Families win Championships at Ronnie Hobbs World Finals

Tulsa, OK – The Ronnie Hobbs World Finals at The Double Down in T-Town did not disappoint despite a waterlogged Saturday. Fans from across the midwest flocked to Tulsa Raceway Park and Tulsa Speedway to watch the first-ever Double Down, merging ASCS 360 Wing Sprints and Drag Racing into one event with action sprawling over the entire complex.

The 2025 champions tell the story of family and teamwork, as Aaron Wells and Tyler Wells would bring home the Stroud Safety Pro Mod and Compressed Air Supercharging Top Sportsman Championships for Wells Motorsports. Pennington Motorsports would complete the first ever “trifecta” as they would bring home Race Star Wheels Top Dragster, Zimmerman Sportsman Junior Dragster, and Race Star Wheels Pro Junior Dragster with Keith Youngblood, Jovee Brundidge, and Karlee Brundidge respectively. Dave Pierce would be the only driver not on the Wells or Pennington crew to win a 2025 championship, grabbing his 3rd consecutive Pro 4.20 championship.

On Friday, the Ronnie Hobbs Memorial $10,000 Shootout was fielded by the top 8 qualifiers after 2 rounds of qualifying, leading to a stout field of pro mods including Bob Glenn, Kallee Mills, Aaron Wells, Keith Haney, Shawn Ellington, Billy Banaka, Tommy Cunningham, and Rian Hayward. After rain delayed the final round of qualifying until Saturday afternoon, the field would finalize itself and the final round of the shootout would feature 2 big names in the world of drag racing, Kallee Mills vs. Shawn Ellington. For the $10,000 paycheck and the amazing Kenzie Pierce-made trophy, it would be the 187 Customs crew who would pull off the shootout victory in front of packed stands at TRP. Continue reading

First-Time Winners Shine as Robin Roberts Captures Hometown Pro Mod Victory at MWDRS Smack Down

Odessa, MO – An exciting weekend at Flying H Drag Strip gave the MWDRS first time winners, new champions, and more! The Mid-West Drag Racing Series came into the penultimate race of the season with close fights in Pro Mod, Pro 4.20, Funny Car, Top Dragster, and a possible clinching scenario in Top Sportsman.

Stroud Safety Pro Modified presented by Larry Jeffers Race Cars gave Robin Roberts his first ever Pro Mod win in front of his home town crowd at Flying H. Roberts looked great from Q1 to E4 as he found himself ahead of the field and the only driver in the 3.50’s when opening ceremonies came around. Roberts alongside his wife Melody and crew Allan, Tara, and Brian, were ecstatic to have their first win in front of a stout field.

Keith Haney would earn runner up honors after beating Kallee Mills in the semis, and Jacob McNeal would go out in the semis as well. A round 2 matchup between McNeal and Wells had major championship implications when Aaron Wells couldn’t fire to run alongside McNeal. Ryan Griffin took the upset of the evening in his MWDRS Debut in his beautiful Twin Turbo Mustang, beating Shawn Ellington in the first round via red light. Continue reading

Summit Racing MWDRS – Shakedown In M-Town Historic Event

Martin, MI – There are historic names when it comes to events in drag racing, and then there are those events that become generational. It just so happens that the Mid-West Drag Racing Series was part of one of those generational events over the weekend.

More than 20 years ago a New York based promoter named Dave Hance concocted an idea of gathering the best of the best in drag racing and named it the Shakedown at Etown. What some many not realize is that the one and only Ellen Eschenbacher was heavily involved with the event in the early years. So it’s only fitting that the series she is such an integral part of ended up as part of the new Shakedown.

Michigan in May was never the plan for the MWDRS, in fact, Ohio was the original plan, but as they say…plans change. That is exactly what happened when it was announced that Shakedown would be contested on the same weekend of a Mid-West event, yet at a much different facility. Continue reading

Tulsa, OK – The Mid-West Drag Racing Series is proud to announce that John Sears has been named Rules Director for the 2025 season and beyond.

We want to thank Lonnie for his support and guidance, since Day One, with the series and look forward to seeing him at races across the country.” – Keith Haney

John oversees rule sets with classes and events very similar to the Mid-West Drag Racing Series. John has been in the game for very long time and has a great history for fair and balanced pairings across multiple classes.

John’s first order of business is to review our current rule set and begin to create a more simplified package from a new perspective. This will include removing unnecessary combos that no longer run the series and implementing changes that could be used by racers from across the country. “With his work at other events and series, we feel that John will create a balanced and fair package for racers” – Keith Haney Continue reading
