Drag racing series welcomes Safety Initiative Program Partners

CAYUGA, ON – Safety is a most important aspect of auto racing, and protecting drivers and spectators is paramount.

PMRA - PBSS - Quick 32Three drag racing series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series, is pleased to work with the services of CODE4 Fire & Rescue, Cold Fire Canada, and Jones Brown Insurance, all part of the series’ Safety Initiative Program.

We are extremely pleased to have these very important groups with us, noted Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for all three series. They provide us with a safe and secure environment when our teams our racing, along with peace of mind.

Cold Fire Canada, CODE4 Fire & Rescue and JB Motorsport Insurance join Leaf Racewear & Safety Equipment as the preferred safety equipment supplier and continue to provide a vital role for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

Reichert, Bohl Win Indy North Central Opener

Indianapolis, IN – At the rain-plagued North Central opener in Indianapolis, five-time world champ Bill Reichert got his second win in Indy TAD Final 5-6-13three starts in Top Alcohol Dragster, and Andy Bohl became one of the few drivers in years to beat Frank Manzo in a Top Alcohol Funny Car final. Eliminations, already postponed a week, were run in their entirety on Monday after racers in all classes except the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car headed home Sunday night following a long day sitting in the rain.

In the Top Alcohol Dragster final, Reichert left within thousandths of Thacker in a battle of former U.S. Nationals winners and scored with a consistent 5.42 opposite Thacker’s close 5.46. “Bill’s no fun to race anymore,” Thacker said. “I’ve never seen anyone completely turn his reaction times around the way he has. If this was a couple of years ago, I would have beat him on a holeshot.”

Sydnie Hyde ready to do battle with Quick 32 Sportsman Series opener

STRATFORD, ON – Now entering her third year of racing in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Sydnie Hyde Sydnie Hydesaid she is getting anxious to return to the seat of her Top Dragster for quarter-mile competition.

I am really looking forward and am getting excited to get back out, said the teenager, who is a fulltime student during the off-season. We will be ready for Martin.

A former Junior Dragster driver, Hyde stepped into the powerful Hyde Racing Top Dragster two years ago and has been a quick study, running the car in the high six-second range at speeds of 200 mph. The 272-inch Spitzer Enterprises dragster is powered by a 740-cubic inch ERD (Engine Research & Development) engine with an ERD fuel system, and backed by a Coan Engineering Mega Glide transmission. The team is headed by owners Peter and Lisa Hyde, with Ron Hyde as crew chief. Also on the team are Spencer Hyde, Jack Hyde, and Murray Hyde. ERD’s Carl Spiering also plays a main role with the team.

Joliet, IL – For the first time ever, indoor seating options are now available for the Four Seasons Heating & Air Conditioning Burndown Burndown at Sundownat Sundown!, with the first 60 purchasers receiving a sneak peak of Club 66.

Club 66 is Route 66 Raceway’s newest premium club viewing area, which will launch in its entirety at the upcoming O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals Presented by SuperStart Batteries, June 27-30. Race fans will now have the opportunity to escape the heat in an air-conditioned indoor suite with a view straight down the drag strip on Saturday, June 8, as part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Weekend.

For $50, fans will receive an indoor seat plus a grandstand ticket, providing an indoor-outdoor option to come and go as they please and observe the drag strip from different areas. The first 60 fans to purchase indoor seating will receive seats in the new Club 66, a motorsports themed lounged with a prime view of the drag strip. Any fan who has already purchased a ticket can upgrade to indoor seating by paying $30. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

More power this season for reigning PMRA Pro Modified champion Eric Latino

WHITBY, ON – Pro Modified Racing Association champion Eric Latino will be returning to the popular Pro Modified series for 2013 Eric Latinowith some more power.

After competing in a recent NHRA meet, Latino and his Team Green was pleased with the showing of their 1969 Chevy Camaro, where they qualified seventh with a 5.92-second, 248-mph posting.

We have got one fast happy hot rod, noted Latino, who won the PMRA title by two points last season over Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario. We’ have been working on a new engine combination and it has produced some significant power.

Chuck Bradshaw’s Next Chapter

Gainesville, FL – A police officer of 11 years in Belmont, Calif., Chuck Bradshaw retired from the force in Feb. of 2012 after a pair of Chuck Bradshawshoulder surgeries.  The surgeries were so extensive that it forced him to immediately put an end to his sprint car racing days, a tough blow considering he had just finished building two identical sprint cars.

But the silver lining in everything was that it opened the door to return to drag racing.  Needing to fulfill his continued need for speed even after a pair of surgeries, Bradshaw chose drag racing, and needing to get back in the seat as quickly as possible, Bradshaw chose Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School.

Bradshaw attended the March class in Gainesville, Fla., received his Super Comp license and is now counting down the days to finishing his Top Dragster and going down the track.  “I was ready to go racing as soon as I got back,” Bradshaw said. “Going to the school was definitely worth it.

NEOPMA EVENT 2 THIS WEEKEND AT MIR’S 35th ANNUAL MOUNTAIN MOTOR NATIONALS

Mechanicsville, MD – The Northeast Outlaw Pro Mods (NEOPMA) Teams are ready to get back at it after the season kicked off at the NEOPMA/Mountain Motor FlyerMIR Door Wars three weeks ago with Jeff Miller leaving MIR the winner and points leader.

Last year’s 34th Annual Mountain Motor Nationals winners Ed Burnley (Nitrous Class) and Steve Drummond (Blown/Turbo Class) and all of the Pro Mod Teams that attend NEOPMA events this year will be battling to be the winner under a new format, one 16 car Pro Mod field combining Blowers, Nitrous and Turbos in one class that will only crown one champion per event.

The 35th Annual Mountain Motor Nationals will be one of the only races in the Country where you will see Pro Mods and Mountain Motor Pro Stocks compete together racing on the full quarter mile.

Mopar’s Allen Johnson Recognized as a Champion on and off the Drag Strip

Auburn Hills, MI – Winning the 2012 NHRA Pro Stock World Championship was a goal and a dream that Mopar’s Allen Johnson was Allen Johnsonable to achieve in grand style with years of hard work, dedication and determination. While the defense of his world title is already underway, with two national title wins already posted in the first quarter of the 2013 NHRA season, the impact of the championship combined with both his on and off-track accomplishments have garnered Johnson recognition outside of the world of drag racing and motorsports.

Johnson’s Greeneville, Tenn., based Pro Stock category drag race team will be presented “Team of the Year” honors by the Tennessee Hall of Fame for representing their state with excellence and a distinct Tennessee flavor in winning a career best seven national titles and the NHRA World Championship title. Johnson’s team will be recognized as honorees during the Hall of Fame’s annual banquet on May 4 at the Renaissance Hotel Nashville. Part of an ceremony also will be celebrate the induction of a great class that includes basketball coach Rick Byrd, basketball player Penny Hardaway, and country music’s Vince Gill.
