.

After finishing a close second to friend and longtime competitor Steve Dorn last season, Turner is determined to improve on his performance – and the performance of his entire Nitro Harley operation – and hopefully come away with the coveted Nitro Jam championship trophy using a few tricks up his sleeve.

“We had a great season last year, unfortunately it just wasn’t enough,” Turner said. “Steve had a great bike and pushed us really hard and while we had more wins last season, he was more consistent and that was the difference in the end. But we have a wild card that we plan on using this year that we can’t wait to show the fans.”

While Dorn may have taken the 2011 Nitro Harley championship in the class’ first trip down the IHRA quarter-mile in several years, Turner holds the status as the veteran of the group with multiple wins dating back to the last time the IHRA hosted the nitromethane-fueled motorcycle class fulltime. And with another full year under his belt, Turner has high hopes that 2012 will be his year and looks forward to another spirited competition against Dorn and the rest of the Nitro Harley class beginning next month when he unveils his new ride that many are already labeling a game-changer in the class.

New power for Dordan Motorsports Top Dragster in 2012 Quick 32 Season

Courtesy of Quick 32

SHAKESPEARE, ON  – After a rookie season in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, the Dordan Motorsports Top Dragster team decided to increase its odds of winning with a new engine to provide more go on the drag strip.

“Last year we were getting used to the car, but were always in the middle of the pack,” said team driver Travis Gueguen. “We went to ERD (Engine Research & Development) and got a new engine for the car and are hoping to run in the 6.8-second range.”

Owned by Travis’ parents Dan and Sue Gueguen, the Chrome-Worx Signature Series Top Dragster will now be powered by a 665-cubic inch big-block Chevy from the shops of Carl Spiering’s ERD. The car will continue to run an Abruzzi Racing two-speed Powerglide-based transmission with a Barry Grant fuel pump feeding a pair of 1150 Ultra HP Dominators that sit on top of a CFE Sheet Metal intake with Speedtech Nitrous. The nitrous system will be employed for 2012 if the team feels it is necessary.

“Last year was a complete new venture for us, and I believe we achieved our goals,” said Dan Gueguen, Travis’ father and crew chief for the team. “We are hoping for more consistency this season, and with the new and more powerful engine we should be more competitive. There will be nitrous on the car, but we will use it only if we think it is needed.”

Dan Gueguen will crew chief for the team, which includes Sue, Duane and Troy Gueguen, along with Mike Hill and Dave Snodgrass.

CHANDLER, AZ– After a long off-season preparing for 2012, Kenny Gilmour Motorsports is ready to take on the competition with new driver Greg Hunter. ExactAir Compliance Systems will be the primary backer of the Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based Top Alcohol Dragster team.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to join this team,” said Hunter. “It is easy to get excited to drive this car by the enthusiasm and desire to win of everyone on this team. They truly have what it takes to field a competitive car and I think I will learn a lot from this group. My wife, Staci, and I are looking forward to the first race inPhoenix!”

Greg Hunter has been racing down the quarter-mile since 1994, first with a stock Ford Mustang GT. Hunter attended Frank Hawley’sDragRacingSchoolin 2003, where he earned his Top Alcohol Funny Car license. TORONTO, ON – “Last year we were out to have fun. Now it’s time to be serious.” John Orfanidis had an up and down year in the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products in 2011. Riding his Pro Bike Suzuki, he qualified number one at five of the six PBSS events, and started second in the sixth event, turning times just under eight seconds at over 165 mph.

But the team had problems when it came to eliminations, and Orfanidis said that will be addressed when he takes to the track this season.

“We’re looking to a better season,” he said. “We have to be more prepared mentally. “The bike has been freshened up, and should perform some good numbers.”
