UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA — American Drag Racing League (ADRL) teams have nearly reached the half-way point in the 2010 season, with the ever-coveted “Speedtech Battle for the Belts” quickly approaching. With only five scheduled races left before the ADRL World Finals (including the remainder of ADRL Dragpalooza VI rescheduled for July 23-24), Team Aruba currently sits in 13th place in the Extreme Pro Stock division with 495 points.
ADRL teams traveled to U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan for the ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI. “We were excited to sit in 3rd after qualifying,” says Trevor Eman, driver for Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) team, Team Aruba. “After such a long break from the track, we were especially determined to secure a top-qualifying spot.” Eman faced off against Mark Martino in the first round of eliminations, hammering down an exceptional 0.010 RT and reaching a top speed of 175.39mph to take the win. “We had a great light,” says the Aruba.com XPS driver, Trevor Eman. “It was a really close race; striving to achieve a perfect light can really make all the difference in a race.”

Simmons ups Ante with New Engine Program for Quick 32 Series

ORILLIA, ONTARIO – With a new ERD engine program, Melanie Simmons is hoping to be a strong player in this year’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts. “We were disappointed we didn’t qualify for a couple of races last year,” said Simmons, who drives the Top Dragster of Toyrific Racing. “But we’ve stepped up for this year.”
The 540-cubic inch Chevy engine has received a supercharger and related equipment from the shops of Carl Spiering’s Engine Research & Development (ERD) and the team is hoping the increase in power will get the LJ Red dragster down the track quicker.
“We didn’t qualify and sat out a couple of races,” Simmons explained about the team’s woes last year. “That’s why we’ve upgraded the engine.” The car was previously fueled through an Enderle Fuel Injection system.
Davis Does NHRA Unleashed in Atlanta
By Ian Tocher
COMMERCE, GA – Participating in the National Hot Rod Association’s inaugural NHRA Unleashed event at Atlanta Dragway, Suwanee, Georgia’s Ronnie Davis qualified his 1963 Corvette in first-place for the highly competitive Dixie Pro Mod class.
Davis followed up with a dominating win in the opening round of eliminations, but his day ended prematurely when something in his nitrous-injected, 822 cubic-inch engine broke during preparations for a semi-final race against Robert Mathis.
“It just started vibrating really hard in the middle of the burnout, so I just shut it off,” Davis explained. “I thought at first the timing belt had failed, but it’s something else; I’ll have to take it apart and figure it out when I get home.”
Davis was hoping to repeat his performance from last month at Rockingham (NC) Dragway, where he won the International Hot Rod Association’s (IHRA’s) Spring Nitro Jam Elite 8 race for Top Sportsman entries.
Carpenter Disappointed with Another Early Exit

MARTIN, MI – Needing to go rounds after a first round loss at last month’s ADRL Speedtech US Drags, Pro Nitrous veteran Charles Carpenter looked to be in prime position to do just that at the ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.
After a solid 3.956 effort in Friday’s final qualifying session put Carpenter third heading into eliminations, the team failed to capitalize on the opportunity and suffered a first round loss to Thomas Myers. Carpenter had the advantage off the starting line, but his freshly-painted ’55 Chevy went into violent tire shake early in the run, forcing Carpenter to lift off the throttle as Myers took his first round win of the season with a 4.271.
“We were just too aggressive,” Carpenter said. “The track conditions changed from Friday to Saturday more than we anticipated and we didn’t back it down enough. The car went about halfway to the 60-foot mark and blew the tires off.”
Hernandez Among Five Winners at ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI

MARTIN, MI — The added pressure, expectations and attention that comes with landing a new major sponsor seems to have brought out the best in Josh Hernandez.
A race after advancing to the final in Richmond while debuting his new Fight Me MMA sponsorship, Hernandez and his ’57 Chevy took it a step further on Saturday, winning in Pro Extreme at the ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.
“To come out with a new sponsor and within two races have a win, that’s what we’re in it for,” Hernandez said. “To be in that winner’s circle, nothing makes me happier.
“I’m so happy for my guys. This is what we’ve been waiting for.”
It’s the seventh career win for Hernandez, but just the first this year in a loaded division.

Top Sportsman team on board with more power in Quick 32 Sportsman Series
PINE RIVER, ONTARIO (June 11, 2010) – With a bigger engine this season, Darrin Grubb has stepped up his team’s efforts in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
The Ontario-based Top Sportsman team has added a whole bunch of cubic inches to its 2004 Chevy Cavalier, and Grubb, who drives the Cavalier for Grubb Racing, said he has noticed a big difference.
“We’ve gone from running around 180 in the quarter to close to 195 now with the new engine,” said Grubb. “It is a nice, awesome ride.”
The team placed sixth in the Championship Point Award Series standings last season, highlighted with a Top Sportsman class victory during the June event at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.
Diedrich rolls into Sacramento to run with the “Outlaw’s” this weekend

Firebaugh, Ca – This Friday & Saturday Jay Diedrich will be attending the “Nitro Nite of Fire” event held at Sacramento Raceway to run with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association. This is the second WCOPMA event of the 2010 season and Diedrich is currently sitting in the number six spot in points after a first round red-lighting during the first event.
The first round loss was bittersweet, although, at the last WCOPMA event as the “Evil Outlaw” 1957 Chevy ran an incredible 249.47 MPH pass. This weekend Diedrich and the Firebaugh Express Racing team are looking for three things specifically. First they want to see 250+ MPH pop up on the scoreboard sometime during the weekend. Second, they want to run a 3.9x to the 1/8th-mile and lastly they would obviously like to end up in the winner’s circle at the end of the night and secure their first Pro Mod victory.

Elma, NY– With the help of Ford Racing and Dan Page Race Cars, Mike Janis will debut his new Eaton Aeroquip backed 2011 Ford Mustang at the 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ.
The new scheme for the team came about due to a contest run by Mike Janis Racing asking fans to design their new Mustang. With over 120 entries from around the globe, Peter Walters of the United Kingdom took home the grand prize with his rendering.
The team’s staff graphic designer, Justin Spencer of Competition Designs tweaked Walters’ design and then proceeded to design a completely new image for the team.
“Thank God for Justin,” said Mike Janis Racing’s PR man Rob Kozak. “Justin has put a ton of time and effort into this for us. His contributions to this team are above and beyond what anyone could imagine.” Continue reading
