Myers Unveils New Look and Attitude for 2011 Season

Courtesy of Dan Myers Racing

San Diego, CA – Dan Myers has been busy this offseason. After being in the chase last year for the 2010 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association points’ battle and finishing in the top 5 in the number 4 spot, he looks to improve on that in the 2011 season with some new additions over the winter.

First, and the most drastic, is the addition of the screw blower poking out the hood and almost over the roof of his 1957 Chevy Cameo truck. Dan was the highest placed driver in the 2010 WCOPMA points standings that did not use a screw blower but he cracked and ditched his roots blower for 2011 and picked up this D-Rotor screw blower. Helping him put all this new power to the ground will be a new lock up style clutch.

San Diego, Ca Dan Myers Racing will be making the trek to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to compete in the toughest Pro Street class at the 6th annual Street Car Super Nationals. Myers’ and his team have competed at the SCSN event the last 2 years. In 2008 Dan made it to the 3rd round of eliminations in the 32-car field and in 2009 he narrowly missed the 6.53 bump spot with a 6.58 best pass.

This year Dan is looking to be running in the 6.25-6.35 range and with engine tuning help from Lonnie Houde and chassis assistance from Bob Bunker Jr. he believes that it is possible. On Thursday Dan will be letting his son, Brandon Myers, make some license passes in the blown alcohol 1957 Chevy Cameo Truck. Then for the rest of the event (Friday-Sunday) Dan says “Dad will show him how it’s done!”

Dan Myers Racing qualifies for WCOPMA event at Denver Super Chevy Show

Courtesy of DMR

San Diego, Ca Dan Myers recently completed the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s version of a “western swing” last weekend with his attendance at Bandimere Speedway during a Super Chevy Show event which the WCOPMA were booked in to headline.

On the first qualifying pass Dan made it down the track, in the 9,000+ feet of corrected elevation, with a 6.68 on an early lifting run. He had to abort the run around the 1,000 foot mark as one of the welds on his dry sump oil tank split and put all the oil onto the track and shutoff area, in the process a piston was burnt and some other engine parts were hurt. The team had to weld the oil tank and fix the engine between qualifying rounds and failed to make the call for the second qualifying session.

Nothing but problems for the Dan Myers Racing team in Oregon

Coutesy of Dan Myers Racing

San Diego, Ca – Dan Myers got the long haul award as he drove 24 hours total to get from his home in Ramona, Ca (near San Diego) to Woodburn, Oregon (near Portland). He was the first Pro Mod team to roll in the gates and the first to leave…Sunday morning.

There were three qualifying passes scheduled for Saturday. On the first pass the team wanted to get from A-to-B under power to acquire some data for a race track they had no data for. They successfully made it down on the first pass with a 6.68, nothing to write home about but it was a starting place to go forward from.

On the second qualifying pass is where the problems started. Dan was on a low 6.40 or high 6.30 pass when he started to feel a vibration from the engine, which is never a good thing. He was quick to lift off the throttle but not quick enough as a rod had exited out of the side of the block.

Dan Myers Racing heads north to Woodburn, Oregon

Courtesy of Dan Myers Racing

Ramona, Ca – On the weekend of July 10-11 the Dan Myers Racing team will take their 1957 Chevy pick-up truck to Woodburn, Oregon to run with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association on the third stop of the association’s 2010 schedule.

Coming off a win at the last WCOPMA event in Sacramento a couple weeks back, Dan Myers and his team are hoping to bring some of that momentum and luck from Sacramento to Woodburn with them.

Dan is not afraid to admit that luck was on his side in Sacramento. After all, he won the event without making a full pass down the ¼-mile as every run was cut short for some reason or another. But Dan states “you cannot win a race without having at least one lucky round, thankfully for me I had three in a row.”

Dan Myers wins the Nitro Nite of Fire

Courtesy of Dan Meyers Racing

Sacramento, Ca – When the Dan Myers Racing team rolled into Sacramento Raceway Park they were looking for a 6.2x pass to pop up on the score board. Although that never happened throughout the weekend, a couple time slips showed 6.2 passes but unfortunate parts breakage or aborted runs on the top end prevented that from happening.

Myers qualified in the fifth position and in the first round would face Mike Leonard in his 1969 Chevelle. Dan would take the win on a holeshot with a peddling 6.79 to Leonard’s peddling 6.76. The top end MOV on the time slip showed a victory of .000, it was somewhere in the ten-thousandths of a second range, so close the track’s timing system didn’t record that far down.

In the second round Dan faced Sean Renteria. Renteria left way early flashing the red light giving the easy win to the final round to Myers who was on his way to a low 6.20 or high 6-teen pass where at 5.25-seconds into the run the throttle cable broke, still he stopped the clocks with a 6.47.

Dan Myers Racing looking for .20’s this weekend

Courtesy Dan Myers Racing

Ramona, Ca – After making many changes to his 1957 Cameo Pick-Up Truck in the winter months and having career best numbers the first time out this 2010 season Dan Myers is looking to improve some more this weekend as he plans on running with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association at Sacramento Raceway this June 11-12 weekend.

Last time out, the DMR team ran career best numbers with a 6.407@225.09. Much of that came from a lot of new parts and changes over the winter months. Starting with his chassis set-up, Dan Myers asked Bob Bunker Jr. with Bunker Racecars to set up his chassis as far as 4-link, pinion angle, rear steer, ect goes. Next he had Lonnie Houde with LHP Racing re-do his fuel system and he sent his blower to DMPE to have some modifications done and Darren (Mayer) suggested he change his camshaft set-up.
