HART, BURKART LEAD LUCAS OIL WINNERS IN ATCO

ATCO, NJ – Josh Hart and Phil Burkart raced to victory at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway in Atco, N.J.   Former NHRA Lucas Oil World Champions Frank Aragona, Joseph Santangelo and Dan Northrop also posted wins this weekend.

Hart extended his win streak to three as the Ocala, Fla., racer knocked out Dan Page, Hampstead, N.H., in the final of Top Alcohol Dragster. Hart qualified No. 1 then ripped off a 5.244 second lap at 272.83 mph to Page who qualified No. 2 but slowed to a 7.530, 112.79 in the final.  Hart won at both Lebanon Valley Dragway and at New England Dragway last month.

Burkart, Yorkville, N.Y., also qualified No. 1 and was out first on Aryan Rochon, extending his lead throughout the quarter-mile to take the win in 5.773 seconds at 239.78 mph to Rochon who tripped the clocks at 6.363, 247.75.  This is Burkart’s second Top Alcohol Funny Car win in three final rounds having won in Epping, N.H., and reaching the finals in Reading, Pa., at Maple Grove Raceway.

Parker, Payne, & Hyerstay Crowned at Northwest Nationals

KENT, WA – Kim Parker, Jay Payne, and Bryan Hyerstay all celebrated in the winner’s circle with their teams following their final round victories at the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash.

Local Top Alcohol Dragster runner, Parker of Graham, squared off against Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., in the final round. The Defending Lucas Oil Champion, Severance came out of the gate hot but let off the throttle as he experienced mechanical issues. Parker overtook Severance, to take home her first National Event Wally, hitting 5.748 seconds, 246.48 mph.

Mickey Thompson Tires Power Four NHRA Winners in Sonoma

Stow, OH – Mickey Thompson Tires and Wheels took the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals by storm, helping power four class winners at Sonoma Raceway.

LE Tonglet (Pro Stock Motorcycle) Val Torres Jr. (Super Comp), Chris Borges (Super Street) and Paul Nero (Top Dragster) all rode Mickey Thompson tires to winning times Sunday, July 30.

Tonglet, who also won the Mickey Thompson Pro Bike Battle, races on M/T 27.0/10.0-16M (Part# 3159M). Top Dragster champion Nero relies on M/T 35.0/15.0-16 ET Drag (Part# 3196). Super Comp winner Torres Jr. competes on M/T 35.0/15.0-16 ET Drag (Part# 3195 and Super Street champion Borges races on M/T 33.0/16.5-15S ET Drag (Part# 3084S).

NATIONAL TRAIL RACEWAY TO HOST BUCKEYE FUEL WARS

HEBRON, OH – National Trail Raceway hosts the Buckeye Fuel Wars on August 4- 6. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway are $20 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and children 5 and under are admitted free.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event.

Tickets for Atco Raceway are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 5-10 are $5 Friday, $10 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Children 4 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. FIRST TIME WINNERS CELEBRATE IN WINNERS CIRCLE

SONOMA, CA – In the final results from Sonoma Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Brain McClanahan, Evan Kowalski, Chris Borges and Bart Smith each scored their first NHRA national event win at the 30th Annual Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals.

McClanahan, Alta Loma, Calif., got the early lead on Dwayne Scheitlin in Stock Eliminator and nearly gave it up as Scheitlin ran 10.116 on the 10.11 dial.  McClanahan held on for the win powering his ’69 Camaro to a 9.871 second lap at 129.54 mph.

Kowalski also used a starting line advantage to pick up his first NHRA Wally trophy at the national level.  The Riverside, Calif., racer was out first by .051 seconds and ran 9.941, 160.14 for win in his ’05 Corvette again Chris Cannon in Super Gas.  Cannon closed the gap at the line running 9.903 on the 9.90 index coming up about 3 feet short.

GALBRAITH WINS, BARKER DOUBLES UP

TOPEKA, KS – Troy Galbraith and Jeffrey Barker both found themselves in the winner’s circle at the NHRA West Central Region Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Heartland Park Topeka Sunday evening.

Midwest runner Galbraith of Indianapolis, Ind., faced off with southeast standout David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala., in the Comp Eliminator final round. Galbraith pulled off the upset and sent Rampy back to Alabama without the Wally trophy. Galbraith completed a victory pass of 6.783 seconds, 184.95 mph.

Event champion from the first half of the double header, Jeffrey Barker, Kathleen, Ga., had no plans of slowing down as he made it to the final round of the Top Sportsman presented by Jerry Haas Race Cars final round. Opposing him was Terry Pope, Blair, Neb. Barker scored his second event Wally, tripping a great reaction time of .006 seconds, finishing up at 6.671 seconds, 205.10 mph.

MEYER, LOMBARDO WIN IN HEARTLAND

TOPEKA, KS – Megan Meyer and John Lombardo Jr. raced to victory at the NHRA Central Region Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Heartland Park Topeka Saturday night.

Second generation Meyer of Spring Hill, Kan., faced off with veteran racer and former NHRA Divisional Champion Marty Thacker with Thacker taking the early lead but Meyer had the power from crew chief and father Randy to run him down.  Meyer posted low elapsed time of the event at 5.303 seconds with a speed of 274.66 to Thacker’s 5.424, at 265.90.

Meyer qualified third in the 8-car field and knocked out David Brounkowski and No. 2 qualifier Mike Edstrom in rounds one and two.  Thacker defeated No. 1 qualifier Rachel Meyer (Megan’s sister) in the opening round, then beat Robin Samsel on a hole-shot in round two to reach the final.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES – WEST CENTRAL DIVISION

TOPEKA, KS- The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is in town this weekend for it’s double header at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kan. Chad Voges, Jeff Strickland, and J.R. Baxter celebrated with their teams in the winner circle Friday night following their final round victories, ending the first half of the double header.

Voges, racing out of St. Peters, Mo., lined up against former Lucas Oil World Champion and current NHRA host on FOX, Bruno Massel, Elmhurst, Ill. Massel cut the better light but Voges was able to chase him down for the competitive victory in the Comp Eliminator final round; posting a winning run of 7.601 seconds, 162.27 mph. Bruno Massel came in a close second at 6.950 seconds, 197.91 mph.

In the Stock Eliminator final round both drivers were quick on their launch, however defending World Champion Strickland hailing from Red Bay, Ala., tripped a perfect light, running 9.943 seconds, 111.53 mph. Tim Ames, League City, Texas, fouled all the line ensuring Strickland’s victory.

DRIVERS FROM TEAM BODDIE RACING TO PARTICIPATE IN 16-CAR EXHIBITION AT 30TH ANNUAL TOYOTA NHRA SONOMA NATIONALS

SONOMA, CA – NHRA officials announced today that drivers from Team Boddie Racing, from the San Francisco area , will participate in a special 16-car exhibition race on Saturday, July 29 as part of the 30th annual Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

The field will be comprised of eight of the finest big tire cars and eight small tire cars. The racers will get one time trial on Friday and eliminations will begin on Saturday. Before the first round of competition the racers will do a special call-out to assert their dominance before the start of racing.
