MADISON, IL – John Force taught his three youngest daughters how to drive 10,000 horsepower race cars capable of zero-to-300 John Force - Dallasmile-an-hour acceleration in less than 4.00 seconds but, as the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship moves this week to Gateway Motorsports Park, the sport’s biggest winner admits that he recently had to apply the same lessons to himself.

“I was so busy teaching my kids that I forgot how to drive myself,” joked the 135-time tour winner who, after struggling with his starting line routine during last July’s three-race Western Swing, once again has muscled his way into title contention.

Entering this week’s 16th annual AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals (or, second, if one is to believe the NHRA’s math), Force finds himself just three rounds behind pacesetting Matt Hagan with four playoff races remaining.

That’s not too bad for a 64-year-old who admits that he’s had a bit of trouble adapting to a new race car in this, his 36th season on the NHRA tour.
