TAD’s Greg Hunter Adding to ExactAir Team’s Vegas History

LAS VEGAS, NV – A two-month break from racing is over for Greg Hunter and his ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster Greg Hunter - Kenny Gilmour Motorsportsteam. The Kenny Gilmour-owned team will return to the site of Greg’s TAD debut and first round win, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, for the Toyota NHRA Nationals, Oct. 25-27. The race is the first of three in a row for the Canadian group.

“The team spent our off-weekends preparing for these three races. We didn’t have the greatest performance at Brainerd. We were missing one of our most important crew members, Cal. He’ll be with us for the next three races though, so I feel confident. Our whole team – Gary, Johnny, Del, Kenny, Darlene, and my wife Staci – is excited to race in Vegas again. We always have a lot of friends and customers join us, adding to the fun Vegas atmosphere,” said Greg, who is in just his second season in TAD.

Hunter Optimistic About Brainerd Debut

BRAINERD, MN – Despite a first round loss at his most recent event in Seattle, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter is optimistic as Greg Hunter - Kenny Gilmour Motorsportshe heads to the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, August 16-18. His results at the Northwest Nationals might not show it, but Greg’s ExactAir Compliance Systems dragster is showing promise.

“We were really happy with how the car was running at Seattle. Obviously we were disappointed that we lost first round, though. We had a small issue – the car didn’t run what we thought it should have run first round. We had a bunch of new stuff on the car. It responded to everything we did so the team and I were very happy about that. We’re going to take that information to Brainerd and tune it up a bit,” Hunter said, who qualified in the middle of the field with a 5.38 and fell to event finalist Garrett Bateman first round.

Hunter Entering Northwest Nationals with Improved ExactAir Dragster

SEATTLE, WA – ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter enters this weekend’s O’Reilly NHRA G Hunter David Smith photoNorthwest Nationals with an improved tune-up in his Kenny Gilmour-owned blown alcohol car. The ExactAir dragster previously reached the finals at the team’s last race, but the Canadian group decided to make some adjustments to prepare for the Seattle national event.

“After racing in Denver we found some things that we wanted to improve. We made the improvements and went testing back home in Alberta. We tested at Medicine Hat, where I first started racing years ago. It was awesome to run the alcohol car in front of our friends from the early days of my racing career. We also test at Edmonton, where we got to see some family and friends. It was a lot of fun but testing didn’t go as planned, so we went back and made some more improvements. Now we’re ready to go to Seattle,” Hunter said.

Hunter Looking to Rebound at Denver’s Thunder on the Mountain

MORRISON, CO – Following a two-month break since his last race, Greg Hunter and his ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol G Hunter David Smith photoDragster team is eager to return to the competition this weekend. The team has taken a hard look at their tune-up after early exits at the season-opening races at Pomona and Las Vegas. Now Hunter and his Kenny Gilmour Motorsports group want to put their adjustments to the test at the Grease Monkey Thunder on the Mountain Lucas Oil Series regional event and Bandimere Speedway, June 14-16.

“We had some time off after the last race in Vegas. We were a little disappointed with our performance at that race, so we went through everything on the car. I think we learned a few things that should improve our performance at Denver this weekend. We got some good data when we ran here for the first time last year. That should also help us run better than we have all year,” said Hunter, who is racing in his second year in TAD after switching from an alcohol-burning Funny Car.

Hunter Continues Quest for Victory in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV – Despite a first round loss at the NHRA Lucas Oil Series regional event at The Strip last weekend, Greg Hunter and the G Hunter David Smith photoExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster team will power through to the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals this weekend, April 4-7. The Canadian group’s goal remains the same – steadily improve their performance at every race. Their showing at the regional event wasn’t horrible – Hunter qualified 6th and lost first round, 5.53 to 5.60 – but it wasn’t what Hunter and his Kenny Gilmour Motorsports team were looking for.

“We were pretty happy with our first run out of the box, 5.463 at 264 MPH. We worked on tuning it up and making it go faster but it didn’t quite go how we thought it would. It broke a lifter on the last qualifier and hurt a camshaft so we changed that motor going into first round. We set it up to run close to the 5.46 again but it just went weak. We found a couple issues in the motor during the week between races so we’re confident that performance will be back up to where we feel it should be. I hope to be back in the five-thirties at the national event,” Greg claimed.

Hunter Begins Two Weeks of Racing in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV – A month has passed since Greg Hunter and the Kenny Gilmour-tuned ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol G Hunter burnoutDragster last raced down a quarter-mile racetrack. A disappointing first round loss at the season-opening Winternationals is behind them and they’re ready to start fresh at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Series regional event at The Strip at LVMS.

“We’ve had lots of time to go over everything and make sure the car is ready for two weeks of racing in Vegas. There was an unfortunate parts failure that cost us a first round win at Pomona so we made sure that issue was cleared up. We’re really happy with the direction that the new motor combination is going. We’re confident that it’ll run well and help us qualify well and win a few rounds,” claimed Hunter, a sophomore in the TAD class.

POMONA, CA – This weekend’s O’Reilly NHRA Winternationals marks the start of Greg Hunter’s second season in Top Alcohol Dragster Greg Hunter - Chicagocompetition. The former TAFC driver enjoyed a productive rookie season in 2012; the new driver-team combo of Greg and the Kenny Gilmour Motorsports team made progress every race weekend, steadily improving their performances. Now they’re ready to continue that trend during the new season.

“I’m really looking forward to this season after getting the first year under my belt. We got a lot of bugs worked out of the car last year and learned what it takes to run at this level. The guys are excited to get back to the track, back to turning the wrenches and working the tools. We’re expecting to have a consistent car that can go A-to-B and win some rounds this year,” said Hunter.

2012 was an exciting year for Greg. He drove the Kenny Gilmour-tuned ExactAir Top Alcohol Dragster to four round wins, including one at his debut race, the Las Vegas national event. Hunter’s career-best numbers improved after almost every race, ending with a 5.38 best at the fall Las Vegas race.

POMONA, CA – Even after a full season of racing in the fastest “Sportsman” category in the NHRA, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter enters the NHRA Finals just as enthusiastic as ever. He’s going into the race with his ExactAir car running at its best. Racing in the area where the American hot rodding scene started just adds to the excitement.

“We’re excited about racing in Southern California. SoCal is where hot rodding and drag racing itself began. This is also where I went to watch my first race, the 1994 World Finals. Going to that race changed my life. Now we’re going into 2012 World Finals with a car capable of qualifying well and winning rounds. Looking at the entry list, we’ll be racing with a lot of great cars, but we’re up for the challenge,” said Hunter, a TAD rookie who formerly drove a family-owned Alcohol Funny Car.

LAS VEGAS, NV – Following their career-best performance at the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals, Greg Hunter and the ExactAir Top Alcohol Dragster team are back at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to squeeze more speed out of the 3,000+ horsepower blown alcohol dragster. The data acquired at last weekend’s race will help them do just that.

“We have a good tune-up in it now. We’ll be able to look back at the 5.38 run data to help us run as well and better this weekend. We learned our lesson on what caused the parts failure first round. We’ll cross our T’s and dot our I’s,” Greg said.

The Kenny Gilmour Motorsports team was very happy last weekend when the car ran a career-best 5.38 at 267 mph in the warm afternoon qualifying session. Although their performance didn’t show it, Greg says the frequent temperature changes make racing atLas Vegasa challenge.

By the end of the event, they had accomplished three of those goals. The ExactAir TAD qualified 9th, running 5.38 at 267 mph.

“That run was just awesome. I knew it was strong, but I wasn’t sure it was that good. I thought it was maybe a forty until they told me at the end of the track that it was a 5.38. Everyone was high-fiving; the whole crew was pumped about that,” said Hunter.

Greg started qualifying with a strong 5.45, which put him in the #4 spot after the first session was complete. The car stepped up in the second session, running the 5.38 in the afternoon heat. The team elected to skip the third and final qualifying session to prepare for their first round match-up with Randy Meyer. Once the field was set, Hunter was qualified 9th.
