Pevlor Sets Record and Wins at Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit

While he’s been crossing the country to compete in Ultra Street, Ultra 275, Nitrous X and MX235 and racking up Shawn Pevlorwins along the way, Shawn Pevlor of Cincinnati, Ohio had his sights set on sailing in Team Z Motorsports Ultra Street at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Sept. 16-18, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park.

He did just that by motivating his Mustang to an incredible 4.763 and 148 mph in qualifying to ceremoniously set the elapsed-time record for the category, which multi-time champion Butch Kemp of Romeo, Michigan had held since March with a 4.773. Then, he went on to win the race with a 4.78 and 147 mph.

The powerful powerplant helping Pevlor claim the record consists of a BES-built 439 cubic-inch small-block Ford topped with Trick Flow High Port heads and a Book Racing carburetor sipping a VP Racing Fuels concoction. Added kick comes from a Kevin Neal/Nitrous Express nitrous system, and Pevlor relies on an NLR AMS 2000 nitrous controller. An RPM Transmissions-built Turbo 400 and Bradco converter help the car, which rolls on shocks and struts massaged by Menscer Motorsports, plant all of the power to the pavement. For the event, Pevlor weighed in at 2925 pounds, which is a hundred pounds heavier than usual.

“Shawn Pevlor and Jason Waterman are very deserving,” said former Ultra Street record holder Kemp. “They keep their noses to the grindstone and make progress every race.”
