NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Postponed Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

ProMedia Events and Publishing, parent company of the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals and NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, in association with Atlanta Dragway’s parent company NHRA, have decided to postpone the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals in response to growing restrictions on group gatherings and travel due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Effective today the NHRA has suspended all drag racing operations for 30 days at NHRA-owned facilities and events. The NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals is hosted by an NHRA-owned facility.

“We’re disappointed but fully support NHRA officials in their decision while agreeing with the local, state, and federal guidelines regarding large group gatherings,” said Steve Wolcott, CEO and founder of ProMedia Events and Publishing. “The COVID-19 pandemic has gripped our nation and disrupted everyday life but we are excited to continue the 2020 racing season for both sanctioning bodies in May. Our next two events are in St. Louis with the first one scheduled after the CDC’s eight week recommended restrictions for the pandemic and we are confident the crisis will work itself out by then.”

The Holley NMRA Ford Nationals returns May 14-16 and NMCA jumps back to action May 28-31 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison Illinois.

At the time of this writing a new date has not been made for the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals due to the quickly evolving Coronavirus pandemic. NMRA/NMCA racing officials are working diligently with the Atlanta Dragway staff to determine an appropriate date that fits both group’s schedules and one that will be convenient for the racers, fans, and sponsors.

Race Wrap — 18th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Holbrook Racing Engines | Coverage by Edelbrock

Santa Ana, CA – Wondrous weather, powerful passes, and close competition made up the 18th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Holbrook Racing Engines, March 5-8 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.

Excitement escalated as the weekend went on, and when it was all said and done, records were set and the winners of the series’ season opener in the Sunshine State celebrated in the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle.

In VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod, the majority of drivers dished out 3.60s and 3.70s in qualifying, but Eric Gustafson outgunned the group with a 3.67 in his PTP-tuned Coast Packing Camaro to set the pace. The Californian cruised all the way to the final, where he clocked a 3.68 to win over Andrew Handras, who went into a wheelie and was forced to lift to a 4.09 in his Camaro.

Mustang Cobra Jets, COPO Camaros, and Challenger Drag Paks took center stage in Holley EFI Factory Super Cars, and Chris Holbrook’s Mustang Cobra Jet led qualifying with a 7.66. Showing no signs of stopping, the Michigan resident, who owns Holbrook Racing Engines, made it to the final, where he lit the board with a 7.70 to win over Bill Skillman, who was 7.73 in his Mustang Cobra Jet.

Norwalk, OH – Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, was named Racetrack of the Year during the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals presented by E3 Spark Plugs Awards Ceremony presented by Aerospace Components on Dec. 13 at the Indiana Convention Center.

Holley Named Series Sponsor of NMRA Ford Nationals

Santa Ana, CA – NMRA is proud to announce Holley Performance Products as the title sponsor of the world’s biggest all-Ford motorsport event series. The six-event series, which includes drag racing, car show, manufacturer’s midway, and other specialty elements will be known as the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals. It’s the second time in the sanctioning body’s 22-year history that Holley has staked a claim as the series title sponsor.

“The partnership between NMRA and Holley is amazing as we created an incredible synergy between us with the NMRA World Finals + Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival in 2019,” said Steve Wolcott, founder and president of NMRA. “With Holley coming on as the title sponsor we can build momentum at each stop on the tour as all roads will lead to Bowling Green for the biggest and craziest Ford event ever created.”

Holley’s marketing director Bill Tichenor is the driving force behind the uniquely fun Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival and also for blending it with the NMRA World Finals. He said “The timing couldn’t be better for Holley to become the title sponsor of the NMRA as we continue to focus on making exiting new parts for Fords.” Tichenor also noted “The inaugural NMRA World Finals + Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival couldn’t have went better, so to be the title sponsor all year with it culminating at one massive event at the end the year just makes total sense.”

Race Wrap for the 18th Annual NMCA World Street Finals

Santa Ana, CA – The 18th Annual NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance, which was hosted at Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis September 19-22, 2019 marked the end of a successful season of NMCA Drag Racing presented by E3 Spark Plugs, and culminated in the crowning of class champions who had worked the hardest all year and found their place in the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle.

Framed by the legendary Dave Duell Classic, Nostalgia Super Stock All-Star Shootout, and the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series, the NMCA World Street Finals did not disappoint, and one only had to look at the VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod qualifying sheet to see just how tight the racing could be.

Twenty-two cars attempted to qualify for the 16-car field, and the top spot changed every round. John Stanley put his blown Cadillac CTSV above all else with a 3.725, and the entire field was separated by less than a tenth of a second making it the quickest field since the inception of the Xtreme Pro Mod format. Stanley struck the tires in round one, allowing number 16 qualifier Stephan Stringer to advance. In the final round, Stringer drilled the tree and took the holeshot win with a 3.80 at 196 to Jim Widener’s nitrous-backfiring 3.78 run.

American Muscle Abounds at NMCA Norwalk

Santa Ana, CA – The weather was wonderful and the competition was compelling at the 18th Annual NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Whipple Superchargers, Aug. 22-25 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

“It was an absolutely gorgeous weekend to showcase some of the fastest cars in North America, and I’m not sure how it could have been any better,” said Summit Motorsports Park president Bill Bader Jr.

In addition to the series’ regularly contested categories, the race located two hours from Detroit, the birthplace of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, featured the Chevrolet Performance 50th Anniversary COPO Camaro Shootout presented by COPO Parts Direct, and the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Watson Racing. Two Times the Talent at Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing

Santa Ana, CA – NMCA and NMRA drivers teamed up to put down twice as much power in the Prairie State for the 14th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing presented by FST Carburetors, July 25-28 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.

With their sights set on the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle and season championship points at this fourth of six events on this year’s tour, drivers in the potent VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod category pulled to the lanes. In qualifying, they were led by Don Walsh Jr., who wheeled to a 3.74 in his Corvette, and several rounds later, Walsh Jr. pulled off another win with a 3.72 over Randy Adler, who was not far behind with a 3.77 in his Bel Air.

NMCA Mickey Thompson Street Outlaw and NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw merged to make even more muscle at this event, and Dom DiDonato drove to a 4.46 to lead qualifying in his Mustang. The final round, however, belonged to Shane Fisher and Shawn Pevlor and their Mustangs. A Mad Amount of Muscle and Hustle at NMCA Memphis Event | Coverage by Edelbrock

Memphis, TN – While the forecast wasn’t favorable, racers still rolled into the Inaugural Comp Cams NMCA Memphis Homecoming, May 2-5 at Memphis International Raceway in Tennessee to vie for valuable championship points and the Victor trophies awaiting them in the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle.

In VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, where the cars tend to be unruly and unpredictable, Don Walsh Jr. wheeled his Corvette to a 3.70 to set the pace, and later motored to a final-round fight against John Stanley and his Cadillac CTS-V. Walsh’s Corvette made a move toward the center line and he brought it back, but Stanley sailed to a 3.79 to take the win over Walsh’s close 3.81. The feat marked Stanley’s first win in the highly competitive category.

Rob Goss ran to a 4.30 in his Challenger to lead qualifying in NMCA Mickey Thompson Street Outlaw, but it was Shawn Pevlor and Mike Cerminaro who made it to the final. Pevlor picked up the win in his Mustang, which belongs to Tony Bischoff, with a 4.40 while Cerminaro wasn’t able to complete his pass.
