PSM NEWCOMER BRAYDEN DAVIS LOOKS TO KEEP ROLLING AT AMERICAN REBEL LIGHT VIRGINIA NHRA NATIONALS
DINWIDDIE, VA – It was nearly a perfect weekend for Brayden Davis in just his second career start in the Pro Stock Motorcycle ranks two weeks ago in Bristol. The
only thing missing – an event win – is something he’d love to take care of in his third career NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series event, this weekend’s fifth annual American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.
Riding the rental bike for the powerhouse Vance & Hines team, Davis made a strong impression in Bristol, taking the No. 1 qualifier with a terrific series of runs and then advancing to the semifinals.
His arrival on the Pro Stock Motorcycle scene was sudden, but it was definitely impactful and Davis hopes to continue that run of success this weekend in Richmond.
“When I joined the team, I knew I was going to have a good-running motorcycle and it was going to be up to me on how well I can ride,” Davis said. “The more passes I get, the more confident and comfortable I was able to get. Andrew (Hines, crew chief) and I have been working together really well. The guys on this team, they are definitely top-notch and the more data we get, the more dangerous we’ll be.” Continue reading
FUNNY CAR VETERAN RON CAPPS RETURNS TO RICHMOND WITH MOMENTUM ON HIS SIDE
DINWIDDIE, VA – Three-time Funny Car champion Ron Capps snapped a 33-race winless streak when he won two weeks ago in Bristol.
Capps and the rest of the stars of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series return to racing this weekend at the fifth annual American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park for another weekend of action-packed racing.
Capps wheeled his 12,000-horsepower NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra Funny Car to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2023 two weeks ago in Bristol, providing a much-needed boost to the team. Capps hopes the win the carry some momentum into Richmond as the summer heats up for NHRA teams.
The stop in Richmond is the third event in a busy four-race June, meaning Capps could be rolling at an ideal time in the loaded Funny Car ranks.
“Coming off a win like we did at Bristol where we saw conditions change so rapidly, it always goes back to me bragging about the NAPA team with (crew chief) Dean “Guido” Antonelli and being able to adapt quickly,” Capps said. Continue reading
TOP FUEL’S TORRENCE EYES CONSISTENCY, HOT STREAK AT AMERICAN REBEL LIGHT VIRGINIA NHRA NATIONALS
DINWIDDIE, VA – Steve Torrence and his Top Fuel team showcased championship potential just more than a week ago in Bristol, as the
four-time world champion picked up his first win in nearly a year.
Heading into this weekend’s fifth annual American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, Torrence would like to think it’s the start of a strong run that was on display when he won four straight world titles from 2018-2021.
Consistency in the world of 12,000-horsepower, 330-plus mph Top Fuel dragsters is always a difficult matter, but Torrence hopes his team has regained its championship touch in his Capco Contractors dragster. There’s previous success in Virginia – including back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019 – and the four-time champ is eager to keep pushing forward during a busy June, this time during a thrilling two-day race weekend at VMP.
“We’ve had a lot of success,” Torrence said. “You may take that for granted, but it does put it into perspective that this is much more difficult than what it seems from the outside, especially cars that are winning 4-5 races or more. It shows the hard work that goes into it, but you also need some breaks along the way. The last couple years the car has been inconsistent and I’ve been inconsistent as a driver. It seems like the weekends I was good, the car was not, and the weekend the car was good, I was not. It all has to come together.” Continue reading
