Titan Motorsports Does the Texas Two Step

Coutesy of Titan Motorsports

Baytown, TX – As if running a double header weekend wasn’t going to heat things up as it is, the weather in Texas decided to contribute in this department as well, bringing track temps as high as 150*F! The weekend’s festivities began with the completion of the canceled ADRL Dragpalooza VI from back in March. As things stood, we were to resume our #3 qualifying position ran in March, with all elimination races to count toward qualifying for the Texas Drags, to be held the very next day.

The first elimination round for Dragpalooza had Gary White lined up against Patrick Collins. The Scion spun off the line, and Collins shook. Gary tried to reel him in but left a rod on the track in the process, ending in a first round elimination right off the bat. Not exactly the result Team Titan imagined going into the weekend. But that’s racing.

Double-Win Weekend for Three ADRL Competitors

Courtesy of ADRL

BAYTOWN, TX — For three American Drag Racing League (ADRL) drivers, winning once this weekend at Houston Raceway Park (HRP) wasn’t enough. For Pro Extreme driver Joshua Hernandez, one rousing victory in front of a boisterous hometown crowd proved to be plenty.

After winning the ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen, which was completed at HRP on Friday after being postponed in March, Pro Nitrous driver Rickie Smith, Extreme 10.5 standout Billy Glidden and Extreme Pro Stock’s John Montecalvo all made it a two-win weekend by coming up victorious at Saturday’s ADRL UTI Inaugural Texas Drags.

Hernandez and Ashley Owens (Pro Extreme Motorcycle) pulled out the other two class wins on Saturday, with Hernandez and his ’57 Fight Me MMA Chevy bringing the crowd to its feet on several occasions.

Taylor Takes Hometown Race, One of Five Winners at ADRL’s Dragpalooza VI

Courtesy of ADRL

BAYTOWN, TX — Frankie Taylor would have taken a win anywhere after waiting far too long for his second career American Drag Racing League (ADRL) victory in Pro Extreme.

But to do it at his hometown track in front of a huge following of friends and family meant that much more for the Houston-area native on Friday.

The “Mad Man” debuted his new ’05 jet black Corvette at Houston Raceway Park (HRP) for the completion of the ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen, which was postponed in March, and it made an immediate impact.

Taylor beat fellow Texas native Gaylen Smith in the PX finals, running a 3.76 at 200 miles per hour to get his second career win and one he won’t soon forget.

Diedrich set event low ET; looses in semi-finals

Courtesy of Firebaugh Express Racing

Bakersfield, Ca – The third event for the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s (WCHRA) 2010 schedule was held last weekend, July 16-17, at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California. For the Firebaugh Express Racing team it was the second weekend racing in a row, the previous weekend Jay Diedrich won the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association event in Woodburn, Oregon…so the team was on a roll and looking for another great weekend of racing.

The WCHRA events in the summer months are rough since they are all night races and stretch well past midnight and temperatures are still in the 90 degree range. The first of 3 qualifying passes began around 8:00pm Friday night and was an uneventful session as no one made it down the track from A-to-B under power in the Pro Street class, Diedrich ended up in the 3rd spot. The team had to sit out the second session as they found a problem during the warm-up and did not have time to get it fixed. At the end of the second qualifying session Diedrich was sitting in the 5th qualifying spot.

Nothing but problems for the Dan Myers Racing team in Oregon

Coutesy of Dan Myers Racing

San Diego, Ca – Dan Myers got the long haul award as he drove 24 hours total to get from his home in Ramona, Ca (near San Diego) to Woodburn, Oregon (near Portland). He was the first Pro Mod team to roll in the gates and the first to leave…Sunday morning.

There were three qualifying passes scheduled for Saturday. On the first pass the team wanted to get from A-to-B under power to acquire some data for a race track they had no data for. They successfully made it down on the first pass with a 6.68, nothing to write home about but it was a starting place to go forward from.

On the second qualifying pass is where the problems started. Dan was on a low 6.40 or high 6.30 pass when he started to feel a vibration from the engine, which is never a good thing. He was quick to lift off the throttle but not quick enough as a rod had exited out of the side of the block.

Dragstory.com Introduces Event Text Messaging Service

BAYTOWN, TX – Always looking to be the innovator in live coverage, Dragstory.com will be testing a new text alert messaging system at this weekend’s American Drag Racing League event at Houston Raceway Park.

“We realize folks have other commitments during the many hours these events are running and may not be able to catch all of the coverage during the weekend,” stated Dragstory.com editor Mark Walter.  “This is the perfect tool to help us keep folks as up to date as possible with the latest news and happenings at any event we cover.”

The initial plan is to send text messages when the classes are called to the lanes or there is any significant event such as a top elapse time or mph run.  We will keep the messages to a minimum; just remember you are responsible for any charges by your cell phone provider.

Carpenter Trying for a Texas Two-Step in Houston

BAYTOWN, TX – With a rough couple of months of competition that included three consecutive first round losses hopefully in the rearview mirror, Charles Carpenter is looking for a turnaround, beginning with this weekend’s inaugural ADRL Texas Drags at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX.

“We’ve got a lot riding on this weekend,” Carpenter said. “Not only are we here to attempt to qualify for and race in the inaugural Texas Drags, but we’ve also got the eliminations from the rained out Dragpalooza event to be contested during Friday’s qualifying. What better place to try to right the ship than where we set new career bests in E.T. and speed last time we were here? We’re shooting to double up and bring two trophies home in one weekend.”

Carpenter is hoping getting back on familiar grounds will help him find the edge that has been missing over the last three events.
