Successful Testing at Crandall for Barklage Racing Team

SAINT LOUIS, MO (March 18, 2010) — With only one day left to prepare for the 2010 ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI, the Barklage Racing Team is wasting no time as they gear up for this Friday’s qualifying rounds at Houston Raceway Park. “We had a pretty good run at Crandall,” says Cody Barklage of Barklage Racing Team. “We ran a 3.71 at 200mph, so we were pretty happy with our performance.” Barklage Racing traveled from Lake Ozark, Missouri to Crandall, Texas, to test their Pontiac Firebird at Dallas Raceway. “Everything went on without a hitch,” recalls Cody.  “We’re so excited for Houston. We finally feel ready.”

A self-proclaimed ‘concrete palace’, Dallas Raceway offers an optimal environment for testing, hosting a ¼ mile track to provide plenty of space for testing and tuning drag cars. The track proved to provide excellent testing grounds for Team Barklage. “It felt great to run a 3.71 after such a long winter,” said Cody. “It had been quite a while since I had last driven. It felt great.”

Carpenter Aims to Remain Atop Pro Nitrous Standings in Houston

BAYTOWN, TX – After clawing his way back into contention at the end of 2009, Charles Carpenter is aiming to remain atop the American Drag Racing League Pro Nitrous points standings in 2010. That mission begins at Houston Raceway Park and this weekend’s Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI, where Carpenter will combine his vast experience with an upgraded combination under the hood of his iconic ’55 Chevy   to take on the incredibly tough Pro Nitrous division.

After a brief session of preseason testing, Carpenter is ready to get back to racing action.

“I’ve never been one for testing,” admitted the 37-year drag racing veteran. “I’m all about the pressure of the race environment. I’m not even that excited about qualifying usually. But when it comes time for eliminations, my whole mindset changes and I can’t think of anything but winning the next round and winning the race. Winning is everything for me.”

2010 a Big Year for Team Aruba; Ready to Battle at Houston

SAINT LOUIS, MO — Look out, Houston! Team Aruba is set to explode the Houston Raceway track this year at the 2010 Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI in late March. In an extreme game of ‘now you see them, now you don’t’, Team Aruba will thrill drag racing fans as they tear down the 1/8th mile track at Houston Raceway Park in their colorful, Caribbean-inspired car on March 20th. Trevor Eman of Team Aruba is excited for the big event. “We just tested down in Bradenton, Florida, running a 4.06 on the 1/8th mile track.” The team also ran their best elapsed time of 6.26 at 223mph on the ¼ mile track. Trevor, looking forward to Dragpalooza VI, is optimistic about the 2010 season. “Our run at Bradenton makes us very competitive in the Extreme Pro Stock category. We’re feeling pretty confident right now.”

While in Houston, Team Aruba will be observing Aruba’s National Anthem and Flag Day, celebrating the ‘status aparte’ of Eman’s and Team Aruba’s home country of Aruba, which became a sovereign country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986. On Aruba’s National Anthem and Flag Day, businesses and schools are closed, allowing Aruba’s citizens to fully celebrate the national holiday. The small island will celebrate National Anthem and Flag Day on March 18th, through various celebrations, festivals, and a day off of work. To celebrate, Team Aruba will host a cookout while in Houston. “We’ll be having a cookout on Friday the 19th, after the last qualifying round of Extreme Pro Stock, to celebrate Aruba’s Flag Day. We’re inviting all Extreme Pro Stock teams and ADRL officials to our cookout to celebrate this joyful occasion with us.” Team Aruba will also be offering Aruba decals for fellow drivers to sport in support of Aruba’s heritage.

ADRL Starts 2010 Season in Houston

BAYTOWN, TX  Mar. 15, 2010 – Houston Raceway Park hosts its first major drag race of the year this weekend (Mar. 19-20), as the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) arrives for its 2010 season-opening ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen.

ADRL teams in five professional classes—Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock, Flowmaster Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme, the quickest and fastest eighth-mile “door cars” in the world—will converge on the Baytown, Texas, track from all across the country, bringing with them race vehicles equally at home in a car show as they are on the track. From a standing start they will cover the ADRL’s 660-foot race distance in as little as 3.6 seconds at speeds up to nearly 210 miles per hour.

Several new teams, drivers, cars and motorcycles will be making their ADRL national-event debuts at Dragpalooza VI, which actually represents the second of nine points-paying events toward the 2010 championship-deciding Speedtech Battle for the Belts due to the ADRL’s unique points system that applies the final race of each calendar year toward qualifying for the next season’s championship playoff.

Charles Carpenter Racing Welcomes DMP Awnings as Associate Sponsor

CHARLOTTE, NC – DMP Awnings, a division of Minnesota-based Dubbin Racing Products, has teamed up with Charles Carpenter Racing in an associate sponsorship role for the 2010 season. Not only will the DMP logo appear on Carpenter’s unmistakable Pro Nitrous ’55 Chevy, but a new DMP Awning will be outfitted to the Carpenter team’s rig.

The partnership was initially brought to life shortly after Carpenter’s devastating crash at the season-opening ADRL Dragpalooza V a year ago. Dubbin was one of the first to pitch in and offer to help Carpenter get back on track anyway he could, despite having never met him.

Now that Carpenter is back and poised to make a run at the ADRL Pro Nitrous championship in 2010, Dubbin has stepped up his support to help him achieve that goal. During their first face-to-face meeting at December’s Performance Racing Industry trade show, the two came to an agreement for DMP to become involved as an associate sponsor.

Janis Shakes Rust Off 1/4 Mile Tune Up; Heads to Gatornationals

Mike Janis gets ready for the Gatornationals.

March 11, 2010

Elma, NY – It’s been over a year since Mike Janis has made a full quarter mile pass in a legal Pro Mod. In that time Janis took home a couple wins on the 1/8 mile outlaw circuit but he’ll be the first to tell you there’s nothing like the quarter mile.

“We had a fantastic time last season. The people over there were the best part. They have a top notch program there and we were proud to be a small part of it but the lure of quarter mile racing always pulled at me. It’s something I’ll never shake I guess,” said Janis.

Not only will Janis be returning to the quarter mile; he’ll be joining the NHRA and their first ever sanctioned professional Pro Modified race.  For the past nine seasons, Pro Mod has been considered an exhibition class when run at NHRA events, but this weekend that all changes.  The 41st NHRA Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals will mark the first time in history that Pro Modifieds will be considered a professional NHRA category. The NHRA Gatornationals is the first of 10 events in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series.
