HITCHCOCK, SALEMI & BANAS WIN AGAIN AT LANCASTER DRAGWAY

Jewell & Astyk take Buffalo Street Outlaws victories 

LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Dragway kicked off the final month of the season for the Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing on Friday night with a jam packed program that included the Buffalo Street Outlaws.

Brian Hitchcock of Amherst, N.Y. earned his second win in a row in Top 8 Eliminator. Hitchcock ran his 5.18 dial-in in the final round as he defeated Wayne Cleveland for his third win overall in 2017. The loss denied Cleveland his third win of the year in Top 8.

In Mallare Enterprises Top ET, veteran Billy Leber of Tonawanda, N.Y. took the win aboard Joe Masullo’s rear engine dragster. Leber made a phenomenal pass in the finals as he had a near-perfect .501 reaction time and just missed his 4.99 dial-in with a 5.009 ET.

BIG RIG NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS AT LANCASTER NATIONAL DRAGWAY

LANCASTER, NY – It was a “truckin’” good night at Lancaster National Dragway on Friday for Big Rig Night presented by Mallare Enterprises. Over 200 cars and trucks filled the pits for the Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing program.

A total of 56 semi and dump trucks signed in to compete in special Big Right Night classes. Dennis Timm of Hamburg, N.Y. won the Dump Truck class in his 2017 Kenworth. Timm defeated Dave Peckham in the final round. Jim Mallare of Mallare Enterprises won the Semi-Truck category. Mallare faced Sean Lindsley in the final pairing.

In Top 8 Eliminator, Brian Hitchcock of Amherst, N.Y. scored his first win of the season. Hitchcock overcame the starting line advantage his opponent, Steve Harkiewicz, held to pick up the victory with a 5.234 ET at 128.19.

MALLARE END WINLESS STREAK IN TOP 8 AT LANCASTER

Show of sportsmanship leads to Szewczyk win in Top ET

LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Dragway finally got their first Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing event of August in the books on Friday night following two-straight weeks of rain outs.

The good weather came at the right time as Lancaster played host to the Hanna Motorsports Jet Funny Cars after their traditional Memorial Day weekend date was rained out. Both the First Strike and Top Secret Eastern Raider jet cars wowed the fans with passes of less than four seconds and speeds that topped over 200 mph.

In Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing action, Michael Mallare of Grand Island, N.Y. captured his first Top 8 win of the season. Dan Szewczyk of Lancaster took the win in Mallare Enterprises Top ET. In McGard Mod, Keith Banas of Tonawanda, N.Y. scored his first win of 2017. Both Hebeler’s Sales Bikes & Sleds and Tread City Tire Street had repeat winners as Vic Pgulia of Buffalo (Bikes & Sleds) and John Wachowicz of Sanborn, N.Y. (Street) won for the second event in a row.

LANCASTER CANCELS AUGUST 4 DRAG RACING PROGRAM

Forecasts call for late-day severe storms; Rest of Sunday Nostalgia Weekend still on as scheduled

LANCASTER, NY – With the potential for severe weather forecasted for Western New York later today, Lancaster National Dragway has decided to cancel its Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing program for August 4.

“All forecasts are calling for thunderstorms, severe at times, starting right about the time we’d be lining up to begin the racing events. Would rather play it safe, than soggy and sorry,” said Tim Packman, Track President.

MALVASO CONQUERS SUPERCHARGED BOUNTY HUNTERS FIELD AT LANCASTER

Noltee & Puglia earn first ever wins in their respective classes 

LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Dragway hosted the Supercharged Bounty Hunters on Friday night as part of the final Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing program for the month of July. It was the second visit of the season by the Bounty Hunters, and the results were almost the same as their first trip to Lancaster

The final pairing for the Supercharged Bounty Hunters was a rematch of the final round from their race at Lancaster on June 9 as Mike Zmuda in the “Time Bomb” Dodge Dart went head-to-head with the Willys of Rochester’s Frank Malvaso. Zmuda won in their first meeting on a holeshot advantage, but Malvaso got his revenge on Friday night.

Zmuda once again left the starting line first, but Malvaso was able to catch and pass him before the finish line to score the victory. Malvaso made up the nearly two-tenths of seconds that he lost at the starting line to beat Zmuda with an elapsed time of 4.439 seconds at 160.11 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT TWICE AS NICE FOR WAYNE CLEVELAND AT LANCASTER

Angelo Salemi wins “Family Fued” for $500 Bikes & Sleds pay day 

LANCASTER, NY – For the second season in a row Wayne Cleveland of Cheektowaga, N.Y. walked away from Lancaster National Dragway with two class wins in one night as he took top honors in both Top 8 Eliminator and Mallare Enterprises Top ET on Friday night.

In other Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing action, Angelo Salemi of Wheatfield, N.Y. won a $500-to-win special for Hebeler’s Sales Bikes & Sleds. Pete Maduri, Jr. won the TNT Hot Rod Series event. Ryan Ricketson of Delavan, N.Y. got the win in McGard Mod ET. Timothy Markle of Amherst, N.Y. was victorious in Tread City Tire Street ET.

Cleveland’s first win of the night came in Top 8 Eliminator as he held off Michael Mallare in the final round to score the victory. He was then inserted into the Mallare Enterprises Top ET bracket where he once again went to the final, this time to face Zell Gaymon. It wound up being a bye run for Cleveland as Gaymon failed to make a run to the 1/8-mile dragstrip.

TNT Super Series Rolls into Western New York for Double This Weekend

TG Fab Racecars kicks off mid-season swing!

NEW YORK – This weekend’s New York state double header kicks off three back to back weekends of Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series competition. They’ll be at Lancaster Dragway this Friday July 14 and then at Empire Dragway the next Saturday.

Presented by TG Fab Racecars, this weekend will see the country’s best sportsman drivers hit the drag strip in both 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile competition.  To be good, the teams will have to have both their 7.00 and 10.90 index set-ups figured out as they race for one of the best purses of any local drag racing series.

STEVE HARKIEWICZ GETS FIRST WIN AT LANCASTER

Eckert, Kerl, Vaughan, Kovach & Young grab wins

LANCASTER, NY – A mix of new faces and veterans visited victory lane on Friday night at Lancaster National Dragway on First Responders Night presented by 10-75 Emergency Lighting.

Headlining the class winners for the Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing program was Steve Harkiewicz of Pendleton, N.Y. who picked up his first win in Top 8 Eliminator. Harkiewicz defeated Michael Mallare in the final round.

Dale Eckert of S. Wales, N.Y. beat Jan Winkowski in finals of Mallare Enterprises Top ET. Eckert cut a .501 light and held off Winkowski at top end to pick up the victory.

MOE ALFAQIH WINS STREET OUTLAWS 405 VS. 716 ROUND 2 AT LANCASTER 

LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Dragway hosted a huge crowd for Street Outlaws 405 vs. 716 Round 2 featuring Kamikaze Chris from the Discovery Channel reality show “Street Outlaws on Friday night.

Moe Alfaqih of Cheektowaga, N.Y. not only topped the field of 26 Buffalo Street Outlaws, but he also defeated the “Elco” of Kamikaze Chris in special grudge race to give the 716 crew the win for the second year in a row. In the final round of the Buffalo Street Outlaws, Alfaqih defeated last year’s winner Ed McGuinn to claim the victory.

The Buffalo Street Outlaws debuted their new Unlimited Big Tire class, which included two-time Pro Modified World Champion Mike Janis among the competitors. Ron Szewczyk of Derby, N.Y. got the win in his “Head Knocker Chevrolet Nova over Mike Zmuda. Chris Halton of Amherst, N.Y. took top honors in BSO Street Limited over three-time winner Jason Bezinque.

Local Champion Mike Janis to be part of Lancaster’s Street Outlaw Event

Dominator forced to cancel appearance because of mechanical issues

LANCASTER, NY – On Wednesday night, Discovery Channel Street Outlaw driver Dominator (Joe Woods) was forced to cancel his Friday night appearance at Lancaster National Dragway because of mechanical issues.

A scramble by track management to fill the void found almost every other Street Outlaw driver from the show was booked or couldn’t attend. So, a call to WNY resident and two-time world champion drag racer synonymous with supercharged power, Mike Janis, was made and he will now be racing his famous Pro Mod as part of the show.
