DANIEL WILKERSON RUNS CAREER BEST FRIDAY AT CHARLOTTE NHRA FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – Daniel Wilkerson handled his SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car to a career best pass during Friday qualifying at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

Wilkerson, who is racing the full NHRA season for the first time in his career, laid down a 3.918-second pass at 333.16 mph in the first qualifying session Friday afternoon to end the night in the No. 6 qualifying spot. Wilkerson, who is a Rookie of the Year Award contender, previously ran a 3.927 seconds at the Gatornationals and 328.06 mph at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals.

“I was a little surprised. I could tell it ran good. That’s a pretty great run. I’m super proud of my dad, Tim, and the rest of this SCAG Ford team,” Wilkerson said. “We made some pretty big changes, pretty big swings so I’m excited that it ran good.” Continue reading

DANIEL WILKERSON AND SCAG FORD FUNNY CAR TEAM LOOKING TO TURN THINGS AROUND AT CHARLOTTE FOUR-WIDE

CONCORD, NC – Daniel Wilkerson and his SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car team are looking to make a jump in the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series points standings with a strong performance at this weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

Wilkerson and the SCAG team, led by Daniel’s father and veteran racer, Tim, have qualified in the top half of the field for three consecutive races including their best effort of sixth at the most recent Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas. Despite their qualifying efforts, race day win lights have been scarce. The SCAG Funny Car has one quarterfinal finish and is coming off a first quad loss at Las Vegas.

“I think we’re all anxious to get back to the race track. We did not leave The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway the way we wanted to. That first round loss, it’s not a reflection of how hard this SCAG Ford Mustang team is working and the progress we’ve made. I’ll be looking forward to a bit of redemption this weekend,” Wilkerson said. “It’s another four-wide, the last one of the season, so we’ll want to leave our mark. We have a finish line photo hanging up in our shop of my dad in the Charlotte finals about five years ago. He is about a car and half in front of the other three guys, we have used that for motivation all week.” Continue reading

DANIEL WILKERSON AND SCAG FORD FUNNY CAR TEAM FOCUSED ON LAS VEGAS FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

LAS VEGAS – Daniel Wilkerson and the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car team can’t deny the progress they’ve made just three races into the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series season. They head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals determined to keep it going.

Wilkerson and the SCAG team, led by Daniel’s father, Tim, are coming of a quarterfinal finish at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where they qualified in the top half of the field for the second consecutive time. Sitting 10th in the points standings, Wilkerson is looking for his first Funny Car victory in his first season racing the full NHRA Mission Foods Series schedule.

“I’m excited to get to Vegas. Coming off a weekend in Phoenix where we learned a lot and made progress, I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the SCAG Summit Ford Mustang,” Wilkerson said. “Four-wide is a little different. I have pretty limited experience racing in the four-wide format, but I think, as long as nothing crazy happens, I should be fine. We get four qualifying runs, which will help our progress continue so we can turn on a few more win lights on Sunday.” Continue reading

DANIEL WILKERSON TAKING ON FIREBIRD MOTORSPORTS PARK FOR FIRST TIME

CHANDLER, AZ – Behind the wheel of his SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car, Daniel Wilkerson will make his first pass as a driver down Firebird Motorsports Park at this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals, the third of 20 events on the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series season schedule.

Despite not having driven Firebird Motorsports Park, formerly Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, as a crew chief, Wilkerson led Chad Green to a No.5 qualifying position and ultimately a semifinal finish at the Arizona Nationals in 2023. He’s also watched his father and now crew chief of the SCAG Ford Funny Car, Tim, navigate the track wearing the hat of both crew chief and driver on numerous occasions.

“It’s cool to be coming back to Arizona. You know last year they said it was going to be the final event, the ‘final pass’ so I’m happy that circumstances changed, and a new opportunity came up that allows us to be racing back at the facility,” Wilkerson said. “I’m excited to get my first lap in on Friday. I’ve been to Phoenix plenty, I know the track, but I’ve never driven it.”

DANIEL WILKERSON AND SCAG FORD FUNNY CAR TEAM EAGER FOR NHRA WINTERNATIONALS

POMONA, CA – Daniel Wilkerson and the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny car team enter this weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip looking to build on the performance they found at Gainesville Raceway.

Wilkerson and his SCAG Ford team, led by crew chief and father Tim, are coming off a solid showing at the Gatornationals. Daniel qualified No. 13 and despite losing in the first round to reigning world champion Matt Hagan, his 3.927-second pass at 317.12 mph would be the third quickest of the round.

Daniel, who is competing in his first full-time NHRA season behind the wheel, is looking for his first career Funny Car victory as a driver. If it were to come this weekend, he would be the first Wilkerson to win at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip as a driver. Tim reached the finals back in 1998 and in 2023 at the fall contested NHRA Finals, Tim came up short to Chad Green, whose crew chief was Daniel.

DANIEL WILKERSON TO DRIVE SCAG WILKERSON RACING FUNNY CAR

MAYVILLE, WI – Following the announcement of a SCAG Power Equipment multi-car factory team, SCAG Wilkerson Racing has announced that Daniel Wilkerson will be taking over the driving duties for the Ford Mustang Funny Car from his father, veteran driver and tuner, Tim Wilkerson.

After a 27-year career consisting of 24 wins, 20 No. 1 qualifiers, a best points finish of second in 2005 and 16 consecutive seasons finishing in the top 10, Tim Wilkerson will be retiring from driving duties creating an opportunity for his son Daniel to take the wheel.

“Putting Daniel in the seat is quite simply the right move for this team and for me. I love to drive, it’s why I’ve done it so long and I’ll miss it, but I’m more excited for Daniel to get this opportunity. We’ve both wanted this for a long time and SCAG has made it possible,” said Tim who will continue to operate as crew chief for SCAG Wilkerson Racing. “Daniel is a great fit for the program. He’s one of the few drivers I’ve put in the seat that can tell me what happened on the run in detail, that’s important. And he’ll be a great ambassador for SCAG and our partners. That’s what’s really important moving forward.”

Tim Wilkerson Races to Father-Son Funny Car Final Round at NHRA Finals

POMONA, CA – Tim Wilkerson wrapped up the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season just one win light short of a victory at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, and it was a car tuned by his own son, Daniel Wilkerson, who stopped him in the final round Sunday afternoon. Wilkerson’s SCAG Power Equipment/Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford Mustang made a quicker pass than Chad Green’s Mustang, but Green got to the finish line first thanks to a holeshot advantage. It was the fourth final round of the season for Wilkerson and the Maynard Wilkerson Racing team.

Wilkerson missed the tune-up in the first qualifying session at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip before improving to a 4.148-second pass in the second session, but it still wasn’t where Wilkerson wanted to end Friday qualifying. The driver-tuner found what he was looking for in the third session, posting a 3.955 E.T. to move up to the middle of the pack. He stepped up again to a 3.928 E.T. in the final session to end up No. 10 in a nearly all-three-second field.

In the opening round of eliminations against outgoing world champion Ron Capps, Wilkerson posted a 3.978-second pass to beat his tire-smoking competitor. He lined the SCAG machine up against Funny Car icon John Force in the second round, where Force got the starting-line advantage, but Wilkerson made up the difference down-track and won with a 3.956 E.T. over Force’s 4.003 E.T. Wilkerson was first off the starting line in the semifinals against Cruz Pedregon and held the lead through the 1,000-foot finish line to win with a 3.92-second pass to Pedregon’s 3.953 E.T.

Round One Explosion Ends Tim Wilkerson’s Day at Nevada Nationals

LAS VAGAS – Tim Wilkerson’s weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway ended in spectacular fashion on Sunday morning when he suffered a massive explosion during round one of eliminations. At the second-to-last event of the 2023 NHRA season, Wilkerson used a 3.907-second pass, the second-quickest run of Saturday’s first session, to qualify the SCAG Power Equipment/Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford Mustang ninth on the NHRA Nevada Nationals Funny Car eliminations ladder.

Wilkerson went into race day armed with confidence after recording three solid runs during qualifying and faced No. 8 qualifier Alexis DeJoria for the second consecutive race weekend.

At the NHRA Fall Nationals near Dallas two weeks prior, Wilkerson defeated DeJoria in the first round and went on to advance to the semifinals aboard the Maynard Wilkerson Racing entry. The two-time winner in 2023 was looking to extend his round-win lead over DeJoria on Sunday in Las Vegas. Wilkerson moved first to capture the early lead but near the 500-foot mark, his machine started to lose traction before suffering an engine explosion which sent his burst panel airborne while DeJoria made a full pull in the opposite lane for the win.

Tim Wilkerson Records Season-Best E.T. En Route to Semifinal Finish at Dallas

ENNIS, TX – Tim Wilkerson may have lost his semifinal match with Matt Hagan at the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, but a season-best elapsed time in Sunday eliminations gave the driver/tuner of the SCAG Power Equipment/Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford Mustang a confidence boost. Knowing he has a Maynard Wilkerson Racing hot rod that can consistently run in the 3.80-second range, Wilkerson is already looking forward to the next race as the 2023 NHRA Camping World Series season starts to wrap up.

In qualifying, Wilkerson started the weekend with a strong baseline run in Friday’s first session before laying down a 3.884-second pass at 317.80 MPH to go into Saturday as the provisional No. 7 qualifier. He had to lift off the throttle in the third session on Saturday, but came back in the final session and recorded a 3.879 E.T. to qualify No. 9 in a nearly all-3-second field.

Wilkerson was one half of NHRA’s Funny Car marquee matchup with Alexis DeJoria. It was a nailbiter, as Wilkerson had the starting line advantage while DeJoria had traction issues, but Wilkerson encountered his own issues late in the run. He held on to get the win, but lost lane choice to Bob Tasca III in the second round. That didn’t matter, though, since Wilkerson used a season-best 3.866-second performance to power past Tasca and his 3.921 E.T. Wilkerson’s SCAG Power Equipment entry slowed a bit in the semifinals, dropping a side-by-side race with Matt Hagan.

Tim Wilkerson Misses Out on Illinois Sweep with Early Loss at NHRA Midwest Nationals

Madison, IL – NHRA Funny Car veteran Tim Wilkerson was aiming for a second win in his home state of Illinois this season at the NHRA Midwest Nationals but fell short of his goal on race day. Wilkerson has had previous success at World Wide Technology Raceway, the home track for the Maynard Wilkerson Racing SCAG Power Equipment/Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford Mustang Funny Car team, including two runner-up finishes and a 2008 event win.

Wilkerson, who won the event in Joliet, Ill. near Chicago earlier this year, started the weekend off with a strong pass in the opening qualifying session when he posted a run of 3.982 seconds at 321.04-MPH on Friday night. He followed that on Saturday with a qualifying effort of 4.017 seconds at 317.27, which held up to be the best E.T. of the session, earning him three bonus points in the process. When qualifying concluded, the team was in the 10th position and matched with fellow championship contender Ron Capps in the first round.

In eliminations, Wilkerson was looking for a win light versus Capps, but his opponent’s quicker reaction time enabled him to cross the finish line beams first, with Capps’ 3.998 E.T. defeating Wilkerson’s quicker 3.977-second run.
