Smith and Moon Optimistic Following Pre-Norwalk Test Session

NORWALK, OH – While the weather forecast for this weekend’s 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals doesn’t appear Von Smithto be playing into their favor, the Pro Modified tag team of driver Von Smith and crew chief Howard Moon couldn’t be more optimistic. The Al-Anabi Racing Pro Mod team enjoyed an extremely positive test session on Martin, Michigan’s US 131 Motorsports Park earlier this week, and they’re hoping that progress will translate into success in Norwalk.

“If the weather will hold out for us, I think we’re in good shape,” says Moon. “Things went really well in testing; we made a lot of progress with this new car. We’re probably going to have some curveballs thrown at us with the conditions this weekend – possibly lose a session of qualifying due to rain – so we’re going to have to be on it from the start.”

Al-Anabi Racing driver, Von Smith, who like Moon is based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, feels equally good about the team’s chances in Norwalk.

“Testing went great and you’ve got to believe that it’s going to make a difference going into the race having made some good laps, feeling like you’ve got something to build on,” says Smith. “Now, all we can ask for is a little bit of sunshine so we can get out there and get on with it.

“We’re making good progress with this torque converter setup, but it all boils down to making runs,” continues Smith. “But if we put this Al-Anabi Camaro in the final on Sunday, we’ll have made as many as we need, and, of course, that’s the plan. This group of guys is second-to-none and there’s nothing I’d like more, personally, than to put this thing in the winner’s circle for them and Sheikh Khalid – they deserve it.”

Qualifying gets underway for the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at 6:00 PM. A final qualifying session will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM with the opening round of eliminations slated for 4:00 PM. Final eliminations will continue Sunday at approximately 2:30PM.
