“In honor of the 40th anniversary, Summit Motorsports Park will unveil a never-before-seen show,” said Bill Bader, Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park. “There will be new talent, a new $125,000 fireworks show, a new theatrical light show and new special effects.”
Connelley Cruises to Ultra Street Record at Summit Motorsports Park
Martin Connelley’s successful race season started as soon as he climbed into Jason Martin’s ’93 Mustang motivated
by a BES-built big-block Ford on nitrous and drove to a 7.77 and a runner-up finish in Edelbrock Xtreme Street at the 14th Annual Ross Racing Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem in Florida in March.
While he went on to earn a third place finish in points in the category when the series wrapped in August, he wasn’t ready to hang up his helmet.
He proved that by powering Eddie McCarty’s ’86 Mustang to a 5.04 to qualify third in Team Z Motorsports Ultra Street at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels, Sept. 16-18, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Then, he trapped an incredible 4.99 in the second round of eliminations to become the first driver with an 8.2 deck nitrous-fed engine to dip into the 4s in the ultra-competitive Ultra Street.
Pevlor Sets Record and Wins at Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit
While he’s been crossing the country to compete in Ultra Street, Ultra 275, Nitrous X and MX235 and racking up
wins along the way, Shawn Pevlor of Cincinnati, Ohio had his sights set on sailing in Team Z Motorsports Ultra Street at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Sept. 16-18, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park.
He did just that by motivating his Mustang to an incredible 4.763 and 148 mph in qualifying to ceremoniously set the elapsed-time record for the category, which multi-time champion Butch Kemp of Romeo, Michigan had held since March with a 4.773. Then, he went on to win the race with a 4.78 and 147 mph.
Showdown at Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit
While rain was nonstop for the first half of the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by
Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, action was nonstop for the second half of the event Sept. 16-18, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
At stake was a $150,500 purse, including $40,000 to win in ProLine Outlaw Pro Mod, which is the largest purse ever paid in Summit Motorsports Park history.
As the event’s quickest and fastest category contested on the quarter-mile, ProLine Outlaw Pro Mod featured cars with superchargers, turbos and nitrous and ten out of 27 of them clicked it in the high fives in qualifying. Don Walsh, Jr. drove the loud and proud Skinny Kid Race Cars ’72 Olds to a 5.85 to lead the pack, but the final round featured Flash Fiscus and his ’12 Mustang and Melanie Salemi and her ’68 Firebird. Fiscus flew to a 5.97 to find victory over Salemi, who ran into trouble and lifted to a 12.22. While Fiscus was photographed with the $40,000 check in the winner’s circle, his proud parents were later spotted posing for a photo with it, too.
Harringtons See Personal Best at Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit
While Michigan-based brothers Jeff and Chris Harrington share the driver’s seat of their ’92 Mustang, Jeff is behind
the wheel of the blue beast for battle at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, which began Sept. 16 and runs through Sept. 18, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park.
He’s entered In Precision Turbo & Engine Outlaw 10.5, and in early qualifying, he blasted to a 4.20 and 189 mph followed by a 4.16 and 183 mph, and is currently qualified fifth out of a field of 15 going into late qualifying.
That elapsed-time as well as that mph are personal bests, as Harrington had previously been 4.19 and 187 mph with his combination consisting of a turbocharged small-block Ford which sips alcohol and rolls on a Team Z Motorsports-tuned chassis.
Tom Kempf Sets Sights on $10,000 Payday at Shakedown at the Summit
After driving to an incredible 4.09 and 188 mph in the eighth-mile in Outlaw 10.5 competition last year, Tom Kempf
decided to make some changes to his ’02 Firehawk to help it clock even quicker and faster times.
He started by delivering the car to Skinny Kid Race Cars, where its bolt-in factory-style suspension was replaced with strut-style suspension, and by turning his 454 cubic-inch LS bullet on a billet Dart block over to Billy Briggs, who freshened it with a new set of Gibtech pistons, BME rods and a Callies crank before placing the Craig Thibeau-prepped Mast Motorsports canted-valve Mozez heads and sheetmetal intake back on top.
Kempf then replaced the 88mm turbos he had been running with a set of 91mm Precision turbos on loan from fellow racer Nick Agostino to maximize his engine combination, and relied on Rodney Massengale of RPM Transmissions to set his Turbo 400 up with a new dump valve system and massage it to complement his ProTorque converter.

The Lakewood Pro final put the spotlight on Jaeden Durst of Fostoria, Ohio, who dipped under his dial-in in his ’84 S-10 with an 11.24 on an 11.27, but pulled off a win over A.J.
